Emotional intelligence, need for cognition and cognitive reflective ability related to attitudes towards a further training program among preschool staffLundgren, Joakim January 2017 (has links)
There are currently scarce research regarding further training programs and employees’ attitudes toward them. This present work examined 95 preschool employees from one municipal community in matters of emotional intelligence, need for cognition, and cognitive reflective ability and how these influenced their attitudes toward a further training program called International Child Development Programme, ICDP (study 1). Six participants were also interviewed in regards to more organizational aspects of the ICDP-training and their experiences of the program’s implementation in the actual worksituation (study 2). The results of study 1 showed a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and attitudes toward the program. Study 2 revealed lack of follow-ups and sustainability of the program in the real-life work-situation. Suggestions for countering these flaws as well as a more individually focused approach in embracing, applying and maintaining the teachings of a further training program are discussed.

The development of a training program for foremen in the construction industry, aligned with the National Qualification frameworkVan Tonder, Estie 13 February 2012 (has links)
This study is about the development of a training model for foremen in the construction sector. It is important since the sector is growing rapidly, a critical shortage of skills exists and at the same time major changes occurred in terms of training and development, labour market trends and the prevalence of HIV/Aids. The changes in labour market trends refer to the casualisation of employment where most of the trade skills work on large construction projects is outsourced to sub-contractors. This makes the role of foremen of critical importance. The purpose of the study is to develop a training program for foremen in the construction industry, aligned with the National Qualification Framework. The research is a qualitative exploratory study using mixed methods. The research includes a literature study into training and the needs assessment process and an investigation into the new legislative environment in South Africa. The investigation then considers local and international construction training. The practical study is carried out by doing a comprehensive assessment of the training needs of foremen working for Group Five Building and then those needs are link to qualifications, unit standards and short courses registered within the National Qualification Framework as training interventions to develop foremen. The study found that foremen in the construction sector are aging rapidly with few new entrants. The training of foremen is almost non-existent with no well recognized training program in place. The qualification registered with the South African Qualifications Authority for this purpose does not meet the requirements if actual training needs of foremen. As a result of the study, a training program for foremen aligned with the National Qualification Framework were developed and 28 trainee foremen working for Group Five Building are being trained on the specific program. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

Analýza efektivity vzdělávacího programu realizovaného v nadnárodní společnosti / Analysis of the effectiveness of training program implemented in multinational outsourcing companyMrhálková, Hana January 2013 (has links)
This master thesis deals with the analysis of the training program, which is implemented in a multinational outsourcing company. During the analysis of training program I am using knowledge of Kirkpatrick model and Success Case Method study, which are described in theoretical part. The aim of this thesis is to describe the processs of the training program (focusing on the description of leadership techniques) and evaluate this course. The basic premise of the thesis is that the training program has positive feedback in the company and it has also good reputation. I'm trying to confirm those claims through an evaluation of questionnaire survey and interviews with graduates of the training program. Evaluation will give me information about employee satisfaction with the organization and content of the course, with the knowledge and skills of the teacher, etc. The questionnaires are focused on identifying what the graduates have learned, how much of it they have used in practice and what they have accomplished thanks to those knowledge. To extend this information I used personal interviews, which provide me with specific examples of the use of leadership techniques in various situations in workplace. Finally, I summarize all the results and make recommendations that would increase the effectiveness of the course.

Relationship of Patient Self-Administered COPD Assessment Test (CAT) to Physician Standard Assessment of COPD in a Family Medicine Residency Training ProgramJohnson, Leigh, Burchette, Jessica, Click, Ivy A., Williams, Sandra Alicia 08 May 2017 (has links)
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. COPD is of particular concern in certain sectors of the country, including Central Appalachia where our clinic is located. Assessing patients with COPD presents many challenges as symptoms range from those considered "typical" such as shortness of breath and sputum production to those less often identified like anxiety and social isolation. We conducted a pilot study comparing physician standard assessment of COPD to patient self-assessment using the COPD Assessment Test (CAT). The CAT is an eight-item questionnaire that measures the impact COPD has on an individual patient’s well-being and daily life. Based on our small sample size, physicians tend to underestimate the impact of COPD on a patient’s daily life. This discrepancy did not differ significantly by year of residency. Potential clinical impact of these findings include the need for more formalized and frequent patient self-assessment of disease burden as well as increased COPD assessment training within the residency curriculum.

