Application of Synthetic Aperture Radar with Wi-Fi for Indoor LocalizationNafi, Kawser Wazed January 2016 (has links)
Indoor localization is the process of localizing people or objects inside a building in the same way GPS does in an outside environment. In recent years, researchers have successfully achieved improvement in indoor localization accuracy. Still there are many limitations to overcome in performing and achieving good accuracy in indoor localization. The interest in estimating the location of something inside a building with good accuracy is very strong. In this thesis we first propose an indoor localization technique relative to Wi-Fi access points along with a novel heuristic search based algorithm, named MuSLoc. Through simulation and comparative studies, we have shown that MuSLoc outperforms other indoor localization models without the help of fingerprinting or crowdsourcing about the environment. MuSLoc provides almost the same accuracy in LOS (Line of Sight) and NLOS (Non-Line of Sight) environments with regular infrastructure that has recently been provided by smart phones. This model doesn't require any additional hardware support in order to perform well.
Further, we propose another indoor localization based Wi-Fi device tracker model, named MSTracker, which is able to track both moving and non-moving devices inside a building. This model is also free from specialized infrastructure and can perform well without any training data information. Through real time simulation and analysis we have shown that it performs more accurately than other available models.
Through extensive simulations in a real time environment and analysis of performance comparatives with other available models, we have shown that both MuSLoc and MSTracker perform more accurately with COTS than any other method of indoor localization and tracking of objects inside a building. The complete package of MuSLoc and MSTracker can perform perfectly with recently available Wi-Fi modules and smartphones.

This thesis considers the feasibility of using the electromagnetic techniques to monitor the wear of the refractory base of a glass-making furnace. The research focuses in building a system that is able to provide measurements of the distance to the molten glass in this demanding high temperature application. The main challenge in this project is to eliminate the effect of the refractory supporting steel structure and still be able to detect and exploit a much smaller signal from the molten glass. In order to differentiate between the molten glass and the steel supports, a multi-coil, multi-frequency technique was proposed, studied and implemented in this research.

of the projectile transfers energy to the partner nucleus (and vice-versa)
through a time-dependent electromagnetic field. At energies well below the
Coulomb barrier, the particles interact solely through the well known electromagnetic interaction, thereby excluding nuclear excitations from the process
. The data can therefore be analyzed using a semiclassical approximation. The sorting code was used to process and analyze data acquired from the Coulomb excitation of 20Ne beams at 73 and 96 MeV, onto a 194Pt target. The detection of gamma rays was done using the AFRODITE HPGe clover detector array, which consists of nine clover detectors, in coincidence with the 20Ne particles detected with an S3 double-sided silicon detector. The new sorting code includes Doppler-correction effects, charge-sharing, energy and time conditions, kinematics and stopping powers, among others, and can be used for any particle-γ coincidence measurements at iThemba LABS. Results from other Coulomb excitation measurements at iThemba LABS will also be presented.

