An attitudinal study of job satisfaction for full-time, on-air female personalities at selected television sports departments

Bergman, Hilary P. January 2008 (has links)
The goal of this research was to provide an attitude assessment of how women perceive their roles in sports departments in the television industry.Fifteen female participants responded to a Q sort study which covered these specific subject areas: relationships with coworkers, relationships with management, career advancement opportunities, and work environment. An examination of the Q sorts revealed three distinct factor types that were labeled: Noncommitted, Loyalists, and Dissatisfied. The Noncommitted were satisfied with their feedback from coworkers and management and their willingness to incorporate these comments into the content of the sports broadcast. On the other hand, they did not see any advancement opportunities at their organization or in the industry, itself. The Loyalists did not speak about being held back by men in their organizations and they were not impressed with their promotion opportunities at their companies. Finally, the Dissatisfied group was unhappy because they did not receive support from upper management, only from their coworkers.Demographics had little impact on the interpretation of the three factors. However, if a woman was in the industry for 15+ years, then she usually received a higher salary or was given another job title, such as sports director. This was a rare occurrence though among this group of respondents. / Department of Journalism

Prime time postzionism : negotiating Israeliness through global television formats

Shahaf, Sharon 21 October 2009 (has links)
Prime Time Postzionism - Negotiating Israeliness through Global Television Formats looks at the Israeli reality competition show – Kohav Nolad (“A Star is Born”) as a key text to help explore the ways in which Israeli broadcasters in the contemporary commercial television environment, adapt globally dominant televisual forms as models for the production of extremely popular local series. This program, widely perceived as epitomizing contemporary Israeli national identity, is simultaneously also debated as the product of globalization, and as marker of a post-national/post-Zionist era. In these discussions, perceptions of the proper Israeli national culture and identity are juxtaposed with assumptions about the nature and perceived influence of the shift from public state monopoly in television broadcast to a globalized commercial multichannel broadcast environment. Combining production ethnography with analysis of industry, texts, and public reception discourses, this project explores the significance of global format adaptations for marginal and belated broadcast systems like Israeli television. / text

Political relationship established between social communication entrepreneurs and the Federal Executives, which have resulted in concessions for the setting up and operation of 12 TV stations and three regional TV networks in Paraná, from 1954 to 1985. The study encompasses only free-to-air channel broadcasters, commercial stations, televisions in analogical system and in VHS. In order to compare, contrast and analyse information, material was collected from three daily newspapers, nine interviews with agents involved in the direction of the TV stations and from legal documents related to the system used in the channel concessions, according to The Brazilian Telecommunication Code of Practice, since 1962. The study depicts and assesses the development of press and broadcasting in the second half of the 20th century in order to contextualize and question the course of television in the communication field in Paraná. The newspapers Gazeta do Povo, O Estado do Paraná and Folha de Londrina are used not only as a documental source but also as objects of analysis, because their editorial bears the subjectivity and interests of their owners, who, during the period between 1954 and 1985, became TV stations dealers. The process of setting up regional and national televisions is described historically, including technological progress, the consequences in the programmes and the movements of affiliations of the stations in Paraná. Finally, the hypothesis that guides this research is confirmed: there was direct... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
