This diploma thesis deals with the study and measurement of coexistence scenarios that can occur between the LTE and LoRa systems in the unlicensed ISM band 2.4 GHz. A common radio frequency band in which LTE and LoRa systems can coexist is defined. An appropriate laboratory measurement is proposed and realized, allowing automatized measurement of the defined coexistence scenarios. For this purpose, a personal computer, professional measurement equipment and software MATLAB are utilized. Functionality of the proposed concept is verified by extensive measurements. The obtained results are graphically shown and discussed in detail.

abstract: The number of compositions that use electronics alongside the wind ensemble has gradually increased in the 21st century, yet these compositions are infrequently programmed past their premieres. Explanations include lack of access to necessary resources, unfamiliarity with the repertoire, and inexperience with the technology they require. While there are other barriers to performance, this document focuses on familiarizing the repertoire and providing foundational knowledge necessary to overcome inexperience.
As the number of technology-native composers, audience members, and performers continues to increase, electronics in the ensemble are likely to become more standard. Without knowledge of the technology electronics require, these works will remain inaccessible. Composers attempt to bridge the technological knowledge gap by providing technical instructions for individual pieces, but this does not help people recognize the broader concepts that make all of these works more accessible. This document guides ensemble directors and performers to an understanding of these base concepts by developing a grading system for technology difficulty, assessing pedagogical and performance issues, and providing an annotated list of works currently available for electronics and winds. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2020

<p>Filtri predstavljaju nezaobilazan deo svakog mikrotalasnog uređaja. Skorašnji veoma brz razvoj bežičnih sistema pred mikrotalasne filtre postavlja nove zahteve kao što su visoke performanse, kompaktnost i rad na više proizvoljno odabranih učestanosti koje se mogu nezavisno kontrolisati.<br />Naučni doprinos ove doktorske disertacije predstavlja pet novih konfiguracija mikrotalasnih multi-band filtara koji su realizovani u mikrostrip arhitekturi. Od toga tri konfiguracije predstavljaju dual-band filtre, a preostale dve konfiguracije tri-band filtre. Filtri su realizovani korišćenjem fraktalnih krivih i/ili savijenih λ/4 rezonatora, i to u klasičnoj tehnologiji štampanih ploča i u višeslojnoj tehnologiji nisko-temperaturne zajedno pečene keramike.<br />Detaljno je analiziran i opisan način rada predloženih filtara. Filtri su fabrikovani, a njihove performanse izmerene i upoređene sa drugim rezultatima dostupnim u literaturi. Pokazano je da predložene filtre karakteriše mogućnost nezavisne kontrole propusnih opsega što je iskorišćeno za realizaciju dual-band filtara koji rade na WLAN 2.4/3.5 GHz opsezima i tri-band filtara koji rade na WLAN 2.4/3.5/5.2 GHz opsezima. Štaviše, predložene tri-band strukture predstavljaju najmanje tri-band filtre do danas predložene u literaturi.</p> / <p>Filters are indispensable components in any microwave device. Recent rapid development of wireless systems posed new demands to microwave filters, such as high performance, compact size and the ability to simultaneously operate on several independently selected frequencies.<br />Scientific contribution of this dissertation are five novel microwave multi-band filters realized in microstrip architecture. Out of the five, three configurations are dual-band filters, while the remaining two are tri-band filters. Filters are designed using fractal curves and/or folded λ/4 resonators, in the conventional printed circuits technology or in low-temperature cofired ceramics technology.<br />Operating principles of the proposed filters have been analyzed and explained in detail. Their performances have been measured and compared to other recently published results. It has been shown that the proposed filters allow independent control of the passbands. This has been used to design dual-band filters operating at WLAN frequencies of 2.4/3.5 GHz and tri-band filters operating at WLAN frequencies of 2.4/3.5/5.2 GHz. Moreover, the proposed tri-band filters are the most compact tri-band filters published so far.</p>

Low-Power Secondary Access to the TV and Aeronautical BandsObregon Gamarra, Evanny Carol January 2012 (has links)
The avalanche in mobile data consumption represents a big challenge for mobile operators. The efficient use of radio resources, e.g. technology, infrastructure and spectrum, is needed to meet the new capacity requirement in the mobile networks. This thesis aims at quantifying the real-life spectrum opportunities for deploying a massive low-power indoor secondary system. Our studies have mainly focused in two frequency bands: the digital TV and the aeronautical band. Indoor secondary access to these bands presents different technical challenges: Limited adjacent channel rejection capabilities and no information about the location of the primary receivers are key challenges in the digital TV band. Instead for the aeronautical band, the control of the aggregate interference over a large area due to the high sensitivity levels and the extremely low permissible outage probability at the primary system are the key issues for secondary access. We have proposed a research methodology for determining the availability of spectrum opportunities in both frequency bands: digital TV and aeronautical band. Our methodology mainly emphasizes on establishing the realistic limits of tolerable interference at the primary, devising practical sharing schemes and determining the operational conditions and constraints for the secondary system. Based on our numerical results and measurement campaigns, we conclude that there is significant amount of spectrum opportunities for the deployment of massive low-power indoor secondary access in the digital TV and aeronautical band. The availability of spectrum opportunities highly depends on the sharing mechanisms, the primary protection criteria and the secondary system parameters. Future work should consider how the secondary users share the available spectrum in order to optimize the performance of secondary system in realistic scenarios. Another interesting investigation is the business viability assessment of secondary access in both frequency bands. / <p>QC 20121002</p>

