Estudo para viabilização da cementação gasosa através da dissociação do etanol diluído com gás nitrogênio / Viability study of carburizing dissociation of ethanol diluted in nitrogen

Cadiolli, Luiz Paulo 02 April 1998 (has links)
Nowadays, due to the need of reduction of the consume of petroleum derivative products, the substitution of these products for others sources is really necessary. This work presents a viability study of carburizing dissociation of ethanol diluted in nitrogen study gas. Thermodynamics studies were carried out with chemical analysis of gas samples from furnace using infrared analyser. CO, CO2 and CH4 gas analysis were used to determine the gas carbon activity (ag) and the carbon coefficient of transport velocity from atmosphere to the metallic surface (&#946), for the temperature of 870°C, 900°C and 930°C. The carbuzing atmosphere for these temperatures were diluted with different percentages of nitrogen gas. With carbon potential, but it was the mean responsible for the size reduction of case carburized.

The influence of manufacturing process parameters on short fatigue crack growth in a carburized case.

Mauricio Carvalho da Cunha 09 June 2000 (has links)
Carburizing, quenching, tempering and shot peening treatments are often used in mass production of automotive parts, such as gears and shafts. Changes in these treatments can influence the bending fatigue life of these parts. The purpose of this study was to measure the influence of different shot peening times, different tempering temperature and different internal oxidation depths, on the short fatigue crack growth in case carburized DIN 20MnCr5 steel. Four-point-bend fatigue tests were carried out in rectangular section specimens without notch. The surface short crack growth was monitored by means of acetate replication technique. Six levels of shot peening, four levels of tempering temperatures and two levels of internal oxidation were studied in this work. Crack length versus number of cycles and crack growth rate versus mean crack length were obtained as principal results. Shot peening from 30 minutes to one hour, tempering at 160#176C and a lO~m depth of internal oxidation showed the best results in fatigue life.

Etude de formation d'hémicarbure de tantale (Ta2C) par l'intermédiaire d'un procédé de cémentation sous pression réduite / Study of tantalum hemicarbide (Ta2C) production by low pressure carburizing

Cotton, Dominique 07 July 2015 (has links)
Tantalum is a very dense metal (d = 16.6) and has a very high melting temperature of 2996°C. This material is particularly required for crucibles used for pyrochemical applications. Early studies show that a carburizing treatment enhances corrosion resistance from liquid metals. Indeed, the intergranular attack of tantalum is stopped by Ta2C precipitates, which occupy the grain boundary regions. The production of the carbon saturated tantalum with Ta2C precipitates requires a good understanding of tantalum carburizing.A carburizing treatment on tantalum sample causes the emergence of a TaC layer on surface and Ta2C layer just below. A reduction of carbon flow has enabled the study of the first steps of tantalum carbides formation. This specific condition of carburizing leads to an epitaxic growth of carbide layers on tantalum substrate. EBSD analysis highlights the crystallographic relations between each phase.Tantalum carbide layers are highly carbon concentrated. So the growth of carbide layers has to be controlled during the carburizing treatment. Several parameters may affect carbide layers growth : process parameters (time and temperature of carburizing treatment) and external parameters such as the reactive surface of the samples. The influence of these parameters on tantalum carbide growth kinetics has been studied. In addition, the diffusion of carbon in tantalum has been modeled with CASTEM© software. Experimental data are used to compute parameters of the model, such as carbon diffusion coefficient in tantalum.Other microstructures than TaC can be obtained on surface by applying an annealing treatment after carburizing. With this treatment, the carbon contained on surface diffuses to the bulk of the metal. Annealing treatment parameters have been determined to get on surface TaC, or Ta2C, or carbon saturated tantalum with Ta2C precipitates.

Caractérisation et modélisation des propriétés à la fatigue à grand nombre de cycles des aciers cémentés à partir d'essais d'auto-échauffement sous sollicitations cycliques / Characterization and model of high cycle fatigue of carburizing steel with self-heating measurement under cyclic load

Graux, Nicolas 24 November 2017 (has links)
The rolling contact fatigue prediction between two carburizing part quickly becomes complex. On one hand, the carburizing treatment give heterogeneous properties in surface layer depending on the treatment protocol. On the other hand, the rolling contact load is a complex load with a fatigue initiation in the sub-layer. To limit the duration of the field fatigue properties characterization, self-heating measurements under cycle load are used and their interpretation by a probabilistic two scales model is proposed. Nevertheless applying this fatigue evaluation method on heterogeneous material and for rolling contact load can be difficult. ln first approach those difficulties are split. To take into account the material heterogeneity, an analysis based on a variation of one probabilistic two scales model and on carbon rate measurement is proposed. Model parameters are identified on one steel class with self-heating measurement made on specimens representative of carburizing material heterogeneity. Finally the model is validated by comparison with experimental fatigue point.Making self-heating measurement for rolling contact load is complex. Consequently a first self-heating measurement campaign is made on the intermediary case of repeated contact. With a simple analytic model, the temperature field evolution can be linked to a mean heat source whose link with fatigue mechanism must be proven. Finally, rolling contact machine prototypes are proposed. Self-heating measurement made on those prototypes and their interpretation suggest that it will be possible to identify fatigue properties with self-heating measurement.
