Det är som att prata om sina barn : En studie om betydelsen av bokhyllan i hemmet

Oskarsson, Caroline, Sunesson, Annie January 2023 (has links)
In a time when digitization is increasing, the importance of the physical bookshelf has been questioned. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between book enthusiasts and their bookshelf. This was done by conducting ethnographic interviews in combination with observations and by applying practice theory based on Reckwitz (2002) and the theoretical framework developed by Shove, Pantzar and Watson (2012) which is based on the concepts material, meaning and competence. By exploring the bookshelf's materiality and location, its content and organization as well as what thoughts and feelings the informants have in relation to their bookshelf we were able to show the complexity of the bookshelf's importance. The result shows that the bookshelf has several meanings, including as storage furniture, interior detail, memory holder and character descriptor. These meanings are then expressed in the material aspects of the bookshelf, such as the type of shelf used or what may be placed on it, as well as the practices that book enthusiasts carry out in relation to their bookshelves; interior design practices, organization practices, and reading practices.