A obesidade se tornou uma das maiores preocupações de saúde pública. É um distúrbio neuroendócrino, no qual fatores ambientais e genéticos agem em conjunto, levando ao excesso de armazenamento de energia na forma de gordura corporal. A síndrome de Prader-Willi (PWS) é a mais freqüente das síndromes que possui a obesidade como uma de suas características, com incidência de 1:25.000 nascimentos. É caracterizada por hipotonia neonatal com dificuldade de sucção, atraso do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor (DNPM), hiperfagia, obesidade, baixa estatura em adolescentes, mãos e pés pequenos, hipogonadismo, distúrbios do sono, características faciais dismórficas, deficiência intelectual leve a moderada e comportamento obsessivo-compulsivo. Pacientes com atraso do DNPM e/ou dificuldade de aprendizado, distúrbios de comportamento, obesidade e/ou hiperfagia, com teste negativo para PWS, foram estudados com plataformas de SNP array, “The GeneChip® Mapping 500K Set” da Affymetrix, ou array-CGH, CytoSure ISCA 4x180k da OGT, para identificar genes relacionados a obesidade e hiperfagia, assim como, novas regiões genômicas implicadas na etiologia de síndromes genéticas associadas à obesidade. Dentre os 31 pacientes estudados, oito apresentaram variações de número de cópias (CNVs) em seu genoma: deleção em 1p22.1p21.2; deleção em 3q25.33q26.1 e deleção em 13q31.2q32.1; duplicação em 7q36.2; deleção em 8p23.3p23.1 e duplicação em 12p13.33p13.31; duplicação 16p13.11p12.3; duplicação em 17q11.2; deleção em 20p12.1; duplicação em 21q22.13. Duas dessas alterações foram herdadas de pais fenotipicamente normais. Algumas dessas CNVs sobrepõem regiões genômicas previamente relacionadas com obesidade, incluindo a microdeleção de 1p21.3 e as duplicações dos cromossomos 12 e 21. Identificamos genes anteriormente descritos como associados à obesidade (PTBP2, DPYD, MIR137, GNB3 e PPM1L), ou possivelmente envolvidos com este fenótipo (HTR5A e KCNJ6), mapeados em várias dessas CNVs. It is a neuroendocrine disorder, in which genetic and environmental factors act together, leading to excessive storage of energy as fat. Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is the main obesity-related syndrome with a birth incidence of 1:25,000. It is characterized by neonatal hypotonia, poor sucking, developmental delay, hyperphagia, obesity, short stature in adolescents, small hands and feet, hypogonadism, sleep disturbance, dysmorphic facial features, mild to moderate intellectual disability and obsessive-compulsive behavior. Patients with psychomotor developmental delay and/or learning disabilities, behavior disorders, obesity and/or hyperphagia, who tested negative for PWS, were studied by chromosomal microarray analysis, including the SNP-based platform “The GeneChip® Mapping 500K Set” (Affymetrix), and the array-CGH platform “CytoSure ISCA 4x180k (OGT)”, to identify genes related to hyperphagia and obesity, as well as new genomic regions implicated in the etiology of genetic syndromes associated with obesity. Of 31 patients studied, eight had copy number variants (CNVs) in the genome: 1p22.1p21.2 deletion; 3q25.33q26.1 deletion and 13q31.2q32.1 deletion; 7q36.2 duplication; 8p23.3p23.1 deletion and 12p13.33p13.31 duplication; 16p13.11p12.3 duplication; 17q11.2 duplicaton; 20p12.1 deletion; 21q22.13 duplication. Two of these CNVs were inherited from an unaffected father. Some of these CNVs overlap genomic regions that have previously been related to obesity, including the 1p21.3 microdeletion and the duplications of chromosomes 12 and 21. Furthermore, we identified genes previously described as associated with obesity (PTBP2, DPYD, MIR137, GNB3 and PPM1L), or possibly involved with this phenotype (HTR5A and KCNJ6), mapped to several of these CNVs. In addition, the genes RNF135, NF1, DPP6, GPC5, DYRK1A and MACROD2 are likely implicated in intellectual disability, developmental delay, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders and other clinical features found in patients. <div>The current technologies employed for autonomous driving provide tremendous performance and results, but the technology itself is far from mature and relatively expensive. Some of the most commonly used components for autonomous driving include LiDAR, cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors. Sensors like such are usually high-priced and often require a tremendous amount of computational power in order to process the gathered data. Many car manufacturers consider cameras to be a low-cost alternative to some other costly sensors, but camera based sensors alone are prone to fatal perception errors. In many cases, adverse weather and night-time conditions hinder the performance of some vision based sensors. In order for a sensor to be a reliable source of data, the difference between actual data values and measured or perceived values should be as low as possible. Lowering the number of sensors used provides more economic freedom to invest in the reliability of the components used. This thesis provides an alternative approach to the current autonomous driving methodologies by utilizing acoustic signatures of moving objects. This approach makes use of a microphone array to collect and process acoustic signatures captured for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). Rather than using numerous sensors to gather information about the surroundings that are beyond the reach of the user, this method investigates the benefits of considering the sound waves of different objects around the host vehicle for SLAM. The components used in this model are cost-efficient and generate data that is easy to process without requiring high processing power. The results prove that there are benefits in pursuing this approach in terms of cost efficiency and low computational power. The functionality of the model is demonstrated using MATLAB for data collection and testing.</div>

