Design and Analysis of a Dual Supply Class H Audio Amplifier

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: Efficiency of components is an ever increasing area of importance to portable applications, where a finite battery means finite operating time. Higher efficiency devices need to be designed that don't compromise on the performance that the consumer has come to expect. Class D amplifiers deliver on the goal of increased efficiency, but at the cost of distortion. Class AB amplifiers have low efficiency, but high linearity. By modulating the supply voltage of a Class AB amplifier to make a Class H amplifier, the efficiency can increase while still maintaining the Class AB level of linearity. A 92dB Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR) Class AB amplifier and a Class H amplifier were designed in a 0.24um process for portable audio applications. Using a multiphase buck converter increased the efficiency of the Class H amplifier while still maintaining a fast response time to respond to audio frequencies. The Class H amplifier had an efficiency above the Class AB amplifier by 5-7% from 5-30mW of output power without affecting the total harmonic distortion (THD) at the design specifications. The Class H amplifier design met all design specifications and showed performance comparable to the designed Class AB amplifier across 1kHz-20kHz and 0.01mW-30mW. The Class H design was able to output 30mW into 16Ohms without any increase in THD. This design shows that Class H amplifiers merit more research into their potential for increasing efficiency of audio amplifiers and that even simple designs can give significant increases in efficiency without compromising linearity. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Det auditiva nätet

Olsson, Johnny January 2006 (has links)

Mediating Interactions in Games Using Procedurally Implemented Modal Synthesis : Do players prefer and choose objects with interactive synthetic sounds over objects with traditional sample based sounds?

Strandberg, Carl January 2018 (has links)
Procedurally implemented synthetic audio could offer greater interactive potential for audio in games than the currently popular sample based approach does. At the same time, synthetic audio can reduce storage requirements that using sample based audio results in. This study examines these potentials, and looks at one game interaction in depth to gain knowledge around if players prefer and chooses objects with interactive sounds generated through procedurally implemented modal synthesis, over objects with traditionally implemented sample based sound. An in-game environment listening test was created where 20 subjects were asked to throw a ball, 35 times, at a wall to destroy wall tiles and reveal a message. For each throw they could select one of two balls; one ball had a modal synthesis sound that varied in pitch with how hard the ball was thrown, the other had a traditionally implemented sample based sound that did not correspond with how hard it was thrown but one of four samples was called at random. The subjects were then asked questions to evaluate how realistic they perceived the two versions to be, which they preferred, and how they perceived the sounds corresponding to interaction. The results show that the modal synthesis version is preferred and perceived as being more realistic than the sample based version, but wether this was a deciding factor in subjects’ choices could not be determined.

Practical knowledge and of the professionals of the Program of Health of the Family on auditory health.

Elaine Fernandes dos Santos 22 October 2004 (has links)
According to the World Health Organization 42 millions of people aged over 3 years old have some kind of audio loss. In Brazil, there are no data in population level about the importance of hearing loss, but estimates show that 1,5% of the Brazilian population is a bearer of any hearing problem. Hearing alterations are considered by WHO, problems of public health and can, in many cases, be minimized and even be avoided through a primary attention in audiology with the insertion of audio health programs, reducing costs with specialized attendance. About this aspect, the objective of this study was to investigate the knowledge of professionals working at Family Health Care Program of UBASF Cesar Cals about hearing health. Thus, 19 interviews with FHCP (Family Health Care Program) professionals were made in order to define analytical categories to posterior discussion. Itâs important to reinforce that the results evidenced lack of knowledge and sensibility of professionals concerning audio loss as one of the main reasons to the non-fulfillment of hearing health promotion. This way, the lack of training or orientation about the issue has also contributed to the non-recognition of hearing loss as a health problem in the area and the non- practicality of its prevention. Thus, we conclude that there is a necessity that the prevention measures of hearing health problems could be adopted, having as a starting point the sensitivity and the training of the FHCP staff.

