Concurrent Validity of the Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning and the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Ability-Revised with a Neurologically Compromised Pediatric Population

Rochelle, Gary B. 12 1900 (has links)
The Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning (WRAML) is a relatively new instrument used in the assessment of memory in children. The purpose of this study was to examine the validity of the WRAML by comparing the performance of children on both the WRAML and the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Ability- Revised (WJTCA-R). Subjects for the study were children in treatment for a brain tumor at a regional children's medical center. Fifty children participated in the study ranging from ages 6 to 17. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine which of four selected clusters from the WJTCA-R would have the highest correlation with the Verbal Memory Index (VERI) from the WRAML. The Short-Term Memory (GSM) cluster had the highest correlation ( r = .82) as predicted. A Pearson's product-moment correlational analysis was conducted between the Visual Processing (GV) cluster from the WJTCA-R and the Visual Memory Index (VISI) from the WRAML. GV was found to have a high positive correlation ( r = .63) with VISI. A similar analysis was conducted between the Long-Term Retrieval (GLR) cluster from the WJTCA-R and the Learning Index (LRNI) from the WRAML. GLR was found to have a high positive correlation ( r = .81) with LRNI. Finally, a correlational analysis was conducted between the Broad Cognitive Ability (BCA) scale from the WJTCA-R and the General Memory Index (GENI) from the WRAML. A high positive correlation ( r = .87) was found between these most global measures from the two batteries. The observed correlation between BCA and GENI was much higher than anticipated. The author concluded that neurological impairment had affected subject memory and intellectual functioning in similar ways. The results do not generalize to children who have not had similar decrements in cognitive functioning. Future research should establish a baseline correlation between the two instruments with a non-impaired population.

A Confirmatory Factor Analysis of WRAML Scores in a Group of Academically Talented Students

Johnson, Patricia R. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to confirm the original factor structure of the Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning (WRAML) utilizing a non-clinical adolescent population. Additional analysis examined the relationship between SAT-M scores and spatial relations ability. Exploratory analyses were conducted to determine ethnic and gender differences on the WRAML and subtests from the DAT. Sixty-four academically talented adolescents completed the WRAML and the mechanical reasoning and spatial relations subtests from the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT). The confirmatory factor analysis found the data obtained to not be a good fit for the factor structure of the WRAML (Sheslow & Adams, 1990). Additional confirmatory analyses were conducted which examined data fit of a three factor model found by reanalyzing the standardization data (Burton et al., 1996; Wasserman & Cambias, 1991) as well as two null models. The data failed to fit any of these three models. No support was found for the second hypothesis that predicted a positive relationship between SAT-M scores and spatial relations ability. Ethnic and gender differences on the WRAML and two DAT subtests were examined and discussed. Limitations of this study were reviewed which may have accounted for the overall lack of results.

Conversion DC/DC large plage pour application embarquée dans un environnement ferroviaire / Wide range DC/DC conversion for embedded applications in railway applications

Larousse, Sébastien 07 December 2016 (has links)
The need for a stabilized power supply and the variability of the power sources make the power converters unavoidable. In embedded applications, the power conversion, mostly DC/DC conversion, must sustain various constraints due to their environment, airborne or in ground vehicles. Devices for railway applications endure severe constraint on their volume and immunity to vibration. Thus, they have to be built without any mobile part including fans, and to be as small as possible to minimize their impact on the payload capacity of the trains. The most specific constraint in railway application is the wide input voltage range sustained by the power converter. This voltage range, from 12 V to 154 V, is due to the large amount of electric standards worldwide. This characteristic is the main challenge for the design of compact DC/DC converters. In this thesis, in a first time the current converters topologies are analysed under the scope of our specifications. Then, the two most relevant structures are more deeply studied. Behavioural simulations and loss models are described, leading to the confirmation of their relevancy and the study of their lacks. In the last two chapters of this thesis, the sizing strategies used to fit our specifications are described. Then, the control techniques elaborated to meet the specificities of our application are described then tested on prototypes. The measurements made on the prototypes have confirmed the gain due to these control techniques and the sizing strategies previously described. These improvements have led to significant improvements in the performance of the converters and in the volume reduction of their passive elements

MODELOVANIE SYSTÉMOV VENTILÁTOR - CHLADIČ V HERMETICKEJ ZÓNE JADROVÝCH BLOKOV VVER 440 V213 / The Modeling of the Fan-Cooler Systems of the Containment VVER 440 V213 NPP

Baláž, Jozef January 2013 (has links)
The topic of the thesis regards of problems of compilation the model of existing fan-cooler systems of VVER440/V213 NPP. These systems can be operated not only normal operation conditions but also during abnormal and accidental operation of the plant, which are significantly different from those operating conditions for which were systems dedicated and designed. An advanced model, compiled as one of the subjects of this thesis, capable to predict behaviour of these systems during accidental conditions of the plant, is described within this paper. The advanced model is a part of LEAKBOX model. LEAKBOX model represents a superordinated program dedicated to modelling overall VVER 440/V213 containment response during accidental conditions of the plant focusing onto small coolant leakage in to the containment.
