Starts : an urban park for art, culture&education

Vicente, Marco Paulo Sousa 29 July 2008 (has links)
One of the key themes of this research document examines the changes in architecture and the urban environment in relation to an event-oriented society. The urban entertainment culture of the 21st century has spawned a host of event worlds. The marketing of cities and regions with spectacular presentations of history and culture and the redevelopment of city centers to create event spaces are an eloquent expression of this development. In ever fewer cases is this process of urban re-organisation the product of town planning schemes devised by the public authorities. The commercializations of cities is being accompanied by a loss of public space, increasing controls and a growing exclusion of the poor and destitute. The commercializations of culture is celebrating its triumphal march in the concept of the “event city”. / Dissertation (MArch(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Architecture / unrestricted

A report on an Arts Administration internship with the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, Louisiana, Fall, 1989

Nelson, Judy Katherine 01 May 1990 (has links)
During September through December 1989, I successfully completed an internship in the Performing Arts Department at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ms. Elena Ronquillo, Director of Performing Arts at the CAC, acted as my on-site supervisor. She has held this position since August 1988 when the administrative structure of the CAC was reorganized. Previously, she has held the position of Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary/New Genres Department. The Performing Arts Department of the CAC incorporates Theatre, Music and Interdisciplinary Performance. My position as an intern in the Performing Arts Department included the following; 1) interim assistant to Ms. Ronquillo; 2) production coordinator for a major Interdisciplinary Performance, Rachel's Brain by Rachel Rosenthal; 3) pre-production coordinator for a major Theatre production, Brilliant Traces. This report discusses my experiences while I worked with the CAC administration, including specific challenges encountered while I performed assigned duties and tasks in the Performing Arts Department. Recommendations for improvement of specific problems I encountered are discussed. Finally, I discussed my contributions as an intern to the administrative and production aspects of the CAC's Performing Arts Department.

In Search of Perspective: How We Understand Space Through Visual Horizons

Barker II, James L. 05 June 2012 (has links)
This thesis is a study of perspective. Visual perspective invokes (thus creating) both understandings & misunderstandings of space through the use of depth. Depth in my opinion is perspective's ultimate aspiration; no great illustration or portrait of perspective can exist without an exuberant understanding of depth. Depth in architecture therefore becomes... [1] how the design & comprehension of space creates a volumetric understanding and sense of scale, and [2] how architecture can portray an intellectual understanding of its configuration and construction. . . A sort of architectural reality (to its representation). / Master of Architecture

A report on an Arts Administration internship with the Saenger Performing Arts Center, Fall 1987

Rose, Miriam J. 01 May 1988 (has links)
In the internship proposal submitted prior to the active internship, the area of emphasis was specified as being in the Marketing Department at the Saenger Performing Arts Center. The primary objective set forth for the intern was to act as advertising representative for Playbill -- the company under contract with the Saenger that produces and publishes the program for all of the subscription events -- and to devise a marketing strategy targeted at increasing and soliciting greater participation of businesses in program advertising. Additionally, the intern proposed to investigate the possibility of including other arts organizations in a unified effort to most profitably utilize the services of Playbill. Tasks that would accompany this effort would include public relations with advertising agencies, direct communication with representatives from Playbill, and continual interaction with the press agents of the production companies. A secondary objective of the initial internship proposal set forth the intern's involvement with the ongoing, in-house marketing effort. This was to have encompassed participation in the group sales campaign and the corporate sponsorship campaign.

Revolving Scenarios

Rosales, Jorge Enrique 14 June 2010 (has links)
Revolving Scenarios is an arts-performing center located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, intended to hold different cultural / theatrical and social events. The project is presented as a sequence of acts or events that directs the observer through its different spaces. Revolving scenarios becomes a performing piece which tries to recreate a monumental and dramatic architectural spectacle in itself. It is a play performing in the landscape where the visitors / spectators become the leading actor. Due to the nature of the building's geometry and location (inspired by the site's curvilinear lines and the nautilus shell), the project continuously provides multiple opportunities for scenic tropes from the indoor / outdoors. Therefore, views revolve around the landscape, different theatre halls which continuously change and revolve around the theatrical spectacles. As humans, we constantly move and live among scenarios that continuously change, evolve and revolve around ordinary life. The performing arts center becomes a microcosm of the macrocosmic everyday performances occurring in Puerto Rico. The performing piece allows us to expand our vision, vision of the worldâ ¦our worldviews. The thesis allowed discovering poetic architectural views revolving around the theatre, the arts and culture which are constantly changing and evolving along time. / Master of Architecture
