The purpose of the present study is firstly to investigate the problem of burnout among primary and secondary school teachers in the Czech Republic, secondly to explore the use of coping strategies against the occupational stress and burnout. According to many studies, burnout may be the result of unrelenting long lasting stress (Freudenberger, 1974; Holland, 1982; Peeters & Rutte, 2005). Correlation analyses was carried out in order to determine the relationship between burnout and coping strategies used by teachers. Subsequently the results were discussed with findings from several previous studies. Furthermore both teacher burnout and coping strategies were compared in various teachers' demographic variables - gender, education, age, school size and level taught, years of experiences and finally class and non-class teaching. In association with burnout, the results indicated 4,6 % of participants, who suffer from burnout often. 56 % teachers of our sample experience burnout rarely or very rarely and 39,3 % of teachers experience burnout never or very rarely. Significant difference was found in age category. Teachers in age 46-60 years experience the highest level of burnout. Regarding the coping strategies, 34 % of teachers use negative coping strategies. Positive correlation between level of...

Rizika zavádění supervize do výchovných ústavů / Potential Risk Faktors in the Implementation of Supervision in Juvenile Detention CentersFIALOVÁ, Markéta January 2012 (has links)
ABSTRACT The objective of this Diploma Thesis is to map the attitudes of the school system?s employees working in behavioral establishments providing institutional and protective care to the practice of implementing supervision as support for their professional activities. The research endeavors to map the issues and risks arising from implementing supervision in such institutions. The theoretical part of the Diploma Thesis aims to explain the basic concepts related to implementation of supervision at educational institutions, namely, such terms as educational institution, professional educators in educational institutions, supervision, supervisor, supervised, etc. A combination qualitative and quantitative survey was used for the realization of this research project. The survey sample consisted of directors of the individual relevant institutions in the Vysočina Region, specifically, twelve specially qualified educators working in educational institutions of the Vysočina Region. The purpose of the survey was to find out what benefits these employees see in the implementation of supervision into their organization?s operation. Another issue of interest was to see how the management of these organizations acquainted their employees with the supervision?s implementation. Finally, we tried to find out what motivated the employees mainly to take part in supervisors? meetings. Subsequent analysis of the results of the research indicated clearly that the employees consider assistance with problem-solving in the area of relationships as being the greatest benefit of supervision. Furthermore, the research showed that the organizations? managements presented supervision as support and benefit for their respective organization. Finally, it was proved that obligation was the main reason for the workers? attendance at supervisors? meetings.