Assessment of weather conditions for ALMA observations of the SunJakobsson, Daniel January 2020 (has links)
The closest star to Earth is the Sun. The difference between our Sun and other stars is that the dynamics are observable with telescopes. A complex and strange part of our Sun is the chromosphere which is a part of the solar atmosphere. The chromosphere is located between the corona and photosphere where the temperature increases very rapidly within a short distance. A wavelength suited for observing this region is millimetre wavelength. A millimetre observing radio telescope suited to be pointed at the Sun is Atacama Large millimetres/submillimeter Array (ALMA). ALMA is using smaller telescopes to synthesis a larger aperture by correlating the difference between antenna pairs. This technique is called interferometry. When sampling a larger telescope, the projected distance between the smaller telescopes determines the sampling points in Fourier space. When the distance between the antennas increases, they will experience different noise due to Earth's atmosphere. This difference in noise is because the signal travels a different path through the Earth's atmosphere. Different Precipitable Water Vapour (PWV) levels in this path play a major role in this disturbance[1]. To acquire further knowledge of how different seeing effects affect ALMA it is important to enhance the understanding of what could be expected from actual observation. Realistic simulated observations can be a useful tool to extend this knowledge and is investigated in this report. This is done with the CASA (Common Astronomy Software Applications) package and simalma and the simulator tool. The simulator tool gives the possibility to include phase noise from Earth's atmosphere. This noise is calculated with atmospheric transmission at microwaves model and the aatm library [2]. This phase noise is simulated as a fluctuating PWV screen over that array that blows at specific wind speed[3]. Traditionally only thermal noise has been implemented when simulating an observation with the CASA task simalma and simobserve. Initial results indicate a big difference between traditional thermal noise and phase noise. Phase noises generate a greatly increased error as a function of radius compared to a noise free simulated observation. This effect is enhanced for higher PWV levels. This behaviour is due to that the antennas are more sensitive in the centre. This tool shows great potential since more realistic simulations give the possibility to investigate different phenomena in a controlled environment. One could optimize the reconstruction algorithm for noisy observations and investigate how physical phenomena could be affected by different seeing effects. There are a large variety of cases where this type of simulation could be used. Optimization of PWV fluctuating for specific cadences should be done first. This is important because the atmosphere is expected to behave differently at a different cadence because of different movement and averaging. However, optimization and comparison for 1.1 s cadence is doable with data generated from cosmological observations with ALMA[1].

Master’s thesis is dedicated to the issue of network element. In the first part are described technological aspects as the internal structure of network elements and control mechanisms that provide differentiaton of services and support their quality requirements. In the first chapter are listed control mechanisms from most simple like FIFO to the more sophisticated like CBWFQ. Active queue managements are not missing and they are described in the section Riadiaci člen. Significant role in the differentiation of services have processes marking and pakets classification. The second chapter is devoted most promising standard DiffServ. Contains section devoted to architecture, paket marking, code point DSCP and the final part is devoted to the types of per-hop behavior and it is expedited forwarding EF and technique assured forwarding AF. The third chapter gives an overview common models of neural networks, their properties and assess their suitability for deployment in network elements. The routher design itself and its structure in programming environment Matlab/Simulink is the subject of the fourth chapter. Except used bloks from Simulink library is described their setting and function in the wiring. Consequently results are reviewied and conclusions drawn.
