Die doeltreffendheid van psigotegnologie in huweliksvoorbereiding

M.A. / 1. Introduction There is a need for more effective ways in which marital preparation programmes can be presented, as the demand for psychological services exceeds the supply. Psychological education and the application of psychotechnological aids, consisting of printed and video material, computer technology and interactive video-systems may be a major source through which a solution for the above-mentioned problem may be found. 2. Aim of the present study The object of this study was to compare two ways of presenting marital preparation. The effectiveness of the traditional way in which marital preparation is presented, consisting of the help of a program presenter, was compared with the effectiveness of marital preparation presented by psychotechnological aids. 3. Method of research 3.1 The research design The research design selected for the purpose of this investigation was the N = 1 sample design. This design enables one to study a single subject or a couple intensively. The effect of certain interventions can thus be evaluated. Experimental evaluation in research where the N = 1 sample design is used, is found through graphical representation, visual inspection as well as a description of the graphics and visual interpretation. 3.2 The subjects Two engaged couples participated in the research project. Neither had any former experience of a marriage preparation programme. 3.3 The measuring instruments The measuring instruments used in this investigation were: (1) The Dyadic Adjustment Scale; (2) The Empathy Scale; (3) The Communication Skills Test; (4) The' Questionnaire on Positive Reinforcement; (5) The Scoring Procedures for Problem Solving Skills; (6) The Intimacy Questionnaire; (7) Qualitative evaluation. 3.4 The experimental procedure The subjects were exposed to the marriage preparation programme in separate ways. Both couples received a workbook for engaged couples. Supplementary to the workbooks the researcher served as the presenter to the control couple. The experimental couple received interactive video modules, to be completed after each session in the workbook. In spite of the different ways of presentation the subjects had to complete the above-mentioned measuring instruments after specific sessions. It was of utmost importance that the measuring procedure was precisely the same for both couples. On the completion of the program, an-interview situation was used to obtain the qualitative evaluation from each independent couple, in regard to content and presentation of the marital preparation programme. 5. Results of the investigation In regard to the results obtained in the investigation, it appeared that both forms of presentation was duly effective. Both the control and the experimental couples showed a definite improvement with regard to relationship adjustment, from being exposed to the marital preparation programme. It was irrespective of the form of presentation. The conclusion gained was that both forms of presentation should be used supplementary to each other to achieve optimal efficiency. It was shown that both forms of presentation had valuable learning processes.

An evaluation of user performance with inductive coupling of hearing aids and telephone receivers incorporating receiver amplification

Previous research has shown the benefit obtained by hard of hearing people when using inductive means (T-switch) to couple their hearing aids to telephone receivers. Benefit provided by receiver amplification in the telephone handset has also been shown. Informal surveys of hard of hearing people indicate that many of them use telephones having a dual capability: magnetic coupling and receiver amplification. The objective of this investigation was to study user performance with this dual capability. In particular, the effect of receiver amplification on the speech perception ability (as measured by R-SPIN test items) of 10 hard of hearing subjects using inductive means to couple their hearing aid to a telephone receiver was examined under both good and poor telephone line conditions. The influence of the predictability of the speech material presented was also investigated by noting any difference between the subjects' performance on high predictability items and performance on low predictability items (of the R-SPIN test). Results showed that the use of receiver amplification in conjunction with inductive coupling significantly improved the subjects' speech perception scores. Not surprisingly, good telephone line conditions also significantly improved the subjects' scores. Improvement due to receiver amplification was noted, irrespective of line conditions. Similarly, improvement due to good line conditions was observed, irrespective of whether amplification was used or not. Both receiver amplification and good line conditions had significant and positive effects on both low predictability and high predictability scores. We conclude that with speech either in or out of context, receiver amplification will be of benefit to those who use inductive coupling. Analyzing photographs in archival terms

Through a comparison of the literature produced by general archival theorists with that published by photographic archivists, it becomes clear that archival principles are not routinely applied to records in photographic form. Since reflecting knowledge about records creators and circumstances of creation is a basic archival responsibility, this thesis will begin with a discussion of a variety of past and present purposes of photographers in general. The ways in which both purposes and methods can influence photographic information will also be studied. The obligation of photographic archivists to examine records and creators in terms of administrative (including legal), scholarly and other user values will then be examined. Developing a soprano classifier using FIR-ELM neural network

This thesis aims at investigate the feasibility of classifying the soprano singing voice type using a single layer neural network trained with the FIR-ELM algorithm after that the monaural auditory mixture has been segmented with the Harmonic, Percussive and Residual, HPR, decomposition algorithm, previously introduced by Driedger et al.Two different decomposition structures has been evaluated both based on the same HPR decomposition technique. Firstly one single layer that only take advantage of the result of the more pure harmonic and the more pure percussive components of the signal. Secondly, one multilayer structure that further decompose both the harmonic and the percussive components but also takes into account the components that can not be clearly categorized as neither harmonic or percussive components, these are the residual components. The result of the classification was up to 98.5 $\%$ after using these segmentation techniques, this shows that it is feasibly to classify the singing voice type soprano in an monaural source recorded in a non-professional environment using the FIR-ELM algorithm.

The impact of onset transient duration onperceived transient loudness : Could transient level reduction be compensated by increasing transient duration?

When mixing and mastering modern music, many engineers strive for making the end product to be perceived as loud as possible without sacrificing audio quality. Achieving this will often involve reducing the dynamic range of a track through peak limiting. By reducing the level of the loudest transients, the additional headroom can be used to raise the overall level of the track. This method of maximizing loudness through transient suppression has, arguably, made it more relevant to understand the human perception of transients. By further understanding the psychoacoustical factors that plays a role in how transient loudness is perceived, engineers could hopefully achieve greater audio quality while maximizing loudness, if desirable. This paper will focus on how the signal duration of a transient will affect its perceived loudness and potentially compensate for level changes within transients. The fact that sound signals of longer duration are perceived as louder than signals of shorter duration has been proven several times in prior research. This effect is tested again, in this research, by letting participants match the loudness of several short pink noise bursts of varying durations. The noise bursts are designed to mimic the envelope of a typical snare drum transient, which makes the stimuli differ from stimuli tested in prior experiments testing the same effect. Based on the result from this experiment, each transient is normalized to be perceived as equally loud. Then, a stationary component is added to every transient to make each stimuli mimic a full typical snare drum. In a second experiment, each stimuli is then compared against each other in an ABX test to see if listeners can perceive the differences.   The results from the first experiment showed that transients were perceived to be approximately 0.3 dB louder per 5 ms increase in duration. In the second experiment, listeners failed to hear the differences between stimuli when transient duration differed less than 5 ms. For differences in duration longer than this, listeners correctly identified the differences.

The topic of the diploma thesis is fear, the form is an audiovisual installation with social overlap. Audio created from recordings of interviews on a given topic and spatial installations. It is therefore a matter of creating several elements that will put together a complete installation. One of the elements is conversations with people about their feelings, fears and fears - work also has a social overlap. The second element is the installation and use of sound recordings of the requested persons. The end result is a room where the voices of people are played, the walls are formed of reflective surfaces so that the visitor can see himself in the spacious darkness. Reflective material is not mirrors, I want to create a blurred image of faces.
