The adhesion and resuspension of nanoparticles is important in applications ranging from semiconductor manufacturing to pollution management. The objective of this work is to understand the effect of particle size on re-entrainment of nanometer scale particles. One of the major contributions is to reduce the randomness introduced in past measurements on resuspension by controlling humidity, temperature, material and the distribution of shape and particle sizes. In the process of studying particle size, the effect of surface roughness was also found. Measurements of the detachment fraction of carbon particles as a function of flow rate show three distinct regimes that we attribute to the dominance of drag, energy accumulation by particles, and collision and agglomeration respectively. Experiments with silica nanoparticles on silica microspheres show the detachment fraction to increase non-linearly with particle diameter and to decrease with the substrate diameter. We attribute the former to the dominance of the drag moment over the adhesive moment. We attribute the influence of the substrates to the surface roughness being comparable to the size of the nanoparticles. This work provides new empirical insight into the interaction of nanoparticles with surfaces and fluid flows.

En el presente trabajo se ha mejorado el lead time de reparación de equipos de construcción a través de la selección de una metodología de ingeniería denominada Six Sigma, para lo cual se utilizó la matriz multicriterio PJA (proceso de jerarquía analítica). Asimismo, logramos identificar los tiempos muertos por sub proceso, con la finalidad de medir los tiempos muertos en cada etapa del proceso. Por otro lado, planteamos las mejoras a través de técnicas de ingeniería de métodos, análisis de informe de capacidad six pack, gráficas MFV (mapeo de flujo de valor), entre otras, las cuales soportaron nuestra mejora de tiempo de hasta un 50 %. Asimismo, validamos el proceso con los cambios planteados en el software BIZAGI, el cual nos mostró un incremento de nuestra productividad en poco más del 40%. Finalmente, el análisis de sensibilidad con Montecarlo nos emitió una probabilidad mayor al 90% de que nuestro VAN (valor actual neto) sería mayor a MMUSD 3.00, lo cual demostraba que el proyecto era viable. / In this work it has been improved lead time equipment repair of construction machinery through the selection of an engineering methodology called Six Sigma, for which the multi matrix AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) was used. Also, we identify downtime by sub process, in order to measure dead times at each stage of the process. Furthermore, we propose improvements through methods engineering techniques, analysis capability report six pack, graphic VSM (Value Stream Mapping), among others, which endured our time improvement up to 50%. Also, we validate the process with the changes proposed in the BIZAGI software, which showed an increase in our productivity by just over 40%. Finally, the sensitivity analysis montercalo gave us greater than 90% probability that our NPV (net present value) would be higher than MMUSD 3.00, which showed that the project was viable. / Tesis

Dracula is a novel that has been said to have flat and uninteresting characters. Only two characters have been acknowledged as having depth, Wilhelmina Harker and Abraham Van Helsing. However, no extensive research has been done to determine what it is that makes them complex, leaving a gap in the understanding of Dracula. This essay will appraise the significance of the two characters to the novel by examining how they are characterised and by studying their importance to the plot. This allows for a new perspective on Dracula that revises the standard generic definition of the novel as Gothic. The stereotypical characters in Gothic novels are replaced with more intricate characters and subtleties. For instance, this essay argues that one can find Mina an ambiguous character who is stuck following rules she despises, and Van Helsing might be hiding his fear of Mina behind the mask of appreciation. Furthermore, the importance of Mina and Van Helsing to the plot, shown in several ways where the most prominent one is their associations with knowledge, changes what characters are the real protagonists of Dracula and shows another difference to the traditional Gothic novel. This essay reveals that there are holes in the Dracula research, and that many new readings can still be found. If one resists looking at the novel as purely Gothic, there are nuances that show that it does not quite fit the genre, and characterisation is one aspect that clearly differs.

Studiens syfte är att undersöka kunskaperna i plangeometri hos elever på samhällsvetenskapliga och naturvetenskapliga programmen.  Elevernas kunskaper kartläggs med ett kunskapstest, och detta kunskapstest genomförs även i två gymnasieklasser i Finland. De finska eleverna inkluderas för att bidra med ett internationellt perspektiv på de svenska elevernas resultat. Elevsvaren bedöms med hjälp av van Hieles teori om kunskapsutveckling. Resultaten visar att eleverna klarar av att utföra de beräkningarna som krävs, men att det saknas en djupare förståelse för geometri, speciellt inom området area. Jämförelsen mellan de finska och de svenska eleverna visar att det inte finns någon större skillnad mellan eleverna.

Detta är en studie som har sin utgångspunkt i Pierre M. van Hieles teori om lärande i geometri, som presenterades 1986 i boken Structure and Insight. Van Hiele har i boken vidareutvecklat sin och Dina van Hiele-Geldofs ursprungliga lärandeteori från 1955. Vår studie har som syfte att se om van Hieles teori går att tillämpa i en individuell, skriftlig diagnos för att nivåbestämma elever i årskurs 1 på gymnasiet.
