Abstract: This thesis present new proposals for time dissemination systems, which were analyzed and implemented as complete solutions providing high resolution in radio links focusing in the requirements of the new geolocation system known as GEOLOCAL. The solutions found are useful for other applications equiring time synchronization. The work has been developed in different areas that include high precision counters; nanosecond resolutions clocks; radio links for time dissemination and measurements of distance; coded sequence generators for detection and identification of counting fields, digital jitter suppressors using samples averaging and clock synchronizers for quartz based oscillators. High precision counters have been investigated for the purpose to construct a high resolution clock. As a result it has been obtained a unique solution using delay lines with independent counters. This configuration allows the obtaining high count resolution with the use of low frequency reference oscillators, without increasing the system uncertainties due to interpolation non-linearity errors. The radio links were constructed with synchronous interface between the transmission and reception bases using FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) modulation. The measurements errors due to jitter in circuit propagation were minimized by calculating the average of samples taken every count set. In order to implement a low cost system, it has been developed an innovative clock synchronization technique between quartz oscillator elements to the type OCXO (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator). This synchronization technique produced stabilities equivalent to those obtained with rubidium-referred oscillators. The digital systems have been constructed using FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).

Röseler, Benjamin 12 January 2016 (has links) (PDF)

The importance's of the physical analogue clock in mediating learning of analogue clock time in Grade 4 learners

Metelerkamp, Roger Gregory January 2014 (has links)
My research topic concerns how learners use the analogue clock (as a human tool) to make meaning of clock time. This study is informed by a Vygotskian socio-cultural framework to learning and development based on the concept that human activities take place in cultural contexts and is mediated by tools. In this qualitative study I report on the learners meaning making of analogue clock time using the physical clock. This study was carried out at a South African primary school through an intervention programme after school. The research employed a case study method. It involved a purposeful sample of 4 learners (n=38) from the grade four class group based on their response to a baseline assessment task. The selected sample of learners included learners across the ability spectrum to gain rich insight into how learners make meaning of analogue clock time. Data collection and analysis was done through an interpretive approach. The video-taped interviews and intervention programme was my main instrument of data collection. Other research instruments included document analysis of responses to baseline assessment tasks. These research tools yielded the data collected and also allowed for triangulation. My research topic explored how the learners make meaning of analogue clock time. In particular the two-way movement of how the learners use the physical tool namely the analogue clock to develop meaning and how the clock mediates clock knowledge in return. The findings of the study suggest that learners’ find it difficult to conceptualise analogue clock symbols and signs, in particular, in Afrikaans the half hour concept, in relation to the two hands. The physical analogue clock is also important to support and extend clock knowledge in solving time-related problems. This shows the power of the analogue clock to mediate meaning making of clock time in young learners. Because of its potential to improve teaching and learning analogue clock time in primary school it is therefore recommended that the analogue clock time be further researched in South Africa.

Are Children Safe with Smart Watches? : Security Analysis and Ethical Hacking on Children’s Smart Watches / Är barn säkra med smarta klockor?

Tian, Yaqi January 2023 (has links)
There are more and more parents that are considering to purchase smart watches for their kids. The children’s smart watches on the market are usually equipped with many practical functions like the GPS positioning, the camera and the messaging. Among all the smart watches for children, the ones that can be connected via a mobile application called SeTracker are popular for the acceptable prices. These smart watches may have different brands although they come from the same manufacturer company and share the common service and database. The security of the mobile application is essential to the security of the products. But are they designed in a secure way? There were reports about vulnerabilities of the products previously. Unfortunately, the security requirements do not stop upon solving those vulnerabilities. In this project, it was found that the parents can track the kids and communicate with them through the mobile application, but their accounts might be logged on the attacker’s phone at the same time. And it is surprisingly easy to get the password of the users because it is stored in a local file using simple substitution cipher. There are other examples of insecure design in the products. Among them are the unlimited attempts to send and enter verification codes used for changing the password. It seems that the server does not have a complete logging and monitoring mechanism to prevent abnormal behaviors. The security analysis and penetration testing of this project would provide an example of the mobile hacking, and it will also raise a warning on the security of smart devices.

: A study of the Swiss watch industry and its value-creating factors

Lundgren, Sofia, Starke, Cecilia January 2017 (has links)
Background: Time is one of the oldest constructions created by humans and a phenomenon that humans always wanted to measure. This has been done by humans throughout all ages, using everything from sundials, astronomical watches to mechanical watches. In today's modern society, where people have constant access to displays showing the time, the Swiss watch industry continues to export for millions of Swiss francs and the demand does not seem to be affected. When time is neither the factor nor the reason why people are buying a watch, what is causing people to spend money on such a product? What types of values are essentially perceived and do they vary between consumers depending on their purpose of the watch? By examining factors within the different categories of value; the Social-, the Hedonistic- and Functional value, and by using two different types of consumers’, the authors have the intention to clarify which factors are of more or less value- creating. The study contributes to a mapping and dissemination of knowledge about which factors are the most value creating ones, not only regarding watches, but for the entire premium industry. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify which factors are important and of significance to consumers' perception of value in terms of premium products. As a case for investigating this issue, the authors have chosen the watch industry where they intend to investigate and determine which factors are of higher or lower importance to the consumer's perception of what has generated value-creation. Completion: The study has an interpretative approach and is a deductible study characterized by a qualitative approach. The empirical data has been collected through a convenience sample with elements of a target sample. A total of 9 interviews with private individuals have been conducted. Conclusion: The study shows that the value-creating factors vary depending on the consumer type and their purpose of the purchase. The reasons for how consumers perceive factors as value creating depend on what the consumer strives for, how committed the consumer is to the subject and the consumer’s background. The value-creating factors can also be put together and often constitute an increased value.
