Estruturas icônicas nas cartilhas de treinamentos quadrinizadas / Iconic structures in training comics

Sarro, Ed Marcos 05 May 2009 (has links)
The present work refers to the study of the concept of structure while the iconic representation of ideas, simple and complex, (by the visual elements of comics) and their presence in training manuals turned into this graphic language. The research seeks to confirm if there is such kind of thing as a set of minimal units of signification in comics which universal features would allow intuitive interpretation of its codes, making communication via manuals more efficacious. The theorical reference is based upon the perspectives of sciences of language (linguistics, semiotics and visual semiology), the theories of communication, design theory and on applied human sciences. The object of this study is a training manual about environmental education and recycling published as a comic book and planned for the use of operational employees but also for their families and community. The study has concluded that, although the existence of a collection of elementary and universal iconic signs, sometimes handling this signs depends on the articulation with more complex signs and on the help of verbal text for means of higher precision, besides the possession of a certain previous background.

The effect of a video presentation and reference guide manual of helicopter safety instruction on the knowledge base of medical transport nurses

Stcikney, K. Linda 01 January 1989 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of trained transport nurses being oriented to a new helicopter by a video presentation and reference guide manual educational program when compared with trained transport nurses being trained by actual hands-on demonstration. Using a posttest-only design and the t test for independent samples, it was found that the two groups of nurses did not differ statistically (t (9) = 0.318, p < .051).

Transitional embedded instructions for manipulating physical objects

Bujak, Keith Robert 22 May 2014 (has links)
There has been much research on how people use instructional information to gain procedural knowledge. In the context of procedures involving physical objects, however, there has been little research on the role these objects play in conveying procedural information. This study investigated how people used instructions – presented as either images or text – to assemble various physical objects. Objects were selected that either comprised uniquely shaped or interchangeable parts. Participants assembled each object twice, randomly receiving either image or text instructions for each build. They then assembled each object without the instructions and made judgments about the order of the procedure from memory. Image instructions generally resulted in faster and more accurate assemblies as well as more accurate memory for procedural order. These results were found only for objects with uniquely shaped parts. An object comprising interchangeable parts was readily assembled with either instructional type. Although text alone failed to provide any advantages, the combination of images and then text resulted in more consistent mental workload, which might be beneficial in some operational contexts. These results provide insights about how physical objects influence the use of and knowledge gained from procedural instructions.

Didaktická reflexe globálních angličtin v učebních textech pro učitele angličtiny / The role of English in the globalized world and its reflection in current teacher training manuals

Hovorka, Marek January 2016 (has links)
The present thesis is concerned with the reflection of Global Englishes (GEs) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) in current teacher training manuals. The theoretical part introduces research into GEs and ELF with an emphasis on the pedagogical implications of the global role of English. The practical part consists in an analysis of four teachers training manuals of British provenance published between 2011 and 2014. Using a qualitative content analysis (see Schreier 2012), the author identifies in the selected publications textual material reflecting research into GEs and ELF. The identified textual material deals primarily with the teaching of language (e.g. pronunciation teaching) and culture (e.g. cultural relevance of materials), but attention is also paid to the current role of English in the world. On the basis of this material, the author then evaluates how the selected publications reflect research into GEs and ELF. The conclusion provides a summary of results, and suggestions for further research. Keywords: Global Englishes, English as a Lingua Franca, teacher training manuals, ELT, qualitative content analysis
