Vårdadministratörens professionella problematik : En kvalitativ intervjustudie med examinerade vårdadministratörer inom Västerbottens läns landsting

Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka på vilket sätt vården i Västerbottens läns landsting nyttjar den kompetens som vårdadministratörer besitter efter att ha blivit examinerad från det Vårdadministrativa programmet vid Umeå universitet. Den syftade även till att studera hur vårdadministratörer bedömer förändringsmöjligheter som kan tänkas finnas för deras yrkesgrupp idag. Studien baserades på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer som genomfördes med till antalet åtta anställda inom Västerbottens läns landsting som alla gått det vårdadministrativa programmet på Umeå universitet. Undersökningen resulterade i en sammanställning av arbetsuppgifter som förkom i varierad frekvens i informanternas arbete, samt tre innehavda befattningar där läkarsekreterare är den klart vanligast förekommande bland informanterna. Studien visade också att den studerade yrkesgruppen bedömde personliga egenskaper snarare än utbildning som avgörande i att utveckla och förändra yrkesgruppens förutsättningar, arbetsuppgifter och titulatur. Det framkom också att det är svårt att utveckla vården i sig och att maximera användandet av intern kompetens då tidpress, brist på personal och hög arbetsbelastning försvårar nya kreativa lösningar och idéer från medarbetarna.

This thesis deals with the process of Capacity Management. The main objective of the process is to ensure sufficient capacity of existing infrastructure to support daily business operations and projections of future capacity based on the requirements of the business. In the first part the author focuses on the basic performance characteristics of the Capacity Management coming within the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). Also, the author analyzes the process of Capacity Management in an unnamed company and compares it with the best practices of ITIL. The second part is derived from the first, where the author discusses the Business Capacity Management and management of the capacity of IS/ICT. The last part of thesis is about Cloud Computing technologies from the Capacity Management point of view, as well as the introduction of such technologies in selected company. Each part consists of both theoretical backgrounds from diverse sources, as well as practical experience of the author.

This thesis presents a methodology for data aggregation for capacity management. It is assumed that there are a very large number of products manufactured in a company and that every product is stored in the database with its standard unit per hour and attributes that uniquely specify each product. The methodology aggregates products into families based on the standard units-per-hour and finds a subset of attributes that unambiguously identifies each family. Data reduction and classification are achieved using well-known multivariate statistical techniques such as cluster analysis, variable selection and discriminant analysis. The experimental results suggest that the efficacy of the proposed methodology is good in terms of data reduction.

A Study of the Relationship between the Intensity of Short-Range and Medium-Range Capacity Management and the Effectivenesss of Manufacturing Operations

The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between intensity of short-range and medium-range capacity management and effectiveness of manufacturing operations. Data were collected to test the null hypothesis which stated that intensity of short-range and medium-range capacity management does not influence manufacturing effectiveness. Intensity of short-range and medium-range capacity management was indicated by the following variables: (1) production standards; (2) priority determination; (3) delivery dates determination; (4) material requirements planning; (5) routing information; (6) capacity utilization; and (7) backlog measurement. Manufacturing effectiveness was indicated by the following variables: (1) delivery dates performance; (2) lead times; (3) subcontract work; (4) direct labor overtime; (5) direct labor efficiency; (6) plant and equipment utilization; and (7) work in process inventory. The population selected to provide data for this study is the manufacturing firms in the State of Texas with five hundred or more employees. Over 42 percent of the eligible firms responded to a six-page questionnaire. Several multivariate techniques were utilized for data analysis: (1) factor analysis; (2) canonical correlation analysis; (3) bivariate correlation; (4) multiple linear regression; (5) cross-tabulation; and (6) analysis of variance. The results of this research did not adequately support the rejection of the null hypothesis. However, they did definitely identify a distinct group of capacity management intensity variables that influence manufacturing effectiveness in specific cases. Intensity variables were placed in three groups that identified how influential they were over the effectiveness measures. The most influential group included the variables: production standards and material requirements planning. The indication for the manufacturing manager is to concentrate on improvements in these areas. Effectiveness variables were also placed in three groups that identified the level at which the variables were influenced by the intensity variables. The highly influenced group included plant and equipment utilization and delivery dates performance.

Identifying delay factors in electrical distribution projects at Eskom Northern Cape Operating Unit

Delays on electrical engineering projects are a phenomenon at Eskom distribution due to a wide range of causes. These project delays result in Eskom to contravene with Electricity Regulation Act 4 of 2006 in terms of providing efficient, effective and sustainable operation of electricity supply infrastructure, promoting the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency as well as to facilitate universal access to electricity for South African consumers (Gazette, 2006). Eskom strives to comply with the Electricity Regulation Act by initiating and implementing strengthening projects, refurbishment (reliability) projects, direct customer projects, infills projects and electrification projects (Eskom, 2014).The severe delays experienced in the delivery of electrical distribution projects have a negative impact on South African economic growth and population. This research study adopted interactive management methodology for the identification of project delay factors in Eskom distribution projects through the use of the idea writing technique, nominal group technique, and interpretive structural modelling technique. The interactive management methodology allows a group of people collaboratively to develop a structure that defines the relationship among the system elements. Using interactive management approach, a total of one hundred and twelve project delay factors were reduced to twenty six significant project delays which formed part of interpretive structural modelling. This research study revealed the hierarchical model illustrating interrelationships between the twenty six identified project delay factors. The research study identified three root causes of delays in electrical distribution projects at Eskom Northern Cape Operating Unit, namely "poor communication", "poor planning", and "project scheduling not properly done". The three identified root causes can be used as critical points for eradicating delays in electrical distribution projects at Eskom Northern Cape Operating Unit. The research study found that a total of ten out of twenty six project delay factors were unique to electrical distribution projects at Eskom Northern Cape Operating Unit.
