Updating Views Over Recursive XMLJiang, Ming 06 January 2008 (has links)
We study the problem of updating XML views defined over XML documents. A view update is performed by finding the base updates over the underlying data sources that achieve the desired view update. If such base updates do not exist, the view update is said to be untranslatable and rejected. In SQL, determining whether a view update is translatable is performed using schema level analysis, where the view definition and the base schema are used. XML schemas are more complex than SQL schemas, and can specify recursive types and cardinality constraints. There are two kinds of view updates: single view element update, where the user requires for an update over a particular view element, and a set of view elements update, where the user requires for an update over all view elements that satisfy a given XPath over the view. Accordingly, we propose one solution for each kind of view update problems based on schema level analysis for determining whether an update over XML views is translatable and for finding the translation if one exists, while considering the features of XML schemas.

[pt] Na área de dados interligados, usuários frequentemente utilizam ferramentas de descoberta de links para materializar links sameAs entre diferentes base de dados. No entanto, pode ser difícil especificar as regras de ligação nas ferramentas, se as bases de dados tiverem modelos complexos. Uma possível solução para esse problema seria estimular os administradores das base de dados a publicarem visões simples, que funcionem como catálogos de recursos. Uma vez que os links estão materializados, um segundo problema que surge é como manter esses links atualizados quando as bases de dados são atualizadas. Para ajudar a resolver o segundo problema, este trabalho apresenta um framework para a manutenção de visões e links materializados, utilizando uma estratégia incremental. A ideia principal da estratégia é recomputar apenas os links dos recursos que foram atualizadas e que fazem parte da visão. Esse trabalho também apresenta um experimento para comparar a performance da estratégia incremental com a recomputação total das visões e dos links materializados. / [en] In the Linked Data field, data publishers frequently materialize sameAs links between two different datasets using link discovery tools. However, it may be difficult to specify linking conditions, if the datasets have complex models. A possible solution lies in stimulating dataset administrators to publish simple predefined views to work as resource catalogues. A second problem is related to maintaining materialized sameAs linksets, when the source datasets are updated. To help solve this second problem, this work presents a framework for maintaining views and linksets using an incremental strategy. The key idea is to re-compute only the set of updated resources that are part of the view. This work also describes an experiment to compare the performance of the incremental strategy with the full re-computation of views and linksets.

Do Widget Libraries Need Mutable Data?Arumugasamy, Akshay Kumar 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines trends in the academic and professional literature around immutable
data and its relationship with declarative User Interfaces (UIs). Immutable
data types are preferred by academic authors due to their increased safety, and commercial
languages are increasing their support for them over time. More recently,
declarative UIs are an exploding topic in industry, and these are related, although
not as closely as one would expect. Declarative programming tries to focus on highlevel
requirements, not low-level details. It is easier to do this if functions have no
side effects, and immutable data is a guaranteed way of achieving this. To highlight
this property, the declarative UI framework Flutter advertises “stateless widgets”,
but their existence puts in highlights the lack of this property in most widgets. Consequently,
we ask whether it is feasible to build a Graphical User Interface (GUI)
toolkit using purely immutable data structures. To accomplish this objective, a
purely immutable GUI toolkit is sketched and partially developed using Elm, a purely
functional language in which all data structures are immutable. To understand the
requirements of a GUI toolkit, we categorize and put in historical context, different
design paradigms for UIs and relate them to core software-design principles. Leading
toolkits allow developers to visualize and manage multiple views of their interfaces, including the view hierarchy, layout, interface to business logic, and focus management.
By creating a concrete example, the research aims to provide insight into the
limitations of utilizing purely immutable data within a GUI framework and suggests