Belastungen von Pflegeheimmitarbeitenden während der COVID-19-Pandemie / Mental health of nursing home staff during the COVID-19 pandemicKirschner, Klara January 2025 (has links) (PDF)
The Covid-19 pandemic has manifested not only through direct infection incidents but also indirectly as a mental health crisis. Concerning this, health care workers have been identified as particularly affected. Despite the disproportional impact of the coronavirus on long-term care facilities, there is a notable lack of studies on mental health and the psychological distress of their staff, especially with regard to long-term effects. Thus, this study aimed to assess themental health of staff in nursing homes during the course of the pandemic and to identify risk and protective factors. Herefore, between November 2020 and December 2022, an exploratory observational study using an online questionnaire was conducted in five waves across ten long-term nursing facilities in Bavaria. A total of 87 questionnaires were included in the analysis. The study compared mean scores over time for mental burden assessed by symptoms of depression (PHQ-2), anxiety (GAD-2), PTSD (IES-R), the burnout syndrome (MBI), subjective work ability (WAS), and subjective prognosis of work capacity (SPE-scale) as well as for physical strains. Additionally, data on COVID-specific and protective factors and occupational effects of COVID-19 was collected and analyzed using bivariate correlation analysis to investigate potential associations with mental health. Longitudinal analysis of nursing home staff’s mental burden showed persistently high rates of depressive (PHQ-2 in May 2021: M=1.77 (SEM=0.24)) and anxiety (GAD-2 in May 2021: M=1.62 (SEM=0.27)) symptoms, a decrease in the mean IES-R scores regarding post-traumatic stress symptoms (from M=7.6 (SEM=0.7) in May 2021 to M=6.4 (SEM=0.8) in May 2022) and an increase in burnout symptoms (MBI from M=2.1 (SEM=1.0) in November 2020 to M=6.8 (SEM=1.2) in November 2022). Subjective prognosis of work capacity also worsened over time: in the last point of data collection, for two-thirds of the nursing home staff a premature retirement within the next two to three years was likely according to the SPE-scale. Bivariate correlation analysis revealed significant correlations between PHQ-2 and GAD-2 (ρ=0.76, p<0.001), IES-R (ρ=0.71, p<0.001) and MBI (ρ=0.64, p=0.002) as well as between IES-R and GAD-2 (ρ=0.76, p<0.001) or MBI (ρ=0.68, p<0.001). This emphasizes a general vulnerability of some individuals to the development of psychological symptoms. Increased incidences of burnout symptoms were associated with significant impairment due to musculoskeletal complaints or headaches (ρ=0.65, p=0.002) and intensively perceived job stress in the week preceding the survey (ρ=0.60, p=0.012). This means, nursing home staff have been identified as a comparably heavily burdened group throughout the pandemic. Due to the persistently high prevalence of mental health issues, the integration of preventive and therapeutic measures into the professional routine is required. Concerning potential future pandemics, early preventive interventions in the setting of long-term care are crucial to avert severe impacts on the mental health of nursing home staff. These measures are urgently necessary not only for the individual, but they also are of societal importance due to the potential loss of working capacity and the subsequent exacerbation of nursing shortage.

Burnout among young physicians and its association with physicians’ wishes to leavePantenburg, Birte, Luppa, Melanie, König, Hans-Helmut, Riedel-Heller, Steffi G. 20 June 2016 (has links) (PDF)
Background: Concerns about burnout, and its consequences, among German physicians are rising. However, data on burnout among German physicians are scarce. Also, a suspected association between burnout and German physicians’ wishes to leave remains to be studied. Therefore, the extent of burnout, and the association between burnout and wishes to leave clinical practice or to go abroad for clinical work was studied in a sample of young physicians in Saxony. Methods: In a cross-sectional survey, all physicians ≤40 years and registered with the State Chamber of Physicians of Saxony, Germany (n = 5956) received a paper-pencil questionnaire inquiring about socio-demographics, job
satisfaction, and wishes to leave clinical practice or to go abroad for clinical work. Response rate was 40 % (n = 2357). Burnout was measured with the German version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI) consisting of the subscales emotional exhaustion (feeling emotionally drained), depersonalization (feelings of cynicsm) and personal accomplishment (feelings of personal achievement in job). Variables associated with burnout, and the
association between burnout and wishes to leave were assessed in multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: For emotional exhaustion participants reached a mean of 21.3 [standard deviation = 9.74], for depersonalization a mean of 9.9 [5.92], and for personal accomplishment a mean of 36.3 [6.77]. Men exhibited significantly higher
depersonalization than women (11.3 [6.11] versus 9 [5.62], p < 0.001). Eleven percent of participants showed a high degree of burnout on all subscales, while 35 % did not show a high degree of burnout on any subscale. Confirming that one would become a physician again, and higher satisfaction with the components \"work environment\" and
\"humaneness\", were associated with a lower chance for a high degree of burnout on all subscales. Higher emotional exhaustion and lower personal accomplishment were associated with an increased chance of wishing to leave clinical practice. Higher emotional exhaustion and higher depersonalization were associated with an increased chance of
wishing to go abroad for clinical work. Conclusions: Preventing physician burnout may not only benefit the affected individual. It may also benefit the health care system by potentially preventing physicians from leaving clinical practice or from going abroad for clinical work.
