Is There A Glass Ceiling In Japan? : Occupational Segregation and Sex Differences inManagerial Promotions in Japan

Jintarith, Pimolporn, Vorayotsri, Nannapat January 2017 (has links)
This paper analyses the difference probability in holding managerial positions between men and women in Japan as the glass ceiling effect. In addition, we analyses whether the difference is affected by gender composition within the workplaces. We estimate two specifications of an ordered logit model on Japanese General Social Surveys (JGSS) as well as Japanese yearbook of labor statistics in the year 2010. The results indicate that there is different probability of holding managerial status that women have lower probability of holding managerial positions irrespective of management level comparing to men. However, we can observe that the differentials are decreasing as the managerial positions move up into higher managerial hierarchies. This finding indicates that women have higher chance to hold higher positions. Thus, it is contradict to our hypothesis. In addition, the result suggests that the gender composition also matter in probability of holding managerial status between male and female in Japan. We inspect that the difference probability in holding managerial status between genders is greater in female dominated occupation. This finding shows the effect of glass ceiling that occurs when women work in female dominated occupation as it follows the theory.

Real collars as alternative incentives for subsidizing energy facilities

Adkins, Roger, Paxson, D. 2018 November 1915 (has links)
Yes / We suggest that real collars may be acceptable incentives for encouraging development of low (or no) carbon energy generating facilities as an alternative for high feed‐in‐tariffs. We provide novel analytical solutions for real collars and partial collars, plus floor and ceiling partial derivatives. The ‘gains/losses’ of the energy generator as perceived parameter values change are compared to those of the government providing the collar, and floor or ceiling only, viewing the arrangement as a real option game between principal and agent. A volatility increase first increases, then decreases the ‘gains’ of the generator.

Sustainable RDSM strategy for South Africa

Taljaard, G W 12 January 2007 (has links)
An estimated 20% of South Africa's population is currently housed in low cost dwellings. These dwellings are extremely energy inefficient and it has been shown that these households spend almost 20% of their disposable income on heating in winter. This situation is undesirable for both the home owners and ESKOM who must ensure an unusually high electricity demand especially on winter nights. Some of the people don't use electricity for heating but fire and this contributes to the high levels of pollution in these communities. By ensuring better energy efficiency in these houses the demand for electricity will decrease and the pollution levels will obviously decrease as well. The process that strive to reduce this electricity demand is called Residential Demand Side Management (RDSM) and is strongly supported by ESKOM. This dissertation investigated the international experience concerning RDSM and some of the possible steps that could be taken to establish an RDSM program in South Africa. It was discovered that the two most important steps relevant for South Africa would be to install ceilings in low cost dwellings and to install insulation in middle income and low-income households. Various computer simulations using QUICKcontrol, a thermal design software package, was done to assess the effect that these steps would have on energy usage. Before any decisive steps could be taken to install these products in houses, it was important to hear what the public thought of the low-cost ceiling concept. It was decided to conduct a Socio Economic study to estimate the public opinion and the response towards the low cost ceiling turned out to be extremely favorable. The participants supported the idea of a low cost ceiling but the access to the ceiling might still prove to be difficult. Through experience it was found that people often don't want to invest in a certain product if the only benefit is a slight monetary saving. It has become necessary to investigate other aspects concerning the ceiling and insulation that would encourage people to buy into the concept. This line of thinking led to the "Comfort" study. The finding that insulation will ensure that almost three times more people are satisfied with their indoor situation is quite significant. The improvement of the indoor aesthetics if a ceiling is installed in a low-income dwelling is also an important consideration when a decision has to be made to install the product. This type of information could persuade people to purchase these products to the benefit of themselves, ESKOM, the insulation manufacturer and the environment. / Dissertation (M Eng (Mechanical Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering / unrestricted

Hotel / Hotel

Bajtošová, Lenka January 2021 (has links)
The subject of the diploma thesis is the design of a hotel with a wellness center in the cadastral area of Spišské Tomášovce. The building is atypical in shape and is made up of three floors. In front of the hotel there are parking spaces for guests and employees, from the back of the building there is a connection to the road for the purpose of supply. From the main entrance it can be entered either into the hotel lobby or directly into the restaurant. The operating part of the hotel is separated from the part used by hotel guests. The hotel’s wellness and fitness center is accessible from the hotel lobby, but also through an external entrance north of the main guest entrance. On the second floor there are double rooms and double rooms with extra beds. On the third floor there are double and quadruple apartments with kitchen. From the construction point of view, the house is designed as an object made of lime-sand blocks insulated with mineral wool 200 mm thick. It is also formed by reinforced concrete ceilings and a flat single-skin roof. The diploma thesis is processed in the form of project documentation for the construction.

Renesanční malířská výzdoba kazetových stropů ve vybraných zámcích v Čechách / Renaissance Painting Decoration of Coffered Ceilings in Selected Castles in Bohemia

Henslová, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Renaissance Painting Decoration of Coffered Ceilings in Selected Castles in Bohemia" first briefly introduces the most important examples of aristocratic residences with painted coffered ceilings in Bohemia. Painted coffered ceilings in Bohemia primarily occurred in the main halls of castles and palaces in the second half of the 16th century. The main part of thesis deals with two noble residences with painted coffered ceilings. Deal with detailed ceiling paintings Knights' Hall in the castle Telč and ceiling paintings of four halls Častolovice chateau. Attention is focused on themes ceiling paintings, their description and comparison with graphic templates. To the present day we have original coffered ceiling Knight Hall Castle in Telč with subjects from classical mythology (Hercules deeds). The author of the iconographic program was probably Zacharias of Hradec (1527-1589), who was one of the most powerful aristocrats in the Kingdom of Bohemia, and had the opportunity during his trip to northern Italy in 1551 acquainted with Italian art. The pride of the Častolovice chateau is especially large main hall with a coffered ceiling with 24 scenes from the Old Testament and other smaller hall with biblical scenes. This hall adjoin two smaller rooms with painted coffered ceilings with...