This composition for Wind Ensemble (like Concert Band but usually only one player on a part) was Scott Master's Thesis for completing a Master of Music degree in Composition at Butler University. Written in 2010, the piece is a combination of styles, philosophies, and techniques, all in balance with each other. Avant-garde and traditional techniques are used; tonality and atonality vie with each other, resulting in a combination of the two; specific musical directions are balanced by a degree of choice available to each participant.
“The Memory of Persistence” is about a journey. No specific personal story is presented, nor is the piece programmatic, but the progress and development of the piece could mirror many life situations and be accessible to anyone from that point of view. There is a progression from simple to complex, from innocence to maturity, that is demonstrated in the instrumentation as well as the melodic and harmonic elements.
The title of the composition is an allusion to Salvador Dali’s painting called “The Persistence of Memory.” Even the font of the score’s title page is based on Dali’s own handwriting. Dali was a major player in the Surrealism movement of the twentieth century, combining classical elements of art with unusual, surprising, or even outrageous twists. “The Memory of Persistence” does the same thing in a musical setting. Yet, even without knowledge of Dali, the listener can understand the title because the piece demonstrates persistence through difficulty while retaining the memory of the past and incorporating it into current life.

In high frequency design, harmonic suppression is a persistent struggle. Non-linear devices such as switches and amplifiers produce unwanted harmonics which may interfere with other frequency bands. Filtering is a widely accepted solution, however there are various shortcomings involved. Suppressing multiple harmonics, if desired, with traditional lumped element and distributed component band-stop filters requires using multiple filters. These topologies are not easily made tunable either. A new filter topology is investigated called Electromagnetic Band-Gap (EBG) structures.
EBG structures have recently gained the interest of microwave designers due to their periodic nature which prohibits the propagation of certain frequency bands. EBG structures exhibit characteristics similar to that of a band-stop filter, but in periodically repeating intervals making it ideal for harmonic suppression. The band-gap frequency of an EBG structure may be varied by altering the periodicity of the structure. However, EBG materials are generally static in structure making tuning a challenge.
In this thesis, a novel solution for tuning the band-gap properties of an EBG structure is investigated. Designs aimed to improve upon existing solutions are reached. These designs involve acoustic and mechanical tuning methods. Performance is simulated using Agilent’s Advanced Design System (ADS) and a device is constructed and evaluated. Comparing all measured test cases to simulation, band-gap center frequency error is on average 4.44% and absolute band-gap rejection error is 1.358 dB.

Student perceptions of college marching band participation on student development goals in higher educationSanchez, Samuel Landon 21 April 2022 (has links)
The college marching band provides students with opportunities that foster student development, defined as the personal growth and identity development of students due to environmental factors in higher education. However, previous research has not focused on the role of college marching band participation in student development. The goal of this study was to broaden the understanding of its student development role, enhance development experiences, and improve culture. A self-administered survey was electronically distributed to band directors through the College Band Directors National Association email list with a request to forward it to current college marching band students. The survey contained two sections: (1) Demographic information, (2) Rating college marching band’s influence on 29 student development goals, using a four-point Likert scale with the choices: strong influence, moderate influence, some influence, and no influence. Chickering and Reisser’s (1993) Seven Vectors of college student development served as a theoretical framework for the creation of goals related to college marching band situations that build and reinforce a student’s identity. Responses were analyzed by comparing groups based on demographic characteristics relevant to the research questions. Results were similar to those of previous research. Women rated college marching band participation’s importance higher than men, older students rated it higher than younger, and more-involved students rated it higher than less-involved students. Participants’ perceptions most resonated with Chickering and Reisser’s (1993) vectors Developing Competence and Developing Purpose, and resonated least with the vector Developing Integrity.

Characterization and applications of soft tissue mimicking materials are presented. A skin mimicking material and a skin mimicking gel is characterized for industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band (2.40 GHz-2.48 GHz). Also a wide band (0.3 GHz – 2.5 GHz) muscle mimicking material is developed. A dual band implantable antenna operating at medical implant communication service (MICS) band (402 MHz – 405 MHz) and ISM band is tested in vitro with skin mimicking material for ISM band. MICS band measurements of the implantable antenna tested in vitro by placing the antenna on the interface of muscle and skin mimicking gel. An on-body antenna operating at ISM Band is designed for wireless cardiac monitoring applications. The mutual coupling between the antennas is minimized by placing antennas with 90 degree phase difference. The recipes for tissue mimicking materials and results such as, comparison of electrical properties, return loss, and mutual coupling measurements is given.
