No. of bitstreams: 1 Stephania Katurchi Mendes Melo.pdf: 1187610 bytes, checksum: 9fc3970b302b2400856fd789beec3ea9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-01-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This study aimed to evaluate the effects of administration of different doses of omeprazole on biomarkers of glycemic index and digestion in horses healthy. There were four females Pure Arab, free of gastric ulcers, assigned to four treatments in a 4x4 factorial. The treatments were: control (CONT), omeprazole "bolus" (OMPZBOLUS), omeprazole 4mg/kg (OMPZ4MG/KG) and omeprazole 1 mg/kg (OMPZ1MG/KG). The treatment control and OMPZBOLUS animals received 5,0 ml of water and 4 mg/kg of omeprazole, respectively, orally at a single dose on the day before the blood collection. Already in treatments OMPZ4MG/KG and OMPZ1MG/KG animals were treated for 11 days in the afternoon before feeding the concentrate. All treatments were performed 16 hours before feeding schedule morning (08:00 h). The period of "wash-out" between one and another treatment was 30 days. After 12 hours fasting, blood samples were collected from all animals (T1). The animals were then supplemented with concentrate and further blood samples were taken after 30 minutes (T2), 1,0 h (T3), 1,5 h (T4), 2,0 (T5), 3,0 h (T6), 4,0 h (T7), 5,0 h (T8), 6,0 h (T9) and 7,0 h (T10). All blood samples were tested for the following analyzes: total plasma protein (PPT), glucose (GLU), urea (URE), creatinine (CREAT), uric acid (AcUr), cholesterol (COLE), triglycerides (TRIG) calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P) and magnesium (Mg). The results show significant differences between treatments for URE, COLE, AcUr, Ca, between phases for GLIC, and between stage and treatment for CREAT, TRIG, P, Mg, however PPT to no difference between treatment and phase. In all treatments there was no interaction between stage and treatment. The administration of different doses of omeprazole alters the concentration of the biomarkers associated with protein metabolism in the blood of healthy horses.
