Des aménagements routiers sécuritaires et des techniques routières urbaines dans une perspective de gestion durable de la voirie : le cas du Québec / Safe road development and urban road technology from a sustainable road management perspective : the case of Quebec

St-Jacques, Michèle 16 May 2019 (has links)
For years, the development and maintenance of urban road systems responded to a continuous increase in automobile traffic by extending the network, with the blacktop for asphalt pavements taking the lead. However, the road now serves a wide variety of users, which it must now satisfy even as it struggles to meet their competing end goals. The road must enhance the landscape, while adequately serving the surrounding communities. Road design must be realized in a manner that allows drivers to perform what is expected of them naturally. Coloured bituminous surfaces can be used to create urban atmospheres, to reinforce the identity of a city, to facilitate the reading of spaces, to support the cohabitation of different users and to identify different places. Several new road engineering measures, such as roundabouts, parking, traffic signs and traffic calming measures, are now available to urban planners, traffic engineers and road designers. Furthermore, in the framework of sustainable development, new road techniques have emerged, including coloured bituminous pavements and a variety of warm mix asphalt techniques. This thesis, wich is based on thirty years of research, teaching, accomplishments and observations from around the world, presents these new road management measures and materials

Quantification of the Role of The Effective Binder in the Performance of RAP – WMA Mixtures

ALSALIHI, MOHAMMED, 0000-0003-1930-5392 January 2020 (has links)
Over the past decades, several new technologies/materials (such as WMA, RAP, rubber, polymers, bio-binders…etc.) were incorporated into asphalt mixtures. However, current mix-design specifications evaluate all mixtures containing these different additives/technologies based on volumetric. Further, RAP incorporation in asphalt mixtures is still limited, and the influence of lowered production temperatures on RAP contribution in RAP-WMA mixtures is understudied. To tackle these issues, this study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the effect of production factors ( RAP content and source, binder grade, and production temperatures) on the effective binder in WMA-RAP mixtures, and the role of the effective binder in controlling mixture performance. The experimental program included evaluation of the compaction, cracking, and rutting performance of WMA-RAP mixtures produced with a different combination of the production factors. The Semi-Circular Bend (SCB) test at intermediate temperatures was used for cracking evaluation, while the Indirect Tension Test at High Temperatures (IDT-HT) was used for rutting evaluation. Further, the study included rheological characterization of extracted binder from the mixtures to investigate the role of the effective binder on cracking performance. The results showed that the effective binder properties are changed significantly with changes in the production factors, as measured by the extracted binder rheological properties. Also, the properties of the effective binder showed a direct control of the mixture performance as measured by the IDT-HT strength and the flexibility index obtained from the SCB test. Binder selection limits were developed for lab-produced WMA-RAP mixtures based on the Glover-Rowe parameter. Finally, a validation study was conducted using data from four different projects, including a field project in Texas, FHWA’s accelerated loading facility, a laboratory mixture study in Wisconsin, and a New Hampshire DOT study to confirm the refine the findings of this study. / Civil Engineering

Vlastnosti nízkoteplotních polymerem modifikovaných asfaltů / Properties of polymer modified bitumen for warm mix asphalt

Zábranský, Ivo January 2019 (has links)
The Diploma thesis is focus on polymer modified bitumen for warm mix asphalt. The theoretical part of the thesis describes additives which influence the properties of bitumen for their use and reduction of production and service temperatures. Further, the theoretical part describes the conclusions from the researches. This part also describes empirical and functional tests of bituminous binders. The practical part presents the results of individual tests. Tests were performed on samples of non-aged, aged by RTFOT and RTFOT + PAV methods. The results of the work and the assessment of the suitability of bituminous binders are summarized at the end of the thesis.

Využití pěnoasfaltu v asfaltových směsích / Usage of foam bitumens in asphalt mixtures

Venclíková, Michaela January 2018 (has links)
In this diploma thesis there are described the issues use of foamed bitumen as binder in asphalt mixtures. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The aim of theoretical part was to elaborate an overview of technologies, which allow to reduce the temperature during the production and laying of asphalt mixtures. The aim of the practical part was to compare the selected empirical and functional parameters of two types of asphalt mixtures produced in two variants, with hot bitumen and foamed bitumen. Attention was paid mainly to stiffness and low temperature parameters.

Využití technologie pěnoasfaltu / Usage of foam bitumen technology

Machel, Ondřej January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the production of warm mix asphalts, using the foam bitumen technology. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the basic division of roadway constructions, particularly on warm mix asphalts. The aim of the practical part was to find out whether the produced asphalt mixture retains its functional properties when the operating temperature is reduced. For this purpose, two asphalt mixtures of the ACO 11+ type at operating temperature of 150 °C and reduced operating temperature of 130 °C were made. Functional tests and empirical and functional tests were carried out on the produced asphalt mixtures and the extracted bitumen binders respectively. In the conclusion of the thesis, the results of the tests are mutually compared.

Asfaltové směsi se zpěněným asfaltem / Foam asphalt mixtures

Brtníková, Tereza January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is mainly focused on methods for reducing the working temperature in the production of hot mix asphalt and the main reasons for this. Most attention is paid to the warm mix asphalt, mainly foam asphalt technology. In practical part are describes working procedures of individual tests on asphalt mixtures and recovered bitumen binders. The tests were performed on 3 types of ACO 11+, one was made with working temperature 160°C without foamed bitumen and the other two with foamed bitumen, one with working temperature 160°C and the second 140°C. Then were the results compared.