Senhora da encruzilhada : perspectivas dialógicas da dança com o audiovisual / Lady of the crossroads : dialogical perspective of dancing with the audiovisual

Gualter, Katya Souza, 1963- 25 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Eusébio Lobo da Silva / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-25T10:20:56Z (GMT). The present study aimed to investigate the potential of dançaudiovisual to promote poetic-dance-virtual body, taking as inspiration the Pombagira symbologies. Field observation was the process of creating audiovisual essay titled Lady of the Crossroads (Gualter, Brazil, Fiction, 18min) finalized in 2012. Our hypothesis, according to which there is a dançaudiovisual able to promote an integrated view of the body, ie the narrative and poetic-engine body dancing body as extensions of themselves and beyond themselves. The Pombagira is worshiped predominantly female entity in Brazil on Religion known as Umbanda, imposing themselves along with their corresponding masculine Exu, messenger as mediator between the visible world of men and the world of invisibility and Nature. This was an experimental research motivated by the following questions: What is the characteristic of a dialogical process with the production of audiovisual dance? What are the guiding principles of a dialogical process with audiovisual production dance? In the experience of dialogue Dancing with the audiovisual potential exists poetic- dance for a body? To complete the work, we note that in Lady of the Crossroads, we dance bringing dialogy with a poetic visual density located in the enjoyment body-camera-space-time-movement-image-sound that remains between the intersections of languages (and dance audiovisual), techniques (visual and physical), media (digital and musical device) materials and means of expression, driven by an invisibility charged presence - the Pombagira. Lady of the Crossroads achieves a poetic BETWEEN where the arts of dance and audiovisual are marked by the heartbeat between the various elements that make up the senses and their plurals. We see at the same time, dance and audiovisual. We also see the dance, we also see the audiovisual, as an event, becoming a single light force, one appearance, enhanced by Pombagira. The strength of this luminous undeniably transdisciplinary nature and constituted by the presence of the two arts, call dançaudiovisual. In this case, the Corps is poetic-dance, assuming a new plasticity in the virtual state, ie, to be shot, win new relations of space, time and motion, giving the idea spread, extra time continuum. From this perspective, repetition with Dancing with the audiovisual composes very own poetic in the field of seamless mobility. The filmic process adopts a notion of plot under a standpoint of plots that have no immediate solution, ie, do not follow a linear narrative logic of the beginning, middle and end, necessarily in that order. This nonlinear logic is coalescing the guiding themes of the film: places without transit points of departure (start) or arrival (end), passes, crossroads, crossroads, continuous displacements. Why not have an immediate solution, the process induces the director-artist-researcher to deal with problems during the whole time of artistic/cinematic production, seeing themselves thus impelled to adopt an attitude of permanent deconstruction / Mestrado / Artes da Cena / Doutora em Artes da Cena

O vídeo como ibirapema. A apropriação dos recursos audiovisuais pelos Manoki e seus discursos sobre a história / Video as ibirapema: the appropriation of audio-visual resources by Manoki people and their discourses about history

André Luís Lopes Neves 19 December 2014 (has links)
This research proposes an analysis of the appropriation process of audio-visual tools among the Manoki, indigenous people who live in northwest of Mato Grosso, and their correlations with native discourses about history. Through an ethnography mediated by video used by indigenous people in a prominently prospectively way in strategies for registration and selfrepresentation we arrive at several ethnological themes such as intergenerational relationships, conceptions of time, ritual and eschatology. By combining anthropological approaches in audio-visual and Amerindian peoples, the analysis aims to take into account the native perspective on the subject of changes in their world and the role that audio-visual records may have to Manoki people.

Snyman, Darelle 03 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. / Hearing-impaired pupils differ from normal-hearing ones in that they have neither language nor speech. The result is an incapability to communicate. To overcome this immense problem, hearing-impaired children are educated with great empathy. The teachers of these children need to have patience, dedication and the capability to implement any available means to fulfil the special needs of their pupils. Media gives the teacher the ways and means to introduce the real world and its components to the child, starting with the wearing of a hearing aid. The hearing aid allows the child to step out of silence into a world of some sound. The education of the hearing-impaired relies on the use of media (that is: printed material, the overhead projector and transparencies, the computer, video, television, music, hearing aids and real objects). Each of the ,above mentioned, fulfils a special need in the education of the hearing-impaired - it brings about more effective teaching and learning. It gives the hearingimpaired the chance to be part of the normal living life .

Bantjes, René 19 November 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Education) / This study of the design of support material for educational television programmes has been undertaken for the following reasons: in order to realize educational television's full potential it must be supplemented with support material; several types of support material had to be identified; problems regarding the design of support material had to be identified. A literature study concerning learning and the learner was undertaken. It was concluded that the adult learner may choose whether he is going to enter the learning situation or not. If he feels threatened by or dissatisfied with the learning situation he can leave and seek a learning situation that suits his needs. The adult learner also undergoes different stages of adulthood and this determines his specific learning needs. A literature study of specific institutions and projects that utilize support material as well as specific types of support material was done. The following conclusion was drawn that the majority of projects or institutions make use of television, textbooks and/or study guides. A variety of other media may be used to support the above...
