Subjects: This diploma thesis is dedicated to the topic of time management in nursing - it deals with four generations of time management and with its different techniques. Furthermore it describes functions and roles of a manager. Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to analyse time management issues that concern nurse managers working in intensive care. The main goal of the research is to answer following question: How do nurse managers in intensive care use and organise their working time? Secondary goals are: to name priorities of nurse managers on an ordinary working day, to find out which timekeeping devices do nurse managers use for direct measuring of time consumption, to analyze managerial strategies used by nurse managers for their time management, to sum up the most frequent tasks postponed by nurse managers for a later time and find the reasons of procrastination. Methodology: Data were gained through a combined quantitative and qualitative research design. Quantitative research was done through the use of a time frame of a working day and a working week of nurse managers. Results were presented in boxes and charts to provide a better overview. The theme is justified because mobile technologies, which are at the core of a technological revolution that has caused major impacts on the personal and professional lives of individuals, have received little attention in the field of Communications in Brazil and from theoreticians of postmodernity. The main questions comprising the research problem were: Do companies really achieve gains in productivity through these technologies? What is the highest level (if such a limit exists) of productivity that corporations seek? Do companies and/or professionals feel any concern or unease about this question? To what extent do resources such as permanent connections and sophisticated hardware, allied to the pressure for higher productivity, eliminate or attenuate the boundaries between personal life, work and leisure? Do companies and/or professionals consider this lack of boundaries beneficial or harmful? Does this scenario encompass any form of violence? Is there awareness or reflection about it? The theoretical fundaments underpinning the thesis included the theory of sociodromology (Virilio and Trivinho) and the sociology and psychology of work (Antunes, Bourdieu and Dejours) as well as theories of postmodernity that underpin discussions about how machines have usurped man s place at the center of existence. The methodology adopted here consisted of a survey, registration and review of the selected bibliography and of theoretical and epistemological reflections about the subject of the study. Among the main conclusions of this research is the verification/validation of the hypothesis of the consolidation of mobile technologies as the main protagonists of human life, offering professionals not only benefits such as enhanced information flows, help in performing tasks, and rapid contact with their superiors, peers and families, etc. but also drawbacks such as the invasion of work into personal life and a hidden, unquantifiable and unpaid increase in working hours, as well as physical and emotional stress. Wireless communications in real time have undoubtedly benefited companies in terms of increased productivity. However, their introduction into the daily life of workers has generally been unplanned, without studies or reflections about their negative impact on people s quality of life / A presente Tese de Doutorado, de caráter exclusivamente teórico, foca a utilização, no ambiente corporativo, de tecnologias móveis com recursos de voz, dados e acesso à rede mundial, como celulares, personal digital assistants (PDAs) e notebooks, e as implicações do crescente uso dessas tecnologias na vida dos usuários. O tema se justifica porque as tecnologias móveis, em que pese estarem no cerne de uma revolução tecnológica que promove impactos importantes nas esferas pessoal e profissional dos indivíduos, têm recebido pouca atenção no campo da Comunicação no Brasil e entre os teóricos da pós-modernidade. As principais indagações que configuraram o problema de pesquisa foram as seguintes: as empresas realmente obtêm ganhos de produtividade com essas tecnologias? qual o limite máximo (se há limite) da produtividade buscada pelas corporações? há entre as empresas e/ou profissionais preocupação ou desconforto quanto a essa questão? até que ponto recursos como conexão permanente e sofisticação de equipamentos, somados à pressão por maior produtividade, eliminam ou atenuam as fronteiras entre vida pessoal e trabalho? isso é visto pela empresa e/ou profissional como benefício ou prejuízo? há alguma forma de violência nesse cenário? há consciência ou reflexão sobre isso? O quadro teórico para fundamentação da Tese incluiu a teoria sociodromológica (Virilio e Trivinho) e a sociologia e psicologia do trabalho (Antunes, Bourdieu e Dejours), além de teorias sobre pós-modernismo que embasam discussões sobre como a máquina tomou o lugar do ser humano no centro da existência. A metodologia adotada consistiu de levantamento, fichamento e revisão da bibliografia selecionada, bem como reflexões teóricas e epistemológicas sobre o objeto de estudo. Entre as principais conclusões de pesquisa está a checagem/validação da hipótese da consolidação das tecnologias móveis como protagonistas da vida humana, que trazem não apenas benefícios para os profissionais, entre os quais incremento do fluxo de informações, auxílio na execução de tarefas e contato rápido com superiores, colegas e familiares, mas também prejuízos, como a invasão do trabalho em sua vida pessoal e aumento camuflado, inquantificável e não-remunerado da jornada profissional, além de transtornos emocionais e físicos. nÃo hà / Neste trabalho analisamos o tempo como categoria privilegiada de estudo do sujeito e da sociedade; objetivando analisar sua aÃÃo como solvente social quando se apresenta nas novas configuraÃÃes entre tempo e trabalho na contemporaneidade, empregamos uma anÃlise teÃrica da categoria tempo e as novas formas que se apresenta na contemporaneidade laboral. Para isso, delimitamos alguns campos de estudo onde a temporalidade se inseriu, transitando pela