A eutanásia sob a ótica utilitarista de Peter Singer : uma análise em vista do profissional da saúde

Fachini, Mérlim 21 October 2013 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2014-09-26T14:17:59Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Merlim Fachini.pdf: 764493 bytes, checksum: f834eef01d0560d0b911795e293a006b (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-09-26T14:17:59Z (GMT). In this sense, we highlight the importance of the preparation of the healthcare professional to experience situations involving controversial issues such as euthanasia. It is believed that these professionals also support their choices and actions in knowledge that goes beyond the Techno-scientific field, since the interdisciplinary approach provides an increasingly qualified care. The combination of different fields, such as health with philosophical knowledge, offers the possibility to reflect more deeply on topics that were previously covered only in the technoscientific field. This way, the objetive of this work is to analyze voluntary euthanasia from the perspective and principles of utilitarian ethics, in order to provide the healthcare professionals with an approach that goes beyond the technoscientific field. It is a literature research of descriptive-analytical character. It clarifies relevant concepts such as euthanasia and human freedom and autonomy, always analyzing these concepts from an utilitarian perspective. The present work has the purpose of contributing to the improvement of healthcare professionals through an interdisciplinary approach, since it is believed that the more qualified a professional is, the better the care provided by the same will be, especially if the patient is going through the dying process.

¿Qué significa en el ordenamiento español el derecho a «vivir con dignidad el proceso de la muerte»?

Rey Martínez, Fernando 10 April 2018 (has links)
What does «the right to live the process of dying with dignity» mean in Spanish law?Different recent regulatory developments in Spanish legal system are analyzed in this article concerning person’s rights at the end of its life. In particular, the author attempts to explain the enigmatic sense of the new expression “the right to live the process of dying with dignity” and beyond its current configuration as a “legal” right—more than a constitutional one—. Also attempts to catalogue it as a new fundamental right.

Euthanasia: a Foucauldian analysis

Lewis, Tracey Unknown Date (has links)
The topic of this study, euthanasia, has become a modern-day issue that challenges some of societies traditionally held beliefs towards death and dying. This study drew upon the theoretical insights of Michel Foucault to provide a discursive analysis of the term euthanasia, and the issues surrounding the "right-to-die". It involved an analysis of primary texts from; nursing, general, and legal literature as well as the media between the years 2002-2004. Drawing upon data researched, the study analyses the main discourses regarding the practice of euthanasia for terminally ill individuals. The two competing discourses that emerged were what I have termed the sanctity-of life-discourse and the right-to-die discourse. The aim of the study was to uncover the discourses understanding of "truth" regarding the right-to-die. The analysis revealed that a small percentage of cancer sufferers (5%) die with their pain insufficiently treated and the right-to-die discourse claims that no individual should have to suffer needlessly, asserting the individuals right to autonomy. Directly opposing this is the sanctity-of life-discourse which states all life is sacred and nothing can justify euthanasia as an acceptable practice in society. My findings indicate the need for effective palliative care and pain management when caring for the terminally ill individual. The legal, ethical and moral implications of euthanasia are many and this study discusses the effects these may have on health professionals involved with the care of terminally ill patients. The study revealed an increasing deployment of the right-to-die discourse in the media and revealed concerns regarding the nursing professions lack of preparation to deal with euthanasia if it becomes a legal option in end of life care.

An analysis of patients' awareness and attitude concerning end of life issues.

Khanyile, Bathini Purity. January 2002 (has links)
This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach. It was based on an analysis that was done to determine awareness and attitude of patients in end of life issues. The semi-structured interviews were conducted for data collection. A sample of ten patients, five inpatient and five outpatient, was purposively chosen. Permission was obtained from the hospital superintendent and heads of departments, and also consent from patients, for the study. Data was analyzed, using the NVIVO program, a computer software, for data coding, and a conceptual model for categorization. From the findings, the researcher concluded that poor communication causes lack of knowledge in patients, which in turn limits the capacity for decision making in patients. The researcher also noted that participants were not aware of their autonomy in decision-making. / Thesis (M.Cur.)-University of Natal, Durban, 2002.

Faktore wat lewensondersteunende behandeling beinvloed

Burger, Gloria 05 September 2012 (has links)
M.Cur. / Modern technology has brought on the possibility to sustain life for an indefinit3e period, but does not give answers to the questions arising from such situations. In view of shrinking resources available for tertiary care, and the growing awareness of justice, indefinite continuation of life-support therapy has been subjected to scrutiny. Traditionally the treating physician made all decisions regarding therapy. In Western culture the public are more aware of their right to self-determination and participation in decision making with the autonomy to do so. The nurse's role also changed from "handmaiden" to an independent practitioner who takes part in decision making regarding her patient. Decisions regarding life-support therapy is sensitive and becomes more complicated the more people become involved. The following question can then be asked: What are all the factors in decision making concerning life-support therapy? The aim of this study is to identify the factors in decision making concerning life support, as the first step in defining the parameters in decision making. The design chosen to identify these factors is a qualitative, exploratory, contextual, phenomenological case-study design. one case study was done on a patient where the continuation of life support was questioned. All persons involved with the patient were included in the case study. Interviews were conducted, observations and field notes were made and patient records were explored to identify factors in decision making. A narrative was written to present this information. As these constituted the micro-level, a literature study was done to identify factors on the macro- and meso-levels. The results of the analysis are presented as a list of factors in decision making concerning life-support therapy.
