The Conforming, The Innovating and The Connecting Teacher: A qualitative study of why teachers in lower secondary school adopt physically active learning

Øystein, L., Tjomsland, H.E.,, Leirhaug, P.E., McKenna, J., Quaramby, T., Bartholomew, J., Jenssen, E.S., Daly-Smith, Andy, Resaland, G.K. 20 December 2021 (has links)
Yes / This paper explores why teachers adopt physically active learning (PAL). Data were collected through ‘go-alongs’ supplemented by individual interviews with 13 teachers in seven Norwegian lower secondary schools. Data were then analysed thematically. Results indicated that as well as to enhance their teaching and pupils' learning, teachers adopt PAL to adhere to school policy (The Conforming Teacher), to be an innovative educator (The Innovating Teacher), and, because it matches past positive personal experiences (The Connecting Teacher). The findings can be used to shape PAL teacher training programs to increase the likelihood of adoption.

A study of the effectiveness of perfomance management in Mafikeng high schools / Ellse Tsolo

Tsolo, Ellse January 2010 (has links)
This research is about the implementation of performance management system called Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) in schools. Educators have always complained that IQMS is a waste of time and energy as well as too cumbersome. This research is intended to find about the feelings of educators about the system. how important the system is and if there is any need for the improvement thereof. The approach to the study has been one of quantitative method. A sample of some 226 participant was done and questionnaires were distributed. This sample had to be representative of all level of educators from the lowest level to the principal teachers. The result of the study are such that educators are positive about IQMS especially those with some status and higher qualifications but those in the lower level are not as positive. Another· interesting observation is that almost all participants feel that the system is not objective enough. Half the number of respondents felt that their principal do not know how to do appraisal. There needs to be an in-depth research on a much broader scale to find out why senior teacher are more positive about appraisal than their junior counter parts. / Thesis (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2010

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / The IntelliBus network protocol provides an enabling technology for the next generation data acquisition system. IntelliBus provides greater data acquisition efficiency and reliability compared to other network protocols. This paper discusses the design considerations and implementation of a next generation Data Acquisition System incorporating IntelliBus with emphasis on the advantages of the new architecture over existing acquisition systems.

The Study of Project-Based Learning in Preservice Teachers

Anderson, Ashley Ann January 2016 (has links)
Project-based learning (PBL) is a teaching approach where students engage in the investigation of real-world problems through their inquiries. Studies found considerable support for PBL on student performance and improvement in grades K-12 and at the collegiate level. However, fewer studies have examined the effects of PBL at the collegiate level in comparison to K-12 education. No studies have examined the effects of PBL with preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses. The purpose of this study was to provide an analysis of PBL with preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses. An experiment was conducted throughout two semesters to evaluate student achievement and satisfaction in an undergraduate educational psychology child development course and in an undergraduate educational psychology assessments course, which included the same students from the first semester. Student achievement was determined using quantitative and qualitative analyses in each semester and longitudinally. Results in semester one indicated that the comparison group outperformed the PBL group. Results in semester two suggested there were no differences in instructional styles between groups. Longitudinal analyses showed that the comparison group declined in performance over time, whereas the PBL group improved over time; although, the comparison group still outperformed the PBL group. Results of this study indicate that PBL was not an influential teaching method for preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses.

Milao : a novel framework for mixed imperative and declarative formulation and solving of structural constraints

Narayanan, Vidya Priyadarshini 21 September 2010 (has links)
Advances in constraint solving and increases in processing power have enabled new approaches for automating specification-based testing. However, writing specifications and scaling techniques that utilize them remain challenging. We introduce Milao -- a novel framework for mixed imperative and declarative formulation and solving of structural constraints -- which addresses both these challenges. One, Milao introduces a mixed style for writing specifications using a combination of declarative and imperative styles, which provides flexibility in specification formulation and reduces its burden on the user. Two, it introduces a mixed technique for solving constraints using a combination of solvers in synergy. As enabling technologies, the Alloy tool-set and the Java PathFinder model checker are used. Initial experiments witness the benefits of our framework. / text
