Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Esta pesquisa se propôs investigar como surgiu e vem se constituindo o campo profissional do design brasileiro de tipos digitais. Foi estabelecido um mapeamento aberto desse processo, identificando os marcos, os agentes e as relações que os conectam na consolidação dessa área de atuação. São, inicialmente, abordadas delimitações e categorias relativas à tipografia e ao design de tipos em geral, e as particularidades desse campo frente ao paradigma das
tecnologias digitais. Em seguida são abordadas as condições tecnológicas e sócioeconômicas que possibilitaram o crescimento da atividade em âmbito internacional e seu surgimento no Brasil, bem como os modos de colocação dos projetos na esfera de mercado e algumas tendências projetuais/estilísticas contemporâneas. São também indicados os eventos de promoção da atividade no Brasil a partir do início da década de 2000, bem como as principais publicações nacionais dedicadas ao assunto. São, então, apresentados os projetos identificados como mais relevantes dos designers de tipos brasileiros, a partir de meados da década de 1980 até o ano de 2009. Nessa etapa da pesquisa foram utilizadas referências bibliográficas já disponíveis sobre o assunto, bem como entrevistas realizadas com designers de tipos brasileiros. Por fim, são apontados os principais caminhos seguidos, alguns dilemas do presente e algumas perspectivas que se desenham para o futuro. / This research explores the constitution of Brazilian digital type design as a professional field, from its earliest days till the latest developments. Through an open mapping process, milestones, agents and relationships are identified as important
steps in its consolidation. Initially categories related to typography and type design in general are defined, demarcating the specific characteristics of this area faced by the paradigm of digital technologies. Then follows a survey of the technological, social and economic conditions underpinning the growth of this field worldwide and particularly in Brazil, as well as ways of placing new designs on the market and some contemporary trends in style and project. Considering the Brazilian context, events promoting digital type design during the 2000 decade are listed, together with the most important Brazilian publications in this field. This is followed by an overview of Brazilian type designs from the mid-1980s through to year-end 2009, based on

Within a practice founded on both typographic form and language, I have continued to push myself to make work that is more sensitive to place, more contextual, more (hopefully) generous toward a public audience. These pieces might serve as useful instruments of institutional critique, resources for comprehension, or moments in which to interrogate preconceived modes of seeing. I deploy original texts in public spaces in order that they might force viewers to decide how to personally resolve the content they encounter. Is it language or object? Literal or figurative? Graphic design or art? The further I develop this body of work, the less interested I am in providing answers to those questions. The questions themselves are enough.

E, ainda: acreditando que o design pode auxiliar o educador, de que forma o mesmo pode interferir na aquisição da escrita manual e na formação de uma escrita legível e funcional? O presente projeto de pesquisa procura lançar luzes sobre este tema a partir de uma síntese dos principais modelos de escrita adotados na educação fundamental no Brasil durante o século XX. Para tanto, vamos elencá-los e analisá-los buscando relações e pontos comuns entre esses modelos e apontando para uma reflexão futura, calcada no campo do design e, em especial, da tipografia, tendo a aquisição da escrita como pano de fundo. / If the personal handwriting has to survive as individual skill against the new techniques of writing, it seems necessary to analyze the handwriting in a new perspective. Since we live in a universe governed by the technological media, in which
the computer can be seen as a true extension of man, what is the place of handwriting?And yet, believing that design can help the educator, how to interfere in the acquisition of handwriting and the development of a functional and legible writing? This
research project attempts to shed light on this issue from a synthesis of the main models of writing adopted in primary education in Brazil during the twentieth century. To this end, we list those models and analyze them in the search of relationships and commonalities between these models and pointing to future notes, based on the design field and, in particular, on that of typography, having the acquisition of writing as a back stage.

Based on the diversity of my clients and their products and services, finding a consistent style in my projects might be difficult, although there are usually some typical traits. With examples of my work and dialogue from leaders in the graphic design industry, I intend to point out a common thread that runs through all successful design projects, regardless of the projects' designer, era, or individual design elements (e.g., typography, copywriting, color, layout, imagery). Success comes from graphic design's ability to gain attention and encourage a response.

En läsbarhetsanalys av typsnitt för svenska registreringsskyltar : en kvantitativ studie / Legibility analysis of typefaces for swedish license plates : a quantitative studyBrattström, Noel January 2024 (has links)
This study examines the legibility of two typefaces designed for the Swedish license plates. By using quantitative methodologies, the study compares the current typefaces used on license plates, with Motor, a typeface designed by me as part of this project. Through exposure tests focusing on character recognition the study sheds light on some of the challenges with the current typeface used on license plates. The findings indicate that Motor performs better in terms of legibility. However, the study does not demonstrate whether this would translate into improved safety in the traffic environment. Lastly, the study highlights the significance of further research to determine the potential impact of typeface legibility on traffic safety.

När du tänker på en plats du känner till, antingen mer eller mindre väl, så är det ofta så att din bild av denne färgas av förutfattade meningar eller fördomar. Kanske beror detta på något du fått berättat för dig, eller kanske beror det på hur platsen visas upp medialt. Det är dock sällan en bild som innefattar hela sanningen, eller ens en bråkdel av den. Det är det jag upplevt vad gäller Kiruna. Kiruna är en plats som för många uppfattas som kall, karg och ensam. Både baserat på dess geografiska placering vilket gör att de mörka vintrarna är långa, men också baserat på att platsens största arbetsgivare är en av världens största underjordsgruvor. I detta projektet har jag ämnat undersöka för att sedermera visa upp Kiruna som stad med typsnittsdesign som medel. Att visa en bild av staden som rör sig bortom människors fördomar och som ger betraktaren en insikt som präglas av förståelse med en större bredd. / When you think about a city that you might know more or less ab- out, it is common that your idea of that place might be coloured by preconceptions or prejudice. Perhaps that is due to the fact that you have been told things about the place, or perhaps how it is portrayed by the media. These ideas are, though, rarely ones that includes the whole truth about a place, though. Or even a fraction of the truth. I have experienced this being the case when it comes to Kiruna. Kiruna is a city that many believe to be cold, barren and lonely. This idea is probably based on both its geographical location and the fact that the city’s biggest employer is one of the worlds largest underground mines. In this project I have examined Kiruna through type design, in order to give people a wider and more comprehensice image of what the city is. The goal has been to show the viewer that I have created an image of a place that moves beyond prejudice and gives them insight and understanding of Kiruna in more than that one way.
