[en] A HUB LOCATION STUDY IN THE BRAZILIAN CARGO AIR TRANSPORTATION / [pt] UM ESTUDO DE LOCALIZAÇÃO DE HUBS NO TRANSPORTE AÉREO DE CARGAS BRASILEIRO

RAFAEL MESQUITA A DE FIGUEIREDO 24 April 2006 (has links)
[en] The changes in air transportation regulation implemented in the last two decades, brought both a challenge and a stimulus to the merchandise distribution systems, with a sizable increase in the transported volumes and a reduction in travelled distances. As a consequence, competition imposes more efficiency to the air companies. The cargo consolidation points in the transport network, the hub, are a definite requirement for cost reduction and optimization of their operational assets. The present research has collected data in Departamento de Aviação Civil (DAC) about the 32 Brazilian cargo airports as well as its aggregation among the five geographic regions of the country. The aggregated formulation was used as a test for a future study including all airports. The pilot application avoids the use of an optimization model but rather, using an Excel software, makes total enumeration of all alternatives to find a single hub proposal.

Fluglärmbelastung und Immobilien

Thießen, Friedrich 23 September 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The development of several airports in Germany as well as the introduction of new flight routes is a strain on most citizens. The change in value of real estate property is widely acknowledged as the general quantitative indicator of the consequences of noise pollution and congestion. In recent years new research on the effects of noise pollution has signified a turning point. Internet portals such as the German Immobilienscout 24 made available new data sources for possible investigation. Evaluation of this data was carried out in four new studies. This paper presents the results of these data analyses. The most important findings are: Older literature findings can be confirmed regarding the NSDI (Noise Sensitivity Depreciation Index). Values of 0.7 to 1.2 can be verified. Flight routes provoke a depreciation in value of real estate. The impairment loss is roughly 100 Euro/m² of living area per kilometer distance to the nearest flight route center (3% of the real estate value). Such depreciation in value reacts to the intensity of the public discourse. Over- and undershooting effects have been found. The depreciation due to newly introduced flight routes is larger than the appreciation due to terminated old flight routes.

Spolupráce leteckých dopravců / Cooperation amongst Air Carriers

Huňak, James January 2014 (has links)
The thesis deals with the issue of cooperation amongst air carriers. There are mentioned several forms of cooperation in this field: bilateral agreements, global airline alliances and also very specific and current ways of cooperation which are mergers and acquisitions. The last mentioned forms are illustrated on specific examples of important European airlines which decided to improve their competitiveness by joining other air carrier or acquiring relevant stake in other airline. The trend of concentration in the aviation area has naturally affected Czech air transport market as well; therefore this thesis includes a separate chapter concerning acquisition of Czech Airlines by Korean Air which bought a 44 % stake in Czech flag air carrier. There are analyzed in detail the main impacts of the transaction from different points of view, including potential synergistic effects resulting from the cooperation. The thesis also deals with the recently established cooperation between Czech Airlines and its rival airline Travel Service which plans to buy a 34 % stake in Czech national airline and to become its legitimate shareholder besides Korean Air. The thesis includes an analysis of cooperation with this company as well.

The relationship between South African aviation policy in Africa and air passenger traffic flows

Surovitskikh, Svetlana 21 February 2013 (has links)
International air transport has been one of the most highly regulated and restrictive industries in the world, governed by bilateral air services agreements (BASAs). More recently progressive liberalisation, through the gradual removal of regulatory restrictions, has taken place in major air markets of the world. In Africa, more than a decade ago, African leaders agreed to liberalise the intra-African aviation market through the Yamoussoukro Decision (YD) of 2000 but its full potential across the Continent has not yet been realised. Many studies worldwide have been done on air liberalisation and its impact on air traffic flows but very few include Africa. This study focuses on the impact on air passenger traffic flows of South Africa’s aviation policy in Africa by investigating the link between South Africa’s aviation policy, as reflected in the design of its BASAs, and air passenger traffic flows over an 11 year period (2000 to 2010). A mixed research methodology was followed. Qualitatively, a two-round Delphi technique was employed to determine the views of aviation experts from academia, the public and private sectors, on features of BASAs, as well as those unrelated to BASAs, that have an influence on air passenger traffic flows between country-pairs in Africa. Twenty-five BASA features and 48 non-BASA factors were identified from which a conceptual framework was formulated. The quantitative phase aimed at estimating and statistically quantifying the impact of the degree of restrictiveness or liberalisation of the respective BASAs, as measured by four variants of the Air Liberalisation Index (ALI): STD, 5th+, DES+ and OWN+. It also aimed at identifying which specific provisions of BASAs had the most significant impact on air passenger traffic flows. A fixed one-way panel regression technique was applied to the selected 11 year panel data set of 42 African countries, representing five markets: intra- African; the SADC; West African; East African and North African. A number of other predictors were also identified which meant that the impact of the aviation policy on air passenger traffic flows could not be tested in isolation: the degree of liberalisation of the policy as measured by the ALI; the number of years BASAs have been in place; GDP; the presence of a low-income country; the magnitude of services trade flows; and population size. The simultaneous impact of the six predictors was tested in each of the five markets with the various markets showing different predictors as being statistically significant. In the intra-African and SADC regional markets these were Trade, ALI and GDP; in the East African market Low Income, Trade, ALI and Population but in the North African market only GDP. Where the impact of the aviation policy was found to be significant, individual provisions such as fifth freedom traffic rights, capacity, designation and cooperative arrangements were tested for their impact on air passenger traffic over two time periods: 2000 – 2010 and 2006 – 2010. These also proved to be significantly different for the various regions. The results of this research provide new insights into the relationship between air passenger traffic flows and aviation policy in the South African – intra-African and regional contexts. The research technique used in the South African – intra-African market expands on the established cross-sectional 2005 QUASAR database, laying a foundation for similar studies in other regions where impact of policy over time can be established. / Thesis (DCom)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Tourism Management / unrestricted