Evaluation of a Simulator Based, Novice Driver Risk Awareness Training ProgramDiete, Frank 01 January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
An advanced training program on risk perception was developed and evaluated in a driving simulator. This training program included two elements. The first one was a PC-based Risk Awareness and Perception Program (RAPT) that had been developed and evaluated in several studies by researches at the Human Performance Lab within the last several years. Plan views of risky scenarios were used to explain to participants the location of potential hazards. The second element of the training (SIMRAPT) was newly developed for this study and used the portable low-cost driving simulator Drive Square Simulation System to train risk perception skills while the participant actually drove a real car in a virtual environment. A head mounted display was used to present the virtual world. Feedback was given to participants when they failed to scan appropriately for hazards. Twelve novice drivers served as experimental group and were trained with the combined RAPT/SIMRAPT training program. Twelve other novice drivers were given training not relevant to hazard anticipation and served as the control group. After training, both groups were evaluated on an advanced driving simulator (different from the Drive Square Simulation System used in SIMRAPT training) and the eye movements of both groups of drivers were measured. The drivers’ score was based on whether or not their eye-fixations indicated recognition of potential risks in different driving situations. The evaluation included eight scenarios used in the RAPT/SIMRAPT training (near transfer scenarios) and eight scenarios that were not used in the training (far transfer scenarios). The results indicated that trained drivers are more likely than untrained drivers to fixate on regions where potential risks might appear. Further the evaluation indicates that the training effect of the combined training using both the PC (RAPT) and a low-cost driving simulator (SIMRAPT) is larger than for training programs that only use the PC, though not significantly so.

Development and Assessment of a Prototype for a Training Program to Enhance Implementation Leadership of Unit Nurse Managers in the Chinese Nursing ContextChen, Wenjun 07 June 2023 (has links)
Background: Unit nurse managers are in a key position to influence the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing. However, research indicates that nurse managers in China lack the competencies and behaviours to effectively lead implementation. The purpose of this study was to develop a prototype for an implementation leadership training program for unit nurse managers in China, and assess the prospective acceptability of the prototype.
Methods: The dissertation was conducted in three study phases using multiple methods: 1) a mixed-methods systematic review of leadership development interventions for managers supervise nurses; 2) a qualitative descriptive study using an integrated knowledge translation (IKT) approach to develop a prototype for an implementation leadership training program based on the Ottawa Model of Implementation Leadership in Changsha, China; and 3) a qualitative descriptive study to investigate the prospective acceptability of the prototype among potential program deliverers and participants (n=14) from three tertiary hospitals in Changsha, China.
Results: The systematic review analyzed 69 studies and found that leadership development interventions, including lectures, group work, and mentoring, positively impacted managers' leadership competencies in supporting, developing, and recognizing nurses. However, obstacles such as understaffing, time constraints, and lack of support hindered the application of these competencies in practice. In the co-development stage, nurse managers (n=7) identified all 14 O-MILe behaviours as important for EBP implementation, with some behaviours requiring modifications for clarity and cultural relevance. Managers outlined specific actions related to clinical practices, EBP, nurses, patients, interprofessional staff, incentives, resources, organization, and external entities. They emphasized the need for competencies in EBP, professional nursing, and implementation leadership. The training program prototype consisted of five interactive modules to be delivered through multimodal forms such as lectures, group discussions and coaching. Unit nurse managers (n=14) found the prototype acceptable, expecting it to enhance care provision and align with their professional values. Time constraints, the COVID-19 impact, and support from senior leadership were identified as influencing future participation.
Conclusion: The prototype for the implementation leadership training program was perceived as acceptable to unit level nursing managers in the hospital context in Changsha, China. Future research is needed to explore the impact of the training program on enhancing implementation leadership competencies and behaviours of unit nurse managers, and the subsequent influence on nursing practice and patient outcomes.