Filosofia, FÃsica, Biologia e Sociologia, partindo destes estudamos o Tempo do trabalho, o Tempo liberado e o Tempo do Ãcio. Com base nesses estudos, delimitamos alguns campos de estudo da temporalidade por parte da Psicologia para finalmente nos determos na questÃo da temporalidade para a PsicanÃlise. Uma vez delimitada a temporalidade subjetiva, pudemos buscar a interface entre esta e o mundo, encontrando uma temporalidade marcada pela mediaÃÃo social. à neste contexto que verificamos o tempo agindo em conjunto com o trabalho, formando uma das categorias que funcionam como cola social. Analisando as novas configuraÃÃes que a temporalidade laboral assumiu, apÃs o trabalho se tornar categoria social predominante, verificamos que ele pode perder sua caracterÃstica de cola ampla da sociedade e se apresentar como um solvente social em alguns grupamentos sociais e fortificando os laÃos em outros, auxiliando assim na formaÃÃo de guetos temporais ligados ao trabalho. / In this paper, we analyzed the time as a privilege category of subject and society study; aiming to analyze its action as a social solvent when presents itself in the new configurations between time and work in contemporaneity, we performed a theoretical analysis of time category and its new ways of presenting itself in work contemporaneity. Thereunto, we delimitated a few study fields where temporality inserted itself as category, as of Philosophy, Physics, Biology and Sociology, we studied the work Time, the free Time and the leisure Time. Based on these studies, we delimitated a few Psychology study fields of temporality, so we can finally focus in the temporality issue for Psychoanalysis. Once the subjective temporality was delimitated, we could search for the interface between it and the world, finding a temporality marked by social mediation. In this context, we verified the time acting with the work, forming one of the categories which works as social glue. Analyzing the new configurations admitted by the labor temporality, after the work has become predominant social category, we verified that it can lose its society wide glue characteristic and present itself as a social solvent in a few social groups, fortifying other groupsâ attachments, helping, thereby, in time ghettos formation related to work.

Le droit à la réparation des lésions professionnelles des travailleurs soumis à une obligation de disponibilité : une analyse jurisprudentielle longitudinale

L’obligation de disponibilité du travailleur met en lumière un temps durant lequel le travailleur demeure à la disposition de son employeur malgré le fait qu’il n’accomplit pas concrètement sa prestation de travail, le temps de disponibilité. Conséquence de plusieurs phénomènes, notamment la mondialisation des marchés, la financiarisation de l’économie et l’essor des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication, l’obligation de disponibilité est mal définie par les règles juridiques actuelles au Québec. Considérant cet état du droit, notre mémoire cherche à évaluer dans quelle mesure la Loi sur les accidents du travail et les maladies professionnelles capte l’obligation de disponibilité du travailleur. Pour ce faire, nous avons effectué une analyse quantitative et qualitative de la jurisprudence rendue par la Commission d’appel en matière de lésions professionnelles et la Commission des lésions professionnelles entre 1995 et 2014. Notre mémoire comporte trois volets. Sous un angle plus sociologique, nous voulions examiner si notre population de décisions nous permettait, d’une part, de constituer différentes manifestations-types de l’obligation de disponibilité et d’autre part, de discerner une progression dans le temps du nombre de décisions portant sur une obligation de disponibilité. Enfin, nous désirions examiner dans quelle mesure un travailleur victime d’une lésion durant une période de disponibilité peut se prévaloir des droits accordés par la L.a.t.m.p.. À l’aune de notre mémoire, plusieurs manifestations-types de l’obligation de disponibilité peuvent être en constituées en fonction du moment durant lequel elle se manifeste. L’obligation de disponibilité peut également être rattachée au statut de travailleur autonome. En outre, il semble que la reconnaissance de la lésion professionnelle du travailleur varie en fonction de ces manifestations-types. Cependant, nos résultats ne révèlent pas une progression dans le temps du nombre de décisions portant sur une obligation de disponibilité. / The concept of worker availability requirements refers to instances in which workers are required to be available to their employers outside of standard work hours (off-duty). Due to several factors, especially the internationalization of markets, financialisation of the economy, and the development of information and communication technology, this normative requirement is inadequately regulated by current legislation in Quebec. Therefore, our research evaluates the extent that the Loi sur les accidents du travail et les maladies professionnelles addresses availability requirements imposed on workers in the province. To this end, we carried out qualitative and quantitative analyses of decisions made by the Commission d’appel en matière de lésions professionnelles and Commission des lésions professionnelles between 1995 and 2014. From a sociological perspective, we attempted to produce different categories of off-duty availability requirements, and to discern whether an augmentation in the number of decisions concerning availability requirements has taken place over time. Finally, we examined the extent that workers benefit from the rights provided by the L.a.t.m.p. when injuries occur during off-duty hours in which workers are required to be available. Our results demonstrate that many categories of availability requirements can be developed related to the period of time during when such obligation occurs. Furthermore, these requirements are also linked to individuals’ status as self-employed workers. Finally, it seems that the recognition of workers’ employment injuries vary along these categories. However, our results also suggest that there exists no positive trend in the number of decisions concerning worker availability requirements over time.
