The present work discusses the design and development of educational software for teaching the uniform convergence of sequences of real functions. This advanced mathematical topic is taught during the second year of undergraduate studies in Mathematics Departments of Greek academic institutions. The experiences of both students and instructors agree that this topic is difficult to understand by using only traditional teaching methods (such as a lecture and the use of the blackboard). The reason is that it is difficult to draw manually graphical representations of the sequences of real functions. The educational software described here (named UNIform COnvergence Resource Navigator, or UNICORN) aims to cover this educational gap by teaching the concept of the uniform convergence of sequences of real functions through the construction and analysis of the respective graphical representations. The design of the educational software was mainly based on the teaching theory of constructivism. UNICORN is an open environment that aims to actively involve the user/learner in the learning process and to activate her creativity. The student’s navigation through the software is assisted by instructional questions and feedback, both of which are based on the learning theory of instructionism. UNICORN was developed with the help of Mathematica 4.0 (graphical representations), Director 8.5 (interface), and BuddiApi (communication between UNICORN and Mathematica). The software is ready for pilot testing and evaluation as supplementary teaching material and/or as a tool for long distance learning.

What makes a successful Unicorn IPO? / Vad ligger bakom en framgångsrik Unicorn IPO?

Nord, Karl Axel, Franzén, Filip January 2020 (has links)
Amongst the great numbers of companies being listed on the stock exchange, one type of company stands out from the rest. Known as Unicorns, these companies are valued at $1 billion or more before they are even acquired or listed on the stock market. In order to understand why some of these companies perform well on the stock exchange, this thesis attempts to find the driving factors of stock price growth using multiple regression analysis. The results are two different models that can be used by investors considering investing in this type of company. The first model consists of the increase of a company’s total costs, research and development costs, total assets and number of employees. This model is likely to be useful when investing in companies operating in the tech industry as they typically have high research and development costs. The second model consists of a company’s increase in marketing costs, return on invested capital and number of employees. When considering investing in companies that have a large amount of marketing costs, such as companies operating in the retail industry, this model is likely to serve a better purpose. The models are however not accurate enough to solely be relied upon when deciding if and how much to invest but should rather be used as pointers on whether a company will increase in value after the first day of trading.

Investování do IT společností / Investing in technology companies

Panáček, Martin January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on the issue of investing in information technology companies solely on the American capital market. It is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the private market. It compares the situation with the financial bubble in 2000 and with recent developments. It describes the current situation from a legal and financial point of view. It works with the term "Unicorn" for companies with valuations exceeding $ 1 billion. The second part focuses on the stock market and describes the change in the market capitalization of technology companies in relation to fundaments that are created in the private market. The diploma thesis is suitable for investors who want to invest in this type of companies, but they do not have access to the private market and therefore their only investment option is with the entry of the technology company into the stock market. The author's contribution lies in describing the current situation in the technology companies market.

Integrace metodiky PRINCE2 do internetové služby Unicorn Universe / Integration of the PRINCE2 methodology into the Unicorn Universe online service

Kocián, Václav January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with the subject of project management, primarily from the viewpoint of the development of a tool for project management support using the PRINCE2 methodology and the Unicorn Universe information system. The subject of the theoretical part is the definition of a project and project management and a description and a comparison of the most widely used project management standards, PRINCE2, PMI and IPMA. Subsequently, the emphasis is put on a detailed description of PRINCE2 with regard to its use in the next parts of the work. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis the chapters are devoted to Unicorn Universe and to Unicorn Enterprise System Powered Company, which is a methodology used for company management. In the practical part, the author followed the recommended 4-phases process of the development of a new methodology set defined by the UESPC methodology; inception, elaboration, construction and transition. By means of the analysis in inception and elaboration stages and creation of A4 and High Level Concept documents, which describe specific ways how to implement various elements of PRINCE2into the Unicorn Universe, and the subsequent production of project management tool prototype, the author worked his way up to the construction stage, in which he designed and created definitions of meta artifacts and scripts for their later implementation in the final phase, called transition. In this phase metaartifacts were set up. They are templates for management and control artifacts and for other items necessary for the production of the methodological set, a final product of the thesis. At the end of thesis, the automation scripts, as proposed in the previous stage to verify the practical use of the thesis product, were assigned for implementation.

Galloping to markets far away : A multi-case study on Stockholm based tech start-ups internationalisation, including barriers and drivers influencing the process.

Masso, Mimra, Olander, Matilda Sofie January 2019 (has links)
Firm internationalisation has been a broadly examined subject, which has generated various established theories. Previous business activities are described as structured, incremental and predictable, which has enabled the development of frameworks that describe how the business internationalisation is conducted. Today’s technological advances, globalisation and changes in demographics are contemporary environmental forces of change, and the Swedish tech industry is growing in a steady phase. The tech start-ups internationalise rapidly and from an early age but in various ways, and therefore, reflecting diverse internationalisation theories to different extents. The wave of tech start-up is increasing and are seemingly operating in an unconventional manner and contradicts well-known theories, leaving scholars in the search for profound understanding about this phenomenon. Consequently, lack of previous research based on tech start-ups internationalisation processes has provided motivation for this study, with the intention to provide knowledge to companies and contribute with new theory angles to the existing literature. The purpose with this study was to fill the research gap on tech start-up internationalisation by investigating and analyse how the Stockholm-based tech start-ups internationalise, what barriers and drivers they have encountered while pursuing the expansion as well as, how these have affected the internationalisation. The literature review emphasises on internationalisation theories as well as, barriers and drivers of the internationalisation process and is summarised with a conceptual framework. The study was conducted through a qualitative case study including four companies of, which all four had established international operations and therefore, generated insightful information about the subject. Moreover, interviews with founders and CEOs of the companies were conducted through semi-structured approach, which including questions related to their internationalisation process and the barriers and drivers. The empirical data was thereafter organised and paralleled with previous theories as well as, with the authors' considerations. Finally, the conclusion highlight answers to the research questions and provide theoretical and practical implications, as well as suggestions for further research.
