Úloha laterality mozku v agonistickém chování jelena evropského II / Role of laterality in agonistic behaviour of red deer II

Jirsová, Adéla January 2016 (has links)
The theoretical part of this diploma thesis deals with the role of brain laterality of red deer (Cervus elaphus) in agonistic behaviour. Therefore, the largest part of the review of published scientific outcome is devoted to the agonistic behaviour, namely it focuses on the fights between males during the autumn rut. Battles are strictly ritualized and males adhere to strict rules. The role of laterality in animals is being recently studied and the outcomes so far indicates that, particularly in agonistic interactions the laterality may play a significant role. Brain lateralization is simply a preference for one or the other hemisphere in certain activities. The main topic of this thesis is how laterality affects combat of red deer. The research part took place in a deer-park Zátoň where the duels between stags in rut were recorded. We also used videos from farms Podlesko and Žalany and a deer-park Milešov. These records were processed in the program Noldus Observes, with emphasis placed on the facts which deer was the initiator of the fight and his position to opponent, or with which eye the opponent was perceived at the beginning, but also during the fight. Data were statistically evaluated in SAS software (version 9.4., SAS Institute Inc.). We observed a strong tendency that the winner also initiates the interaction. Chance, that the winner will be the initiator, was compared to recipient 15 times higher. Initiator estimates his option in the battle to win, so he does not let the duel quit before it comes to physical confrontation. Regardless of the character of the behaviour initiator approached his rival more likely on right eye. There was statistically significant demonstrated initiator access to the recipient from the right side in parallel walk as well as in direct physical engagement. As stags train fights during the whole year, so even in the rut are information processed by the left hemisphere, which controls the routine affairs. We can say, that the deer fights during the rut are so frequent, when applies the routine of using antlers as a weapons and therefore we observe right side preference.

Zhodnocení povahových testů vybraných plemen psů / Analyze of the selection tests in dogs

Kadlecová, Irena January 2016 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to assess and analyse the value of the character test in general, both in the Czech Republic and Sweden. Their quality to reveal the real personality, emotional stability, fear reactivity and aggressive reactions. Czech character test is required as a condition for breeding for both Belgian and Australian shepherds by the Belgian Shepherd Club of Czech Republic. The aim of the analysis is to measure the differences between the tasks and the results of the Czech character test and highly-developed Swedish Mental test that reveals the character in a more complex way and is generally more demanding also from time management side. Furthermore the analysis explores the possible relation between the results of the character tests and trial performance in dogs undergoing this research. The testing ran in three terms, while both tests were conducted in a single day for each participant. The target group were owners of Belgian and Australian shepherds with dogs between 1 to 4 years old. The total number of tested dogs is 17. The Swedish test proved higher connectivity of the tasks (high correlations) as wells as higher results variability between tested animals as opposite of the Czech test. The results of this pilot project study did not show any connection between the high score in the test and higher probability of passing the working exam, although this result can be influenced by low number of animals tested and their lower age. This study works as pilot applied research to increase the effectivity and simplify the testing of working dogs, however, it is essential for next stages of research to focus on concrete parts of the test and their connectivity to the dog behaviour in a given situation.

Thesis is deals about evaluation of welfare in diferent conditions in horse breeding. The aim is to characterize the welfare of horses in the stables monitored including pastoral areas, setting out the main values of welfare for the experiment, all to assess, prepare and submit proposals for improvement. To obtain data were compiled questionnaire survey. To the study was visited 26 stables with a total of 100 horses. The study included stables with individual boxes, group boxes, stanchion barns and today very prosperous stay in the pasture. It found the combination of individual box and grazing. In terms of welfare was further assessment of feeding, health care and social behavior in the herd of horses and behavior to humans. The most numerous breed was rated Czech Warmblood, English Thoroughbred, but draught-horse horse too. The number of 52 horses used for recreational riding. The most common type of housing is in box, which spent 37% of evaluated horses. Another very popular type of breeding horses is on pasture, which accounted for 35% of horses. Evaluation was carried out of stall the type of housing and at 8 horses. Up to 60% of horses is moderate condition. Direct contact with other horses is 96%. Top Rated welfare was the larger ones stables, but at the expense of a large workload horses. The worst welfare had stable with one horse where the horse has a very poor environmental conditions and care.

Otcovská role harémového samce: Analýza interakcí hřebec-hříbě

ŠANDLOVÁ, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to analyze the interactions between stallion and his offspring in two socially natural herds of Exmoor ponies. These interactions have not been thoroughly revised yet. We studied and compared aggressive and friendly interactions, snapping of the foals and play behavior between the individuals, with the main focus on the foal-stallion interactions. The results suggest, that the stallion is the most common adult recipient of foal behaviour and can play an important role in the foals motorical and social development.
