Statistical review of radiology registrars after hours computed tomography reporting accuracyTerreblanche, Owen Dale January 2012 (has links)
A Research report submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the
Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the
degree of Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology.
Johannesburg, 2012 / Background:
There is a heavy reliance on registrars for afterhours CT reporting with a resultant unavoidable error rate. This study was done to determine this error rate.
Material and Methods:
A 2 month prospective study was undertaken. Provisional CT reports issued by the registrar on call were reviewed information relating to the errors made during the call were recorded and analyzed.
Results:
1477 CT scans were performed with an overall error rate of 17.1%. A significant difference was found between trauma (15.8%) compared to non-trauma scans (19.2%). The difference between emergency scans (16.9%) and elective scans (22.6%) was not significant. Abdominopelvic scans elicited the highest error rate (33.9%). Increasing workload resulted in a significant increase in error rate. Missed findings were the most frequent errors (57.3%). Error rate decreased with increasing year of training.

Perception of palliative care practice of health care professionals in a mental institution : a descriptive studyTanner, Carolyn A. January 1991 (has links)
The purpose of this descriptive study is to investigate the perception of practice of health care professionals at a mental institution, as it pertains to their work with dying patients, and also to identify areas of change. The conceptual framework is constructed of six factors important to palliative care that have been identified from the literature. These are personal death anxiety, organizational structure of the hospital system, role expectations of professionals, teamwork, education and training for care of the dying, and conveyance and exchange of diagnostic information. The sample surveyed by a written questionnaire included physicians, psychiatrists, health care workers, social workers and pastoral care workers from the Geriatric Division of Riverview Hospital, Port Coquitlam. The findings indicate that age, sex, marital status and length of working experience at Riverview Hospital had no significant association with personal death anxiety. Informal education such as workshops and in-services had a significant correlation with personal death anxiety, as did perception of being competent and/or confident about working with the dying. The study also raised concerns that not all was being done for the dying patients and their families at this institution. Suggestions such as education and training, support mechanisms, and less stereotyping of professional roles were
offered to improve this situation. As well, findings indicated that there was a need for palliative care service either in the form of a team or separate unit, or simply the practicing of the palliative care philosophy. / Arts, Faculty of / Social Work, School of / Graduate

Examining the Educational Depth of Medical Case Reports and Radiology with Text MiningCollinsworth, Amy L. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation was to use the technology of text mining and topic modeling to explore unobserved themes of medical case reports that involve medical imaging. Case reports have a valuable place in medical research because they provide educational benefits, offer evidence, and encourage discussions. Their form has evolved throughout the years, but they have remained a key staple in providing important information to the medical communities around the world with educational context and illuminating visuals. Examining medical case reports that have been published throughout the years on multiple medical subjects can be challenging, therefore text mining and topic modeling methods were used to analyze a large set of abstracts from medical case reports involving radiology. The total number of abstracts used for the data analysis was 68,845 that were published between the years 1975 to 2022. The findings indicate that text mining and topic modeling can offer a unique and reproducible approach to examine a large quantity of abstracts for theme analysis.

Disorders of the sustentaculum tali and the medial trochlear ridge of the talus in horses: Novel findings and surgical management of five casesTommasa, Simone Della, Scharner, Doreen, Brehm, Walter, Troillet, Antonia 05 June 2024 (has links)
The sustentaculum tali (ST) is located at the medial aspect of the tarsus and is considered
a rare anatomic location for diseases. This retrospective case series describes
the management of five horses with septic and non-septic ST injuries. All horses were
treated surgically with tenovaginoscopy, ST fragment and exostosis removal. In two
cases, lameness was caused by an exostosis involving the ST and the plantar aspect of
the medial trochlear ridge (MTR). There are no reports of exostosis involving ST and
MTR causing lameness. In four horses, the long-termoutcome was considered good and
the horses were able to return to the previous level; one horse developed a recurrence
of ST and MTR exostosis leading to recurrence of lameness. Curettage of the ST and
MTR exostosis, removal of fragments and tarsal sheath adhesions play a pivotal role in
increasing prognosis and long-termoutcome. Poor prognosis is correlated with exostosis
recurrence.

Spolupráce mezi učitelem a rodiči na počátku školní docházky / Cooperation between teacher and parents at the beginning of the school attendanceMendová, Monika January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with forms of cooperation between family - school, their meaning at the beginning of the school attendance, the benefit of the individualization of the child's needs and the educational progress. Action research seeking to answer the question under what conditions the cooperation with parents has a positive impact on the learning progress of the child and in the individual case reports we describe the effective forms of the cooperation which contribute to the principle of the individualization in the education of children. Other methods in the context of the action research are: interview, e-mail correspondence, observation, recording, tripartite meetings, performances, evaluation. During our research we managed to establish cooperation with all parents of the pupils of the language course and also individualize their needs with regard to their cognitive abilities and home background. We have found that the parents are willing to cooperate if the teacher is able to create conditions for that not only at school but also whether he or she can choose appropriate strategies and forms of cooperation with regard to domestic conditions of the pupil. The contribution of this study is to implement an approach focused on the child and its individual development and to verify the...

Do imperativo ético à demonstração empírica: o Projeto Letras e Livros no Embu das Artes / Fighting illeteracy at school: from ethic imperativ to realityPinto, Laura Dantas de Souza 12 December 2008 (has links)
The main purpose of this investigation was to answer the following question: what must schools do to fulfill completely their task of forming readers? I have related and analysed the procedures of the project Letras e Livros in the city of Embu das Artes/SP during the years 2002 to 2006, which produced a substantial reduction in the number of children who were not able read after four years of school. Positive effects of these actions suport our assumption, that individual personalysed help offered to socially and cognitinely vulnerable children were effective. They suported also the psychogenetically based hypothesis of the value of personally significant tasks and cooperative reading. Enlarging literary konowledge through oral readings was decisive too.The best case reports produced during the project were used for analysis and inspiring model prooving useful to improvement of professional skills.
