Research, design and testing of a multi-function modular exercise system

Smith, Jonathan D. January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this research was to develop a novel multi-function exercise system for use in a broad range of applications. Market research indicates that the demand for aerobic and anaerobic exercise devices will continue to grow with the introduction of government physical activity guidelines and increased social pressure regarding health related issues. A detailed investigation of the basic exercise science fundamentals and training methodologies was conducted in order to develop a system which would provide efficient and effective training related stimuli for improving fitness. The generation, storage and utilisation of actual and virtual load and velocity profiles for use in the development of original training modes was identified as an important area of the research. The proposed solution utilises an electromechanical programmable motion control system which provides all of the necessary exercise modalities defined in the system specification. This system combines existing industrial servo drive technology with proprietary software and database facilities to provide a step change in functionality, ease of use and safety for all users. Development of these hardware and software elements was supported by the creation of a series of system models at the initial stages of the research using the computer integrated manufacturing open systems architecture (CIMOSA) modelling approach. These diagrams were an invaluable resource during the concept generation and refinement processes and have clearly demonstrated the cross-discipline applications of such formalised modelling techniques. Validation and reliability data collected during prototype testing indicated that the exercise motion generation capabilities and performance measurement facilities were comparable to existing isokinetic dynamometer equipment. Additional subject testing produced results with peak output values and parameter trends which correlated closely to those determined during clinical and academic research. These experimental results suggest that the modular exercise system could be a valuable tool for the collection of research data to be used in support of current and future training theories.

Kompenzační cvičení jako doplněk tréninkového plánu dětí mladšího školního věku v krasobruslení / Compensation exercise like a supplement of young school age children in figure skating

Nowická, Eva January 2018 (has links)
Title: Compensatory exercise as a complement to the training schedule for children of younger school age in figure skating Objectives: The main objective of this work is to identify the most frequently occurring muscular dysbalance in the studied group of younger school-age figure skaters. Therefore, in order to find out the fundamental deficiencies, we used simple tests and based on the deficiencies, we created a buffer of compensatory exercises. We will verify the results using the same tests as at the beginning of the initial measurement after the three-month preparatory period. Methods: In my work I used a functional muscular test to assess the flexibility and examination of a physiotherapist with the help of the MFK system. We do not only measure the muscular strength of the main muscle in individual tests, but we also investigate and analyze the performance of the whole movement. Testing was attended by five figure skaters in the younger school age. Results: Initial testing took place at the start of the preparatory period. A 3-month compensation program was then applied and after the test, the probands were again tested to determine the effect. The results of this work are described in the tables. The result of this work is that the most problematic parts were the abdominal, back muscles and...

Kompenzační cvičení jako doplněk tréninkového plánu dětí mladšího školního věku v krasobruslení / Compensation exercise like a supplement of young school age children in figure skating

Nowická, Eva January 2017 (has links)
Title: Compensatory exercise as a complement to the training schedule for children of younger school age in figure skating Objectives: The main aim of this work is to highlight muscle dysbalance and their subsequent weakening and hypermobility in younger school age children in figure skating. Based on these weaknesses, create a stack of release, stretching and exercise exercises that can be used under any circumstances. Methods: In my work, I used a Janda muscle test, an analytical method that was focused on determining the strength of each muscle group. In individual tests, we are not only measuring the muscular strength of the main muscle, but we also investigate and analyze the performance of the whole movement. I was based on qualitative and quantitative values. Results: The measured data were compared and evaluated according to the literature. The impact of one-sided load in the long-term sports practice of figure skating was confirmed. It has also been shown that these exercises can be used for this particular set of probands to compensate for unilateral loading and adjust the training so that compensatory exercises are part of the training. Furthermore, I managed to design a program that would reduce these weaknesses for this selected group of probands. Keywords: Figure skating, training,...

Fysisk aktivitet och hälsa : Leder fysisk aktivitet i form av träning till en bättre självupplevd hälsa i både arbetslivet och på fritiden?

Svensson Bygnér, Jeanette January 2013 (has links)
Background: The relationship between physical activity and mental health has in recent years been studied more frequently. Physical activity can help prevent various diseases and many reports supports that exercise is good. For the body to function optimally physical activity is needed. Sedentary occupations and poor exercise is for many a lifestyle. People seem to be more unhealthy . Physical activity could be part of the solution to a healthier lifestyle. There is an connection between exercise and better health and ability. In my question, I think that a regular exercise provides a healthier individual in their everyday jobs (work / studies). More studies in this area is needed to enlighten people about the improvements you can do yourself to their health and inner wellbeing. Objective: Purpose of the study was to investigate whether the self-perceived effect of physical activity is positive in terms of concrete improvements in health. Method: The content analysis was used to analyze the manifest content of the text. Results: All of the participants describe specific health improvements in both the physical and mental everyday everyday life. Stress levels had decreased pain, back pain was minimized and well-being had improved. The joy of working and socializing had been increased and several of the participants mentioned their blood sugar levels was key factor that had improved. Discussion: In order to maintain a good health at work and during leisure regular physical activity is needed. Conclusions: Physical activity should be promoted more and used more in prevention purposes than they do today. A better physical ability simply provides a healthier living. / <p>2013-06-04</p>
