Managing Integration and Immigration : Impellent Question of the European UnionLadygina, Olga, Kharchuk, Borys January 2008 (has links)
The Immigration issue was, during quite long period of time, a disputable concern within the European territory. European countries, as many others, require a certain degree of qualified immigration, due to developments of the labour market. Along with the issues of immigration and migration, the matter of immigrant’s integration is becoming the focus point of consideration for the European Union as a whole, its single Member States and various other international organizations. The matter of integration has been imbedded in immigration policies because of the discovery that migration of labour throughout Europe, which was considered to be an interim feature for EU’s Member States, has transformed to the permanent one. Another reason is the fear that badly integrated immigrants might become an extraordinary problem for the population’s majority.

A Comparative Study of Second-Generation Palestinian Swedes in Cultural TransitionEl Hachem, Hussein January 2024 (has links)
This research explores the experiences of second-generation Palestinians in Sweden. It assesses the dynamics of identity negotiation within a multicultural context. While employing a qualitative approach, the study focuses on ten participants' acculturation strategies, linguistic competencies, coping mechanisms, and societal perceptions. The findings show a spectrum of strategies, from integrative approaches that embrace the two cultures to assimilation tendencies aligning with Swedish norms. Language proficiency is crucial to social integration and employment opportunities. It demonstrates the relationship between linguistic skills and socioeconomic advantages. Coping strategies include active engagement in cultural events, language maintenance, and seeking support from the Palestinian community. They demonstrate the resilience and creativity shown by individuals navigating dual identities. The study also exposes the emotional toll of perpetually being perceived as outsiders and emphasizes the urgent need for inclusive societal attitudes. Through thematic analysis, the research contributes a comprehensive understanding of the challenges, coping mechanisms, and societal implications inherent in the identity formation of the second-generation population.

Sociální integrace pracujících Čechů a Slováků na Taiwanu / Social integration of Czechs and Slovaks working in TaiwanKovářová, Martina January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is focused on providing a thorough insight into the process of integration of Czechs and Slovacs working in Taiwan in 4 dimensions of integration (structural, cultural, interactive, identificational) from the point of view of the migrants themselves and considering the psychological aspects as well. Another aim is to identify determinants possibly facilitating the whole process, and related obstacles, too. To meet the aims of the thesis, a qualitative research has been conducted on the basis of semi-structured interviews. Twelve interviewees took part in these interviews. The findings from the interviews suggest for example that despite participation in the labour market, the nature of their work experience was sometimes illegal, and therefore problematic. Survey also suggests related key obstacles of their integration process such as language barrier and cultural differences. Attitude of the majority society, access to institutional system and social networks were rather contributory factors.
