The Study of Kaohsiung Tourism Strategy

Jing, Chien-hui 26 August 2005 (has links)
This study is to recognize the aspects that need the most reinforcement regarding the tourism development in Kaohsiung city from the angle of tourism suppliers and to develop a complete tourism strategy for the city. Although Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan with convenient transportation and outstanding natural resources such as the mountains, rivers, ocean, and the port, it lacks various attractions, and it is less modernized compared to Taipei. Therefore, it is difficult to have tourists visit or stay in Kaohsiung. The research first reviewed references including the strategic plans used in other countries and then proposed the important factors of tourism development. Next, it based on the proposal and used Delphi Method to achieve the common consensus of tourism strategy among the government, tourism industries, and the experts in order to develop the complete tourism strategy suitable for Kaohsiung City. The results reveal that the improvement in highest demand for the tourism in Kaohsiung is to create its unique city image and key characteristics. It is necessary to integrate the service facilities, transportation services, and marketing individually and to establish cooperative relationship among them. In addition, the related tourism service systems should be well-qualified, enriched, and internationalized. It is also a crucial issue for Kaohsiung city to increase the amounts of visitors for overnight stay. Kaohsiung city government should cooperate with other nearby cities to develop local tour packages for attracting international tourists effectively.

A new tourism strategy to make the Durban Metropolitan Area (DMA) a "must see" destination in Africa.

Moodley, Chreeson Loganathan. January 2003 (has links)
This tourism strategy provides an overview of the DMA tourism product, an analysis of the strategic influences affecting the region and recommendations to achieve our vision 2010, of making the DMA a "must-see" destination in Africa. It provides a cohesive framework for the development of tourism in the region, bringing together key players including local tourism agencies, the city council, hotels, visitor attractions, retailers and transport providers. The regions strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were evaluated and this led to identification of the key issues that will affect the future success of tourism in the DMA. The impact of tourism is much wider than the purely economic. Tourism initiatives also support local businesses, culture and craft. The need to maintain attractive, high quality visitor destinations has meant that tourism contributes to the protection and upkeep of the regions built and natural environments. There are a number of key issues and challenges that face the tourism sector of the DMA. These were addressed with recommendations in order to achieve our Vision 2010: • Market segmentation • Image-and branding • Developing market intelligence • Communication and information technology • Partnership and co-ordination • Competing through quality • Business support • Development of "Must-Sees" • Major sporting events • Monitoring and Evaluation An aggressive competitive strategy to outsmart our competitors and make the DMA a "must-see" destination in Africa has been clearly outlined. There is a need for strategic leadership to bring all the relevant parties together to drive the strategy to success. The DMA is on the threshold of becoming one of the major tourism destinations in the world and it is up to every resident in our region to make this dream come true. / Thesis (MBA)-University of Natal, 2003.

BESÖKSNÄRINGEN – REKREATION ELLER EKONOMISK TILLVÄXT? : EN STUDIE OM BESÖKSNÄRINGEN I FYRA KOMMUNER I UMEÅREGIONEN.

Lodin, Johanna January 2021 (has links)
In an increasingly global world, the competition to attract visitors to a destination is hard. The hospitality industry is for many destinations an important factor for employment and economic growth. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate how the hospitality industry is represented in Swedish municipalities' policy documents. The study was conducted through a critical discourse analysis of four municipalities' planning documents. The discourse analysis was followed by a thematic analysis to link the results to previous research and literature in the hospitality industry and municipal planning.  The results of the study showed that the selected municipalities included the hospitality industry in their planning to varying degrees. For some municipalities the hospitality industry was included in the business sector, while for other municipalities it was part of the leisure and recreation sector. The study also showed that the regional strategies have a certain impact on the municipality's strategies in the hospitality industry. Even though the municipalities included in this study are part of the same region, the strategies are expressed in different ways. Finally, the discourse analysis showed that the hospitality industry is to a large extent included in the plan proposals but is not always followed up in the plan for implementation.

