An Analysis of Factors That Impact Teacher Morale Within The Learning Setting of Two Independent Public Charter SchoolsRives, Bronvia 20 May 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to analyze select factors that impact teacher morale within the learning setting of two independent public charter schools by focusing on teacher autonomy, teacher evaluation, teacher resource support, teacher collegiality, and teachers’ perception of administrative leadership styles. The findings of this study will inform both local and national leaders in regards to variables that affect teacher morale; and thus, teacher shortage. Furthermore, this will provide guidance for current trending methods of teacher retention, which will improve the performance of advantage and disadvantage schools alike. Quantitative data points were the primarily source used to synthesize and compile data to identify emergent themes. The findings of this study concluded that there were moderate positive significant relationships between teacher morale and teacher evaluation; teacher morale and teacher autonomy; teacher morale and teachers’ perception of administrative leadership style within an independent public charter school setting.

IMPROVING ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN HIGH SCHOOLS ¡MEJORÁNDONOS!Cooper, Elizabeth, 0000-0003-0194-0072 January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to investigate factors that influence academic achievement in high school. This study gathered data directly from high school students themselves. This research study utilized a mixed-methods design by blending quantitative analysis from survey data and qualitative analysis from in-depth interviews. The data collected in this study drew from students in three different high schools in the greater Philadelphia area and one high school in located in Harrisburg, PA. In total, 44 high school students responded to the survey and five students volunteered to participate in a follow-up interview.The research uncovered factors that influenced student educational aspirations such as parental influence, the student’s self-efficacy, and involvement in school activities. Most interestingly, the findings revealed that on average, the percentage of female students with aspirations for a higher educational degree (such as a M.D., J.D., or Ph.D.) was greater than males. On a percentage basis, a greater number of males aspired to attain a college degree than females. Additionally, the data also determined that as the number of proximal personnel that support the student’s attainment of a college degree increases by one, the student’s educational aspirations also increased by one year beyond high school, as well. The research findings also highlighted the importance of administrator visibility as a factor that positively impacted student success. In addition to uncovering key influences that impact student achievement, this research sought direct reflection from high school students about their perceptions of academic success. Lastly, a small but important part of this research was devoted to investigating how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted student’s educational experience. It is hoped that the findings from this study can be harnessed to inform educational leaders. / Educational Leadership

The Refinement of a Policy-Capturing Model Used in the Selection of Administrative InternsStanley, Billie Joe 12 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study is to refine the "policy-capturing" model used in the selection process of interns for the Administrative Leadership Training Program in a large metropolitan school district. The subjects for this study consisted of 416 candidates over a three-year period. The statistical procedure of multiple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis that it would be possible to model the decision-making process so that the predictive value would be 90 per cent or higher. During the refinement process, the unique contribution of variance accounted for by each predictor variable was examined,and interactions between certain variables were tested. Two refined models were formulatedand the predictive value of each was calculated. The predictive values of all the models were less than 90 per cent; therefore, the hypothesis was rejected.

Texas Public School District Legal Costs and Preventive Law PracticesZollars, Mary Catherine 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to compare the legal costs of Texas public school districts during the school years 1980-81, 1981-82, and 1982-83 with the preventive law practices utilized by those districts. A survey was made of Texas superintendents' knowledge of school law. The data were contrasted with legal costs and the preventive law practices of the district. Two survey instruments were developed, and the case study approach was utilized. A survey was sent to the 1,101 Texas public school superintendents. The twenty-five item instrument was designed to solicit information regarding the amount of money spent by districts and the types of preventive law practices that school districts use to reduce legal costs. A legal awareness questionnaire was developed and administered to 72 of the 542 superintendents who responded to the first survey instrument. Three school districts were selected to be case study sites. The data from the instruments were analyzed to determine if a relationship existed between a district's legal costs and its preventive law practices, a district's legal costs and the superintendent's knowledge of school law, and a superintendent's knowledge of school law and the district's preventive law practices. The major conclusions of the study were as follows: (1) The larger the school district, the more money the district spends on legal costs. (2) Districts that incorporate preventive law activities do not necessarily have lower legal costs. (3) The differences in legal costs of a district and the types of preventive law activities utilized by the district are generally associated with district size, rather than with the absence of presence of the specific preventive law activity. (4) The legal knowledge possessed by the superintendent does not have an impact on the legal costs of the district. (5) The superintendent's knowledge of school law does not affect the number of preventive law activities used in the district.

Knowledge management (KM) has been cited as a strategic asset and a source of competitive advantage for organisations. While the issues of KM have been widely discussed by many researchers, there is a paucity of studies pertaining to the role of KM in enhancing organisational performance, especially in the banking sector. The focus of this research was to investigate the role of KM in enhancing organisational performance in selected banks of South Africa. The objective was to find out how knowledge was identified, captured, organised and retained in order to enhance performance of the banks. There is uncertainty about whether the use of KM could partly solve the banks‟ approaches to improving their quality of service to their communities in the modern information environment. Though KM has been implemented in commercial and business environments towards operational advantages and financial gains, KM survival principles and tools might help South African banks improve performance and fulfil their mandate. Knowledge, when properly managed, can significantly enhance an organisation‟s performance. The research design that was used in this study was an embedded case study design. Quantitative data were collected from a sample of middle level managers with the aid of a survey whilst interviews and document analysis were used to collect qualitative data. The findings of this study indicated that KM concepts were not universally understood at selected banks. The findings showed that collaboration between banks and the communities in creating a meaningful and relevant knowledge environment was essential for the survival of organisations. The banking industry practices were not deliberately based on KM but the study established that they were amenable to KM practices. The recommendation was to perform a knowledge inventory which could help develop appropriate institution-wide policies and practices for proper and well-organised methods of integrating work processes, collaborating and sharing (including the efficient use of knowledge technology platforms), and developing an enabling institutional culture. / Psychology / Ph.
