Husserlova teorie poznání / Husserl's Theory of Knowledge

Bárta, Tomáš January 2018 (has links)
The main aim of this thesis is to introduce Husserl's theory of knowledge. The whole work is prefaced by the interpretation of Husserl's idea of the failure of modern science and its societal consequences. The following is an explanation specifying the problem of knowledge as a problem of the transcendence of consciousness towards the cognized object. In the summary of Husserl's critique of the origin and development of modern science and philosophy is the focus laid on the motives that prove the impossibility of solving the problem of knowledge using objectivistic respectively naturalistic concepts. On the other hand, Husserl's answer to the problem of knowledge is the analysis of the constitution of subjectivity in the field of transcendental consciousness. In the final chapter, Patočka's critique of several key concepts of Husserl's phenomenology is outlined.

Representations of transcendence in the work of Anselm Kiefer and Anish Kapoor

Rademeyer, Stefanus 22 December 2008 (has links)
In this research dissertation I argue that selected works of artists Anselm Kiefer (b.1945) and Anish Kapoor (b.1954) can best be understood as representations of transcendence. I begin by locating works selected for this research within the body of work each artist has produced. This is followed by the definition of my key terms: representation, transcendence and emptiness. An analysis of the relation between these terms forms the basis for my theoretical framework. I will then investigate the specific material and aesthetic qualities of the selected works, and work towards a metaphorical and conceptual understanding of the artworks with the aid of my theoretical framework. This is followed by an investigation of my own creative work. In the conclusion I consolidate my analysis of representations of transcendence and emptiness in the previous three chapters, which is followed by a recapitulation and consideration of my findings.

On Transcendence of Irrationals with Non-eventually Periodic b-adic Expansions

Koltunova, Veronika January 2010 (has links)
It is known that almost all numbers are transcendental in the sense of Lebesgue measure. However there is no simple rule to separate transcendental numbers from algebraic numbers. Today research in this direction is about establishing new transcendence criteria for new families of transcendental numbers. By applying a recent refinement of Subspace Theorem, Boris Adamczewski and Yann Bugeaud determined new transcendence criteria for real numbers which we shall present in this thesis. Published only three years ago, their articles explore combinatorial, algorithmic and dynamic approaches in discussing the notion of complexity of both continued fraction and b-adic expansions of a certain class of real numbers. The condition on the expansions are those of being stammering and non-eventually periodic. Taking together these articles give a well-structured picture of the interrelationships between sequence characteristics of expansion (i.e. complexity, periodicity, type of generator) and algebraic characteristics of number itself (i.e. class, transcendency).

Self-Transcendence, Vulnerability, and Well-Being in Hospitalized Japanese Elders

Hoshi, Miwako January 2008 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among vulnerability, self-transcendence, and well-being in Japanese hospitalized elders. With their declining functional health and diminishing social network, elderly people are considered as a vulnerable population, which require special care and attention in the field of nursing. Self-Transcendence is identified as one of the developmental resources that promote well-being in later adulthood during increased vulnerability; however, applicability of the concept of self-transcendence as well as its theory has never been tested in Japanese population. Thus, the current study specifically tested and refined a theoretical model of self-transcendence in Japanese elders. In this study, a nonexperimental descriptive design was used to examine relationships among the variables. A total of 105 elderly patients were recruited from 4 hospitals in Sapporo, Japan. The respondents' level of vulnerability was assessed by three aspects: vulnerability in health status, vulnerability in resource availability, and past vulnerable experience. Well-being was examined from the level of depression and life satisfaction. Besides psychosocial self-transcendence, spiritual self-transcendence from Japanese perspective was conceptualized and evaluated.Reliability testing provided adequate supports for all the study instruments. Findings of multiple regression analyses indicated mediating effects of psychosocial self-transcendence on the relationship between vulnerability in resource availability and well-being variables. Psychosocial self-transcendence also demonstrated direct effects on well-being. Spiritual self-transcendence did not show any mediating and moderating effect in the relationship between vulnerability and well-being; however, it was found to be the strongest predictor for the level of life satisfaction. In addition, the findings revealed that vulnerability in health status had a direct effect on the level of depression, but past vulnerable experience had no effect on both self-transcendence and well-being.Findings of this study provided further evidence of universality of the concept of self-transcendence and applicability of its theory to Japanese hospitalized elders. This study not only contributes to Japanese nursing research by adding the body of knowledge about self-transcendence and spirituality but also can be a basis for formulating interventions that help enhance well-being in vulnerable elderly patients.