Evaluation Of Effects Of Thermal Tourism On Local Economy:the Case Of Termal District Of Yalova

Piri, Taner 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Tourism and local economic development are closely linked. Tourism can have a constructive effect on local economy and may help balance some of the inequalities between different parts of a country. Thus, in many regions in the world, the tourism sector is accepted as one of the greatest sources of economic growth and job creation. In line with economic contribution of the sector, tourism policy has become an instrument for territorial development and for enhancing an area&rsquo / s opportunities. It appears that tourism in Turkey, which is a tourism country, developed rapidly especially after the 1980s and gained important competitive advantage in international tourism market by using her mass tourism (sea, sand, sun) potential well. In addition to mass tourism, Turkey also has a significant potential for alternative tourism in different regions. Although Turkey takes important tourism share in the world, in terms of tourism revenues and arrivals, it is not sufficient considering the potential. It is obvious that alternative tourism potential is not fully explored due to some obstacle faced in the tourism sector. Insufficient commercialization of natural resources such as geothermal, lack of adequate infrastructure for diversification and geographical expansion, lack of effective promotion and marketing activities are some of these obstacles. Particularly, having rich geothermal resources, thermal tourism has come to the fore as a type of alternative tourism in Turkey. Thermal tourism is a significant tourism type, which helps to improve people&rsquo / s health condition by providing a complementary therapy and also allows many recreational activities for the visitors. The aim of this thesis is to point out the crucial position of geothermal resources in the context of thermal tourism for their contribution to local economic development. In this context, the first chapter introduces the main aim and the research questions of the thesis and second chapter mentions the importance of tourism for local economic development. The third chapter explains importance of thermal tourism, which is given priority in the diversification of alternative tourism policy in Turkey, is discussed. Within this context, the thermal tourism policies determined by the 2023 Turkey Tourism Strategy and Thermal Tourism Master Plan are investigated as the main local economic development tool of regions, which are all rich in geothermal resources. In the fourth chapter, the direct and indirect economic effects of tourism considering the multiplier effect of tourist spending. The methodology selected for the case study, is mentioned in the fifth chapter. Finally, as a case study Termal District of Yalova will be analyzed in terms of employment data as well as investments in these regions in detail in order to understand the economic importance of thermal tourism at local and regional levels in the context of Thermal Tourism Master Plan.

ANALYSIS OF CHANGING STAKEHOLDER BEHAVIOUR: CASE STUDY OF THE CONSULTATION PROCESS FOR THE VICTORIAN ALPINE RESORTS 2020 STRATEGY

Tomsett, Paula May, paula@lynxgroup.com.au January 2009 (has links)
This study explored stakeholder behaviour during consultation processes for development, implementation, and evaluation of multi-faceted tourism strategies, using the Victorian Alpine Resorts 2020 Strategy as a case study. Stakeholders were classified using six stakeholder types (Government/Semi-government, Alpine Resort Management Board, Industry Group, Ski Club, Community-based Organisation, Individual) and five behaviour groups (allied, cooperative, neutral, competitive, threatening). An examination was made of stakeholder behaviour across the consultation process from engagement in the development of the Strategy to implementation and in attitude toward participating in an evaluation of the Strategy, behaviour recorded and factors contributing to changing behaviour analysed. Stakeholders displayed complex behaviour patterns moving between behaviour classifications during and across the consultation process. Stakeholder behaviour and commitment to strategy implementation changed; neutral, competitive or threatening behaviour often led to less commitment to strategy success and higher levels of cynicism in the consultation process, allied or cooperative behaviour supported strategy development but did not always lead to a commitment to strategy success. Behaviour toward an evaluation of the strategy often reverted to that exhibited during development. The majority of the stakeholders exhibited behaviour changes in both positive and negative directions and key factors in this change were associated with the consultation process itself to varying degrees of disappointment or satisfaction with the content of the final strategy document. However, negative or positive stakeholder behaviour bore no relation to stakeholder commitment to the Strategy. The findings of this study have added the element of behaviour to stakeholder theory and analysis of stakeholders, which is currently limited to describing and identifying stakeholders. Using this understanding a model of stakeholder behaviour has been developed comprising four behaviour groups (allied, disconnected, guarded and neutral), with indicators of behaviour and suggested consultation strategies to overcome negative responses. The model may facilitate the management of stakeholder consultation processes for positive long-term outcomes, the result of which would be the ongoing support and commitment of stakeholders to strategy or policy development and implementation.
