“I just want them to feel safe, unfortunately, it’s not always as easy as it sounds” : - A qualitative study highlighting the experience of working in accommodations for unaccompanied refugee minors

Segerberg, Fredrik January 2016 (has links)
In the last couple of years there has been an immense increase in the number of unaccompanied refuge minors seeking asylum in Sweden. These minors share one thing in common; they have all abandoned things they hold dear in pursuit of a better life. The majority of them are placed into residential care homes, accommodations where they are aided and cared for by personnel. Unfortunately, there is a lack of research regarding how these personnel experience their work. With help of the method grounded theory and interviews, I investigate their working situation and their role in these homes. All participants agree that their primary role and task are to establish a feeling of safety amongst the minors, however, organizational aspects can hinder this process. Organizational aspects are also key factors that have to be adequate in order for the personnel to increase their professional knowledge. By including the framework resilience therapy and comparing this to my result, I put my study in a bigger context, suggesting that if the minors are capable of feeling safe, they will also develop skills that increase their wellbeing throughout their lives.

Våldsutsatta vuxna kvinnors upplevelser av att möta hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal : En litteraturstudie / Abused adult women’s experiences of meeting healthcare professionals : A literature review

Ekblom, Fia, Nigelius, Frida January 2022 (has links)
Background: Intimate partner violence against women is a public health problem, both globally and in Sweden. Healthcare is considered to be that instance were abused women primarily seeks help. This means that nurses, regardless of workplace, probably will meet abused women. To be able to respond and provide person-centered care and a feeling of safety, it is important to illustrate how the abused woman experiences the encounter with healthcare professionals. Aim: Identify how abused adult women experiences the meeting with healthcare professionals. Method: A general literature study in which 10 articles were examined and analyzed with a thematic analysis. Result: Feelings of beeing diminished and not taken seriously were identified. Feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment were increased by the actions of healthcare professionals. This contributed to women hesitating or refraining from seeking help. Many women felt that the focus was on treating physical injuries, while their mental health was prioritized secondarily. Women stated that helathcare did not ask them about domestic violence. It was important that the question was asked in the right way and at the right time. Conclusion: Abused women experience deficiencies in meeting with healthcare professionals. With their treatment, nurses and other healthcare professionals can create a better experience of care for these women.

Pocit bezpečí a obavy z kriminality v České republice / Feeling of Safety and Fear of Crime in the Czech Republic

Krulichová, Eva January 2016 (has links)
The research on feeling of safety and fear of crime abroad has been developed since 70s of the 20th century. In the Czech Republic it became of interest at the beginning of 90s after the fall of the communist regime, while the discrepancy between actually committed and formally registered offences resulting in the sharp increase of officially recorded crime manifested itself. In response to this increase there were written first scientific studies, which mainly dealt with the development of feeling of safety and models explaining such feeling in the context of former social problems (economic stress, trust in the government). In our opinion, however, we lack a comprehensive study that discusses the feeling of safety and fear of crime phenomenon from different aspects and intend to verify the validity of the results of international studies in our milieu. Based on the existing theoretical approaches and selected data sources, the study therefore aims to illuminate the structure of the relationship between fear of crime and individual or social factors that correlate with it. The study particularly deals with the relationship between perceived risk of victimization and fear of crime, i.e. concepts that were often used interchangeably at the beginning of research in this area. The analysis has showed...

Mashev, Todor 01 1900 (has links)
For a long time, the feeling of safety has been a subject matter of interest to social scientists. Applied in prisons, this phenomenon is not much studied. Different studies have come to inconsistent results with respect to factors related to insecurity. The different ways of conceptualizing and measuring this phenomenon often appear as a cause of the inconsistency of the results. The present study aims to deepen general knowledge about the insecurity sentiment and present the following specific objectives: (1) provide a quantitative picture of the feeling of safety, taking into account its emotional, cognitive and behavioral dimensions; (2) estimate the victimization rate in Canadian penitentiaries in Quebec; (3) analyse the different factors that are related to the different dimensions of feeling of safety; (4) analyse the interrelation between the different dimensions of the feeling of safety. To achieve these objectives, data from 293 inmates held in ten Quebec prisons were analyzed. Descriptive analyses were used to document the insecurity of prisoners taking into account various dimensions. Bivariate and multivariate analyses have permitted to identify the individual and contextual factors that are significantly associated with the different dimensions of insecurity. Hierarchical regression models were used to verify the interrelation between the different dimensions of feeling of safety, taking into account the influence of other factors. The results showed a level of insecurity that is low and variable among the prison population, and also that the different dimensions of insecurity were affected by various factors and were partially interconnected.
