My PhD thesis work is to design, synthesize, and characterize inexpensive and reliable nanocomposites for the photovoltaic (PV) devices. Photovoltaic materials utilized in our studies were synthesized using simple and inexpensive methods. The material properties were tailored and optimized to improve the optical absorption and charge transport properties. The PV cells fabricated with these materials exhibited improved power conversion efficiencies (PCE). The origin of charge generation and charge transfer was studied using different photoactive materials such as CdSe quantum dots (QDs), perylene-3, 4, 9, 10-tetracarboxylic-3, 4, 9, 10-dianhydride (PTCDA), poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), multilayer graphene (MuLG), and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM).

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Se a escrita pessoal precisa sobreviver como habilidade individual perante as novas técnicas de produção textual, parece-nos necessária uma análise da escrita manual sob uma nova perspectiva. Num universo regido pelas mídias tecnológicas, no qual o computador pode ser visto como uma verdadeira extensão do homem, qual o lugar da escrita manual na atualidade? E, ainda: acreditando que o design pode auxiliar o educador, de que forma o mesmo pode interferir na aquisição da escrita manual e na formação de uma escrita legível e funcional? O presente projeto de pesquisa procura lançar luzes sobre este tema a partir de uma síntese dos principais modelos de escrita adotados na educação fundamental no Brasil durante o século XX. Para tanto, vamos elencá-los e analisá-los buscando relações e pontos comuns entre esses modelos e apontando para uma reflexão futura, calcada no campo do design e, em especial, da tipografia, tendo a aquisição da escrita como pano de fundo. / If the personal handwriting has to survive as individual skill against the new techniques of writing, it seems necessary to analyze the handwriting in a new perspective. Since we live in a universe governed by the technological media, in which the computer can be seen as a true extension of man, what is the place of handwriting?And yet, believing that design can help the educator, how to interfere in the acquisition of handwriting and the development of a functional and legible writing? This research project attempts to shed light on this issue from a synthesis of the main models of writing adopted in primary education in Brazil during the twentieth century. To this end, we list those models and analyze them in the search of relationships and commonalities between these models and pointing to future notes, based on the design field and, in particular, on that of typography, having the acquisition of writing as a back stage.

The cultural accomplishments of the Northern Song dynasty are unrivalled in Chinese history. Song literati were particularly enthusiastic about calligraphy and writing materials, and the scale of their engagement in the art of writing exceeded that of both former and later dynasties, leaving plentiful legacies of calligraphic culture for later generations to study and appreciate. However, most modern studies emphasize the transmission of calligraphic culture from the Tang to Song and neglect the dynamics of disconnection and transformation between these two dynasties. By demonstrating how the technologies of brush, paper, ink cake, ink stone, and chair and desk (the "materiality" of calligraphy) shaped the look of calligraphy, this dissertation proposes an alternative understanding of the nature of Song innovations in the art of writing. Insofar as these innovations reconfigured the subsequent history of Sinitic calligraphy (calligraphic traditions based on Chinese characters), this dissertation argues that we cannot understand the art of writing without exploring the technology of writing. Through this study, I present the processes by which the literati of Northern Song traced, received, and modified the calligraphic culture of the past in creating their own Northern Song culture. Because of cultural discontinuity and transformation, what they ultimately reconstructed served as the foundation for their own culture, and has become the basis for how we think of the pre-Song past.
