Optimal element size-shape-spacing combinations for a 5 X 7 dot matrix visual display under high and low ambient illuminance

Burnette, James Tilson 08 June 2010 (has links)
A broad range of element size, element shape, and interelement spacing/element size ratio combinations at high and low ambient illuminance levels was used to determine optimal combinations for a 5 X 7 dot matrix visual display. Three tasks - a reading test, a random search task, and a structured (menu) search task - were used to enhance the utility of the research. All tasks were displayed on a CRT display 1.02 m from the subject. There were different overall results for the reading and the search tasks, as shown by an analysis of variance. The smaller elements (0.76 and 1.14 mm) and the 0.5 space/size ratio produced the shortest reading times, while the shortest search times came from the larger elements (1.14 and 1.52 rum). The square shape and low illuminance level (5.4 lux) had the shortest times for all three tasks. For a general purpose display, the combination of a square 1.14 rum dot, with 0.57 mm edge-to-edge spacing is recommended, to be used with the lowest practical ambient illuminance. / Master of Science

Možnosti presentace dat v aplikacích business intelligence / Possibilities of data presentation in business intelligence applications

Tůma, Martin January 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the possibility of presentation data in business intelligence (BI) applications. The aim is to develop a methodology for reporting and data visualization using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Business Intelligence Development Studio and Microsoft Excel 2010. Evaluate and identify opportunities for data display using the perception of information at a subconscious level in the above mentioned tools. Identify market trends from the perspective of business intelligence data visualization. In the first part thesis focuses on the analysis of the current BI market with regard to trends in data visualization. In the following part options of perceptions on a subconscious level are examined, which are then reflected in the establishment of a methodology reporting. Similarly, it is investigated the human perception of color. Presented are appropriate and inappropriate data visualization forms, at the most commonly used graphic forms. The work describes a method to ensure that the data will not be displayed tendentiously or distorted. My contribution is creating a reporting methodology that respects the life cycle of the report, as well as a logical follow-up steps to project management.

Ferramentas interativas de auxílio a diagnóstico por neuro-imagens 3D / Interactive tools for volumetric neuroimage based diagnosis

Yauri Vidalón, José Elías 22 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Wu Shin-Ting / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-22T07:56:06Z (GMT). Because of its high spatial and spectral resolution, it is increasing the use of magnetic resonance images both in the study of human organs as well as in the diagnosis of structural and functional abnormalities and in the surgery planning and training. Along with the rapid evolution of medical image processing algorithms, computer-aided diagnostics systems specialized in mammography, angiography, and computed tomography and magnetic resonance of the thorax have emerged in the last decade. The structural complexity of the brain and individual anatomical shape of skulls are, however, challenges in developing a diagnostic system specializing in neuro-imaging. Expert interventions are still essential both in the identification and in the interpretation of radiological findings. In this dissertation, we propose the use of three techniques to aid the medical experts in the search of subtle findings in an interactive way. We present two widgets, movable lens and volumetric probe, that allow one to update continuously the volume data in focus while are manipulated. In this way, it is possible to investigate brain regions of interest preserving its context. And, in order to facilitate the visual perception of the subtle functional or structural changes, we propose to use an editor of 1D transfer function to enhance or to increase the contrast between adjacent voxels. The tools were assessed by the neuro-imaging experts of the Laboratory of Neuro-Images of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Unicamp / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Analysis of genetic polymorphisms for statistical genomics: tools and applications

Morcillo Suárez, Carlos 19 December 2011 (has links)
New approaches are needed to manage and analyze the enormous quantity of biological data generated by modern technologies. Existing solutions are often fragmented and uncoordinated and, thus, they require considerable bioinformatics skills from users. Three applications have been developed illustrating different strategies to help users without extensive IT knowledge to take maximum profit from their data. SNPator is an easy-to-use suite that integrates all the usual tools for genetic association studies: from initial quality control procedures to final statistical analysis. CHAVA is an interactive visual application for CNV calling from aCGH data. It presents data in a visual way that helps assessing the quality of the calling and assists in the process of optimization. Haplotype Association Pattern Analysis visually presents data from exhaustive genomic haplotype associations, so that users can recognize patterns of possible associations that cannot be detected by single-SNP tests.

Hallberg, Mathilda January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation focusses on the culture of visual display during the 1930s and 1940s, more specifically photo contests and photo books based on photographs of children. The overall purpose of this investigation has been to study how photo contests and photo books have been a part of the negotiation of the organization of welfare for children and the family. It examines how the family, the welfare state and the nation were constructed by means of representations of children, the messages that were thus established, and the political visions that were communicated. Analyses of images and texts show that photo contests and photo books presented a unified message which said that more and better children were needed, but also how photo contests and photo books communicated disparate visions of how this goal should be reached. The study highlights how useful representations of children were in the construction of welfare. They had the potential to communicate both different visions and a shared vision of the welfare society.
