Whitlock, Andrew M. 01 May 1979 (has links)
This creative project deals with the photographic study of forms and patterns found in a natural state. The photo grapher has covered a wide geographical area including Logan and Cache Valley, Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake, Shoshone Falls in southern Idaho and City of Rocks, also in southern Idaho. The objective of this project was to reveal the visual strength of natural forms, or man-made forms acted upon by natural elements, in black-and-white images. Subjects were studied under all seasonal conditions in order to determine the best possible situation for enhancing the aesthetic qualities of the forms and patterns. I t was t he hope of the photographer to furcher enhance the power, boldness, or life-like character of the subjects through the technical manipulation made possible by the photographic process.

If Animals Could Talk

Moore, Matthew 17 April 2009 (has links)
This paper is an investigation of the ideas and philosophies that have played a role in the creation of my thesis exhibition entitled If Animals Could Talk. While my research into the subject of animals and more specifically human/animal interaction has covered a wide spectrum, this paper focuses on several texts including, “Why Look at Animals,” by John Berger and “Simulation and Simulacra” by Jean Baudrillard as being influential in the development of my artwork. This paper also analyzes the work of several artists dealing with human/animal relations. Those artists include Sanna Kannisto, Neeta Madahar and Douglas Gordon.

Chattahoochee Immersion

Wang, Xiaotian 23 April 2010 (has links)
The Chattahoochee River begins in the Appalachian Mountains in northeast Georgia, flows through Atlanta, and then turns south to form the Georgia/Alabama state line. There are many dams along the river to help supply power, and many recreational areas. Most importantly, the Chattahoochee River provides 70% of metropolitan Atlanta’s drinking water. With all of these benefits, we should be protecting the river, but we are not. The water is polluted and gets more polluted the further south you go. In my photographs, I want to bring this to people’s attention. I used photographic negatives “damaged” in water to print my final photographs, hoping the resulting images would awaken viewers’ interest. I want to add my voice to that of other artists who work with water issues, such as Joe Cooks, Alex Kirkbride, and Yin Xiuzhen, and show how the shortage of clean water is not just a local problem for the city of Atlanta, but also a global problem.
