School leavers’ perceptions of Nursing as a career of choice

Mphahlele, Nomonde Euphonia 23 November 2011 (has links)
This quantitative study used a cross-sectional descriptive survey to determine school leavers' perceptions of nursing as a career of choice and how those perceptions influence them in choosing or not choosing nursing as a career. A sample size of Grade 12 school leavers was (n=328). Respondents were invited to participate voluntarily In the study and were selected from 11 public schools from five regions in the Johannesburg district stratified random sampling was employed to select the participating public schools In order to determine the number of respondents per region while the school regions were used as strata. Simple random sampling was used to select participating schools with school names from the sampling frame printed on paper, separated and placed in each bowl representing each of the five regions. Schools were selected randomly from each bowl until the desired sample size was reached. Data was collected by using a 21-itern self-administered questionnaire with closed- and open-ended questions to elicit and describe the school leavers' perceptions of nursing as a career of choice and how those perceptions influence them in choosing or not choosing nursing as a career. Data was analysed through SPSS (Statistical Package for The Social Sciences) Version 13. Results of the study revealed that the perceptions held by school leavers are that nursing as a career of choice is amongst the least popular, less interesting and poorly appealing. This supports the hypothesis that nursing is rated poorly when compared to other career choices of school leavers. Interest in nursing as a career of choice could only be stimulated if the school leavers are given clear, accurate and continuous information on nursing to create awareness about nursing as a career of choice.

Reserach of Realationship in Job Characteristics,Career Development And Professional Commitment of The Clinical Physical Therapist

Lee, Chiu-ju 06 August 2004 (has links)
Physical Therapy has been developing in Taiwan for over half a century. However, the transformation in Taiwan population structure, the implementation of national health insurance, the legislation of physical therapist regulation in 1995 and the change of the education system stimulated the blossom of the physical therapy profession from four to five hundred certified physical therapists initially to twenty five hundred to date. This research devotes to the relationship between the job characteristics, potential of career development, and professional commitment of the practicing physical therapists. We approach the indicated part of professional commitment by these four elements; including professional identification, job involvement, intention of long-term involvement, advanced research and study. This research employed the following methods, descriptive statistics analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and regression analysis. We sent out a total of 1290 surveys and got 256 returned. There were 6 invalid surveys in returned ones. So we obtained 250 valid surveys. We acquired these results below: 1.Personal related variables suggest significant difference in professional commitment, partially legitimate. Age, education level, and annual income suggest no significant difference. Gender suggests significant difference in professional commitment; marriage suggests significant difference to job involvement. Job location suggests significant difference in job involvement. Attendance to professional conferences suggests significant difference in professional identification, job involvement, intention of long-term involvement and advanced research and study. 2.Job characteristics influences professional commitment significantly, a valid statement. Task variety, job autonomy and task identity also influence professional commitment significantly. 3.Potential of career development influences professional commitment significantly, a legitimate statement. Professional environment and possibility of independent practice influence professional commitment significantly.

Psykoterapeutens begär? : Varför väljer man att utbilda sig till psykoterapeut?

Erosson, Markus January 2010 (has links)

Olofsson, Sven January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the mutual impact which social relations and entrepreneurship had in relation to the success of four actors in a rural area in northern Sweden at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Many Swedish scholars have studied the process of social differentiation, before the industrial revolution. However, we still know very little about the forces behind this process, why some peasant households became more successful than others, especially during the first half of the nineteenth century when the economic differences were increasing. To grasp this process, the notion of social position has been used as a tool to grade the population on a scale from low- to high-ranked households in an economic and political sense. The fact that households were more or less successful turns our attention to the ability among individuals and households to change their social position. A theoretical concept chosen to investigate such change is the notion of entrepreneur, which implies a focus on the actor working for personal profit in a changing economic world. The main question has been how important social relations connected to entrepreneurship are in order to promote success among peasant households in the pre-industrial society. The empirical investigation has been conducted on two different levels. The first level is a structural study analysing the physical landscape of the court district of Rödön, the economic stratification and the political activity of the population in the area and, finally, their economic behaviours as peasants and rural businessmen. The second is a qualitative study emphasising on four individual actors: the businessman Per Wikström in the town of Östersund and three of the most successful peasant households in the region. The four case studies reveal that the rural elite had a pragmatic and dynamic approach to choosing social relations outside the family. Many acquaintances grew persistent and embedded in family or kinship relations, whereas others were short-lived or sacrificed for a calculated economic gain.
