Κρασούλης, Αγαμέμνων 08 July 2011 (has links)
In this thesis we study the audio features and their applications, such as automatic music genre classification. It is also studied the behavior of these features under reverberant conditions, emphasizing on spectral skewness. In this framework, it is suggested a method of predicting the behavior of this feature under reverberant conditions, which could have many applications such as source - receiver distance estimation and prediction of the spectral skewness of anechoic audio signals.

Souza, Laís Maria Fermino de. January 2018 (has links)
To reach a larger number of consumers, the Marvel Cinematographic Universe (MCU) consists of movies, television and Netflix series and webisodes. In this sense, the overall objective of the study is to observe how the Marvel brand expands its fictional universe through the Netflix series and the use of crossover elements. The following research question was then established: how does the articulation of the crossover elements consolidate and expand the Marvel Universe? The study was initiated by the authors Andrea Semprini, Henry Jenkins, Carlos Scolari and Jason Mittel. The "Daredevil", "Jessica Jones", "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" series were determined as the research object and as a research methodology the case study of Robert K. Yin. In order to structure the work and analyze the chosen objects, the concepts of "causality, time and space" developed by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson were used. For the better assimilation of the results, the concepts of the authors were adapted in the categories "character, action and space", which made possible the establishment of the "crossover element." Sixty-five episodes were deconstructed, each containing one of the series analyzed, 13 (thirteen) episodes. To examine the crossover in the series, we started with the definition "character crossover" pointed out in the stud... This research investigated the application of visual effects in real time in the narrative construction of spectacles with projection. Starting from studies to construct a device directed to the application of visual effects in real time, we wanted to locate how it is possible to make such application in three different modalities of spectacles, that fall within the scope of works realized by the artistic group RE(C)organize, of which we are part, being: a musical show, a performance spectacle (being that these must integrate in their projects the videoprojection) and a presentation of video mapping, that is totally or partially, realized in a live form. The option for these modalities was made according to the professional affinity of the group. We seek, through a theoretical and practical process, to identify the effects that evidence a narrative discourse, in a symbolic and / or metaphorical way, as well as to detect those who had the potential to meet the demands of the live show, which we believe are: the urgency (in the sense that the work must happen in that unique instant) and the evidence (in the sense of characterizing the specific moment in a clear way) - which is discussed in detail throughout this project / Resumen: Esta investigación estudió la aplicación de los efectos visuales en tiempo real en la construcción narrativa de espectáculos con proyección. To Produce and Persist: A Dialectical Investigation of Purpose in Commercial Stereophony

Caringer, Kelly Heath 01 May 2017 (has links)
This dissertation seeks to identify the purposive force that determines the form and function of commercial stereophony in capitalist society, and the ways in which this force affects the productive and consumptive activities of stereophonic practitioners and listening audiences. Employing dialectical materialism, I examine three social processes that either historically established or continue to influence the mediative potential of stereophonic sound: the invention and industrial standardization of the stereophonic apparatus, the professionalization of stereophonic practitioners, and the social construction of stereophonic listeners as a mass consuming audience. These interrelated studies reveal perceived economic necessity as the dominant causal force that governs all stereophonic processes and practices under the capitalist economic system. Informed by my chapter findings, which complicate Karl Marx’s materialist base and superstructure schema – a coarse conceptual abstraction of capitalist production, I construct a more refined and flexible schematic diagram that offers a distinctive bird’s eye view of the universal interplay between capitalists, producers and consumers. This novel conceptual schematic depicts productive forces and productive relations as coterminous expressions of the dual-purpose of capitalism: to produce surplus-value for accumulation by capitalists, and to do so in perpetuity.

Euphonium and Live Interactive Electronics: A Performers Examination of Three New Works

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: Electro-acoustic compositions throughout the twentieth-century have flourished due to the modern advancements and improvements in technology, including image based interactive software. This project aims to reveal how three composers of different backgrounds utilize the use of euphonium in combination with live interactive electronics. To this date no known works have been composed for this instrumentation. Advancements in the development of audio software and hardware have helped to improve and rapidly evolve the inclusion of live electronics including the use of performer-triggered events, audio processing, and live electronic decision-making. These technologies can be utilized and explored in various ways. Three composers have been commissioned to each compose a new work focusing on using the timbre of the euphonium in combination with explored electronic sounds, unplanned sounds of nature and the use of the human voice. Each work is performed and examined by the author in order to further explore the electro-acoustic properties of this genre, how they communicate and interact with one another, and how the electronics interact and meld with the sound of the euphonium. Compositional elements in this project include but are not limited to the use of pre-recorded natural and “un-natural” sounds, and the manipulations of both pre-recorded and live sounds through the use of performer triggered events using visual programming languages such as Max/MSP and looping pedals. / Dissertation/Thesis / Zero Circle-Justin Rito (Live Recording) / Warrior-Brett Copeland (Live Recording) / Petrichor-Grant Jahn (Live Recording) / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2017
