Vattnets möte med land : Hur kan man uppmärksamma hållbarhet i ett fysiskt rum.

Byman, Emelie, Catovic, Lejla, Saleh, Wafa January 2019 (has links)
Gestaltningen i kandidatarbetet kommer ta stöd utav perspektivet X for change. / With this bachelor thesis we want to raise awareness and to convey sustainability, with a focus on consumption and plastic littering in the sea. This bachelor thesis will result in a design that will be in a physical room. The physical room is a breakroom and is located in the Naval museum in Karlskrona, which is also our external partner. We believe that it is important to write about consumption and plastic littering in the sea because it has a devastating impact on humanity and our planet. The design that this bachelor thesis will produce will be supported by the design perspective X for Change. Methods and idea generating methods that helped our work move forward are brainstorming, moodboard, mindmaps and prototypes. We chose these methods because we consider that it could provide the greatest possible potential for the work. In the end we have a design created through many different decisions and selection. We use a technique called double exposure 3d which we placed on one of the walls of the room. Double exposure 3d is that with the help of a pair of “old” 3d glasses, which has a blue and red side, can filter out different color channels which then results in two different images, which at the same time is a whole. We made two illustrations of plastic littering where one is put on the red side and the other on the blue side. This is to represent today and how the future will look like if we continue with our unsustainable consumption and littering. The illustration is fictional and is only a representation of how the world could look in the future. The wall will also be supported by informative posters, including suggestions on what an individual can contribute with.

The influence of teaching hardwriting, reading and spelling skills on the accuracy of world level reading

Stark, Robert John Alexander 30 August 2010 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of THRASS (Teaching Handwriting, Reading and Spelling Skills) on the word level accuracy skills of a group of grade 2 learners. Word level accuracy is one sub skill in learning to read and is an indicator of the word recognition abilities of the child. THRASS is a program that has been designed to systematically teach phonics and, thus, teaches the basic building blocks of word sounds and structure so as to improve the child’s decoding ability and word recognition ability. The research took place within the positivist paradigm and the methodology is quantitative in nature. The data collection method took the form of a one group pretest-posttest design, where a standardised reading test was administered prior to exposing the participants to the THRASS Program and then readministered one year later on the same group of learners. Data analysis took the form of statistical analysis to investigate any statistical significant difference in the word level accuracy skills of those Grade 2 learners. The result showed that over the period of a year the average reading accuracy age for the target population increased by four months. However, after statistical analysis the difference was not statistically significant. The Null Hypothesis that; exposing a group of Grade 2 learners to the THRASS Program for a period of one year will have no statistically significant influence on their word level accuracy skills cannot be rejected . However, the changes both in average reading accuracy as well as error patterns have inspired recommendations for further research. The use of messaging service applications as an educational support tool in higher education institutions

Matli, Walter 04 1900 (has links)
M.. Tech. (Information Technology, Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences), Vaal University of Technology) / The Green Paper for Post-School Education and Training states that higher education and training institutions are faced with the challenge of teaching underprepared students. Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Ekurhuleni has experienced an increase in the number of underprepared first year students from basic education to higher education, similar to other higher education institutions (HEIs) and training centres, and most of these students are familiar with messaging service applications. The purpose of this research is to determine if messaging service applications have a constructive role to play in supporting tertiary education. A variety of journals, books and other online materials were reviewed to learn and confirm the current information on messaging service applications and electronic communication interaction in higher education. A mixed methods research methodology has been adopted comprising of both qualitative and quantitative research. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews as well as questionnaires with structured questions to address the objectives of the study. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed to students and the sample (N=212) resulted in a response rate of 84.8%. Interviews were conducted targeting students doing a bridging course in Information Technology. In addition, data was collected from one of the messaging service applications, Whatsapp, for one semester with one class. For the analysis of the data, two theories—Social Presence Theory and Context Awareness Theory—were adopted. This research found that students who partook in the study displayed a positive perception of using messaging service applications in an educational environment. Furthermore, the textual interaction analysis indicates that students were able to successfully interact and use messaging services as educational supporting tool outside the classroom. From the findings a model has been developed which demonstrates how student learning outside the formal classroom learning environment can be supported through the use of messaging service applications. The research contributes to a better understanding of using of messaging service applications as an educational supporting tool in higher education. Messaging service applications enable students to forget about gender and cultural differences; it encourages them to work together as an online community. This research furthermore provides a basis for HEIs and academic leaders to initiate the discussion and consider the possibility of introducing messaging service applications as educational supporting tool outside the classroom.
