A Paris Afternoon Or A WartMills, Ryan Edward 04 June 2015 (has links)
This collection contains poems written between September 2013 and March 2015. In that time, the author has ceased to wear deodorant for apolitical reasons (no fear of cancer from those wonderfully smelling sticks!), has been to foreign countries at least twice, taken looks at carcasses rotting in the streets of the devastatingly wonderful Sonoran Desert, and often pondered why parking garage security guards do not let childish adults linger in their sheltered emptiness. All things necessary for creating horrible poems of boredom, loneliness and reflections on the picking of boogers. It is strange how the accumulation of years in a body's life continually widens the so-called mind's eye, especially for one who is interested in writing things down. A writer walking through the dream of life and inventing its reality. Truly life is an awful experience, but sometimes there are a lot of people out in the sun enjoying a fine spring day and a fly lands on your hand (and you know it's pooping on you) but in that little creature and that little moment there is contained all the love in and for the world which can cause a smile to bring out that one little dimple on a handsome face. Sometimes we like Sunflowers with our torture, and that is just fine. Sometimes we feel more alone being among happy partygoers and sometimes the Red and Green Apples in the grocery store sexually arouse us; these are the moments the poems contained in this collection were birthed from. "Bedroom problems" : architecture, gender, and sexuality, 1945-63James, Susan Helen January 1996 (has links)
Postwar North America saw a fundamental change in the function, layout, and location of the parents' bedroom and bathroom in the typical middle-class home. This thesis argues that the representations of bedrooms and bathrooms in house plans published by the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), in bathroom advertisements which appeared in women's magazines, trade periodicals, and architectural journals, and, in the 1959 film Pillow Talk, point to women's increased power in the immediate postwar years and constitute a foreshadowing of the Women's Liberation Movement of the 1960s. By revisiting the domestic landscape of postwar North America, this thesis provides an account of women's changing role in postwar society and suggests that architecture played a part in this transformation.

Interface management of offsite bathroom construction : process- and people-factorsMcCarney, Michael P. January 2017 (has links)
Interface management (IM) in its many forms (physical, contractual and organisational) has not received the management research it warrants in the construction sector. Offsite bathroom construction is seen as a sector of offsite construction that can aid the interface problems that are common in construction. However, interface problems that occur when using offsite bathrooms are considered to be as detrimental, if not more to the overall process when compared to traditional bathroom construction. This research will focus on organisational IM, through research into the relevant process and people factors required to mitigate potential IM problems in the offsite bathroom process. A literature review of IM, offsite construction and traditional construction was conducted which identified 16 factors that could have an influence on the organisational IM of offsite bathroom construction. A further literature review was carried out for each factor to establish its connectivity to the holistic process of the IM of offsite bathrooms. A proforma was constructed which gathered quantitative and qualitative data from 82 interviewees, associated with eight case study projects. The methodology adopted was based on the pragmatism philosophical stance, which concurs with a mixed method approach to the collection and analysis of the data. The quantitative data was analysed using frequency tables and the Wilcoxon sign rank test. The quantitative data was analysed using thematic analysis. The analysis identified nine of the 16 factors as main contributors to the IM of offsite bathroom construction. These nine factors consisted of six process factors: procurement, design management, supply chain management, health and safety, tolerance and quality. Three people factors were: communication, client/design team and the role of the project manager. A conceptual model was constructed to encapsulate each of the nine factors and their sub-factors. Important findings from the research identified the procurement route as both an enabler and a constraint, depending on its ability to allow early input from the main contractor and manufacturer to the uptake of offsite bathrooms. The cross-cutting importance of the people factors to the successful implementation of the process factors identified the importance of the main contractor maintaining supervision of the manufacturer and the interface problems created from incomplete design. Further analyses of all the findings identified communication and the role of the project manager as the two most influential factors, with early and informal communication and strong leadership from the project manager relevant to all factors that affect the successful IM of offsite bathroom construction.

Double-Sided Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape : "As a Non-Drill Solution in Bathroom Environments"Lind, Martin Nilsson, Petersson, Daniel, Petersson, Erik January 2014 (has links)
The IKEA customers are looking for new solutions to mount products in their homes and IKEA has embraced the request for this type of applications in bathroom environments as it is of the largest challenges for the customer. Double sided tape has been identified as a possible solution, hence why this project was put together. The research aims to give the reader a deeper understanding regarding double sided tape and the influences of external variables such as material, substrate and surface tension to mention a few. Extensive tests have been carried out where samples from double sided tape suppliers are examined. The test that was developed and carried out in this project aimed to include some of IKEA´s most commonly used materials together with common substrates in bathroom environments. The test data was compiled and the outcome was used to give recommendations to IKEA regarding future product development when using double sided tape and also recommend suitable tape suppliers for continued cooperation.

Previous issue date: 2012-12-12 / Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais / This paper conducted a study of graffiti from public toilets in the city of São Paulo. The focus of analysis is the ability agentive these demonstrations, and to access these intentions and meanings, we sought a dialogue between anthropology and artistic methodologies, experimenting and meanings through interactions of bathrooms installations and interventions, exploring and evoking sensory looks like, smells and communications. To underscore the graffiti, highlight the typical sense of the bathroom and bring to this environment other artistic textures, in addition to their senses of anonymity, transgressor in that uses an area of conservation and public use, subjective and individualized, brings a problematization and theoretical tract of these productions and locations beyond possible interpretations of content and classificatory generalizations. We seek to understand how intentions abandoned in places highly significant gain autonomy for interaction and enable the understanding of a theory of action grounded in production and not in human producers.
