1	Motiv jídla a jeho význam pro dílo Uwe Timma / Motive of food and its significance for the work of Uwe Timm Ivanenková, Andrea January 2017 (has links) This thesis deals with the subject of food and its aspects in the work of Uwe Timm. The first part depicts different areas from everyday life which are in some way linked to food. German-speaking writers are mentioned for comparison since they address the subject of food in their literary works in some way as well. In the next section the biography of the author is presented, since he incorporates his autobiographical features and experiences in his work. Based on motive research, selected literary works by Uwe Timm are examined and different nuances of the aspect of food are presented. 2	Experiencing literature – learning from experience: the application of neuroscience to literary analysis by example of representations of German colonialism in Uwe Timm’s Morenga Allen, Heather 08 September 2011 (has links) Is it probable that a reader can have an empathetic and learning experience of an historical event facilitated through text? Research in neuroscience indicates that the form of a text can trigger mirror neurons, enhancing empathy with the events and characters portrayed and enabling introspective learning through stimulation of the default state network in a reading brain. Narrative elements in historical and fictional literature are analyzed for their potential in facilitating the stimulation of these states. The historical fiction novel Morenga by Uwe Timm is analyzed in order to deduce what a reader neurologically experiences in relation to the text and the historical event portrayed in the novel during the reading process. The probability of the reader experiencing empathy and learning through text so that their perspectives on inter-textual and extra-textual similar events are affected is then developed. The birth of racial hygiene out of the spirit of utopian ideals Bičík, Miroslav January 2021 (has links) Presented Master's thesis deals with euthanasia in the novel "Ikarien" by German author Uwe Timm. The thesis highlights development of its main character Alfred Ploetz, an originator of so-called racial hygiene (German variation of eugenics). Ploetz supported the idea of performing euthanasia on severely disabled people. This was applied at massive scale in Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1945. One of the goals of this thesis is to analyze the connection between utopian notions about the creation of a new man, eugenics and euthanasia performed by Nazis, which is reflected in the life of Alfred Ploetz. Furthermore, the thesis aims to give analysis of literary means used for capturing subject matter and compare factual and fictional parts of this historical novel.
