Wireless transceiver for the TLL5000 Platform: protocol, error correction, and interface to hardwareCanac, Vanessa Sei-Hu 17 September 2010 (has links)
This report details work completed on a subsection of a project to create a wireless transceiver for use with the TLL5000 Baseboards available in the University of Texas Embedded Microsystems Lab. The boards are used by students to learn about embedded systems and currently lack support for any wireless communications. As wireless communications are a vital part of many embedded systems, this project seeks to add wireless functionality. This report describes the work that has gone into the design of a transmission protocol, the implementation of a convolutional encoder and Viterbi decoder, and the writing of a driver to control the wireless hardware which will all run on the TLL-SILC 6219 ARM processor attached to the TLL5000 Baseboards. / text

A Study of Rate-based TCP MechanismsLai, Hsiu-Hung 24 August 2006 (has links)
Many applications in modern science need to transmit extremely massive amount of data over wide area networks. These data usually do not need stringent real-time requirements but require large bandwidth to finish transmission with unreasonable time. High-energy physics experiments and climate modeling and analysis are typical examples of such applications. As TCP is known to perform inefficiently over networks of large delay-bandwidth product, efficient transmission of this kind of massive, non-real-time data has been heavily studied in the past. The previous results work well in dedicated networks but will compete for fair share of bandwidth with normal TCP connections if they operate in the public networks. The objective of this thesis is to design a new transmission protocol for the above applications that can operate in the public networks without affecting normal TCP connections. The new protocol is called Rate Control Transmission Protocol (RCTP). The idea is to apply the packet-pair measurement technique to measure the bandwidth share in the network for the transmission. The sending rate is based on that measurement and is precisely compensated by the RTT variance measurement. Due to the RTT compensation, RCTP can efficiently utilize the unused bandwidth in the network while not affecting the normal TCP transmissions, making it perfect for transmitting massive, non-real-time data in the public networks.

Improved Security Protocols for SCTPHuang, Yu-Kai 28 August 2009 (has links)
With fast and prosperous development in communication technology, desktop or
mobile devices may be equipped with wired and wireless network interfaces. Hence,
users need a multihoming technique to help them making use of the network in-
terfaces effectively. The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a new
transport protocol approved by the SIGTRAN Working Group of IETF (Internet
Engineering Task Force) as RFC 2960 in October 2000 where it includes this useful
characteristic. However, this feature may lead to some secure pitfalls. In this thesis,
we come up with some approaches to improve SCTP against some existing tough
problems raised from multihoming and provide more sufficient protection methods
based on cryptography. Finally, a comparison of the existing security solutions is
also given to demonstrate our contributions.

This paper deals with IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) transmission of feedback and is showing options and ways of construction, problems and optimalization of signalization protocol. In the beginning are described IPTV and technology terms that this technology uses. Here can be found information about classical TV (Television) transmitting and comparing with IPTV technology, the advantages and disadvantaged of IPTV and answers why this solution has future. Next parts are about history of IPTV and real use over ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) in present. Here are explained all the necessary units like Head-End, feedback target, root feedback target, ADSL, DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) and methods of data stream transmission. Also here are described the techniques of video stream compression (MPEG-2 and MPEG-4) and all options of data transmission as broadcast, unicast and multicast. Important part is about transmission speed and needs. The realization also contains applications, written in the C++ language, for transmitting and receiving packets by UDP (User Datagram Protocol) protocol. The task of these applications is to load the main server, where the measurement of packet loss and CPU (Central Processing Unit) load takes place. The result is a table of measured values for specified packet sizes and for specified time intervals between them. The meaning of this measuring is to find the maximal number of computer nodes, which the feedback target is able to proceed. Last part is about realization of 2 applications in JAVA language, which get the information about end-nodes. Both algorithms are using 2 threads to increase speed of getting the information. The client has few random generators within one thread, which will be later replaced by special algorithms for getting real values.

Prototype system for detecting and processing of IEEE 802.11a signalsGoh, Che Seng 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / As the need to send larger amounts of information increases, the military is looking into viable solutions to push this information throughout the battle space. IEEE 802.11a wireless LAN network presents an attractive high-speed solution by providing data rates up to 54 Mbps. At the same time, wireless LAN introduces increased security risk due to its vulnerability to exploitation of the wireless LAN physical layer. This research will develop a prototype system using low cost hardware and software solution to detect and process wireless IEEE 802.11a signals. Using the prototype, performance data will be collected to determine whether IEEE 802.11a is a feasible option as a high-speed information network for military use. Additionally, the performance data collected will provide a good basis for predicting the expected performance in an operational scenario and provide valuable information for proper deployment planning. / Major, Republic of Singapore Air Force
