A representação do espaço em escritos da margem - as crônicas de João do Rio e Ernesto Lara Filho / The space representation written in the margin João do Rio and Ernesto Lara Filho chronicles

Portela, Ana Paula Valentim 24 April 2008 (has links)
This paper proposal is to analyze the representation of side spaces in the chronicles of journalists Joao do Rio and Ernesto Lara Filho. They are physical and literary spaces, where characters of peculiar habits and identities live. These ones figures on the real and symbolic development of Brazilian social and political history in the turn of XIX century and also in pre independence of Angola. By means of hybrid kinds of chronicle these authors cover the tortuous ways of their societies, both of them raised from explicit contexts of social and human discrimination, inheritances of the same colonization, that crosses through the exercise of a felonious literature carried by writers who enjoyed the reality at the same time they fiercely (strongly) criticized the modernity and progress illusion of their time.

The Chronicler's Genealogies:Towards an Understanding of 1 Chronicles 1-9

J.Sparks@murdoch.edu.au, James Thomas Sparks January 2007 (has links)
The genealogies of 1 Chronicles 1-9 have typically been viewed as the work of a redactor or redactors with no internal consistency, purpose or plan, and little, if any, relation to the narrative portions of Chronicles. In contrast to these opinions, this study shows that the genealogical section of the Chronicler's work is an ordered, well structured, unified whole. The Chronicler presents his genealogies chiastically, with the central focus of the chiasm upon the proper cultic officials, performing the proper cultic duties, in the proper cultic place. Each of the supporting levels of the chiasm build to this climax by declaring the inability of kings and armies to maintain the people within their land. The genealogies indicate that, in spite of the best efforts of leaders or people, society is sent into exile because of the unfaithfulness of the people and their leaders. The genealogies also declare the way out of exile. Humility and prayer are shown to bring blessing, prosperity and land, while periods of mourning over unfaithful behaviour results in the blessings of children and the building of cities. In the centre of it all is the cult. The cult is the means by which atonement is made for past acts of unfaithfulness, and without the cult, atonement for unfaithfulness is impossible. The genealogies indicate that the cult must be at the centre of the lives of the people. It cannot be neglected, but must be fully maintained and supported. Each of the cultic guilds must be present for the cult to function properly. Each guild must perform its function, and must do so in the place authorised by Yahweh. Only then can atonement for the people be made, and only then can the people possess their land.

KVĚTOVÁ, Miroslava January 2014 (has links)
The thesis entitled The Chronicles of Burghers from České Budějovice Jan Jiří Millauer and Jan Eichler and His Son Jan Antonín Eichler from the Second Half of 18th Century and Their Mutual Comparison is divided into four chapters. The first one is devoted to the chronicle of Jan Jiří Millauer and is divided into several other parts, which describe externals of this manuscript, present the content of the book in detail and characterize the person of writer or recorder Jan Jiří Millauer. The first chapter is also devoted to issues of filiation of the chronicle, reasons of its emergence and its further history. The second chapter is also divided into several parts, which are devoted to the same issues as the first chapter, but this time in the context of the chronicle of Jan Eichler and his son Jan Antonín Eichler. Records from both chronicles are closely compared in the third chapter. The last chapter presents an attempt to compare records with each other extant chronicle of burghers from České Budějovice from the early modern period, especially to compare them with chronicles from the second half of 18th century. The thesis includes a list of references and sources and in the appendix of the thesis there are the editorial note, the scientific editions of the Chronicle of Jan Jiří Millauer and of the Chronicle of Jan Eichler and his son Jan Antonín Eichler, the local index and writing samples of the edited chronicles.

Postava krále Přemysla Otakara II. v českých kronikách - historie a literární fikce / The character of Přemysl Otakar II. in Czech chronicles - history and literary fiction

VAŇKOVÁ, Martina January 2015 (has links)
The thesis The Character of Přemysl Otakar II. in Czech Chronicles History and Literary Fiction is analysing, as the name suggests, the image of Přemysl Otakar II. in chronicles. For this purpose, writings from the High and Late Middle Ages were selected; they are Kronika tak řečeného Dalimila, Zbraslavská kronika of abbot Ota and Petr Žitavský, Kronika of František Pražský, Kronika česká of Přibík Pulkava z Radenína, Kronika česká of Jan Marignola and Stručné sepsání římské a české from Neplach. From the period of humanism chosen writings are Historie česká of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini and Kronika česká of Václav Hájek z Libočan. The first task of this thesis is not only to interpret the subjective attitude of each historian, but also to compare their opinions with each other, taking into account the period in which the writings were created. Another aim of the thesis is to capture the similarities and differences in interpretations of selected stories of medieval and humanistic chroniclers and also their comparison with the views of contemporary historians.

The Death of Josiah: Cultural Trauma and Social Identity in the Book of Chronicles

Youngberg, Brendan G. January 2019 (has links)
Most scholars would agree that Josiah’s death in the Book of Chronicles is negatively portrayed, especially as contrasted with his laudable Passover. But why should the king par excellence, according to 2 Kings, die such an ignominious death in the Chronicler’s portrayal? By applying a methodological framework derived from cultural trauma theory in its relation to social identity theory, this dissertation argues that the Chronicler’s negative recounting of Josiah’s death not only marks the initiation of cultural trauma for the Chronicler’s community but ends by encouraging the hopeful alleviation of the community’s enduring cultural trauma. In analysing the Chronicler’s markers of cultural trauma within the context of the social identities that appear in the genealogies and subsequent narratives in the book of Chronicles, the failure of Josiah can be most clearly seen in his seeking battle with Pharaoh Neco without seeking YHWH. Not only did Josiah fail to heed the word of God not to confront Neco, but his very disobedience initiates the cultural trauma experienced through the fall of Jerusalem and subsequent forced migration, which follows swiftly after the death of Josiah according to the Chronicler. In turn, the narrative of Josiah’s death is connected to the cultural trauma of the broader community primarily through the appearance of Jeremiah. The first reference of Jeremiah in the book of Chronicles has him issuing a lament in the wake of Josiah’s death (2 Chr 35:25), while Jeremiah’s final reference recounts the fulfilment of his prophecy of “seventy years” rest (2 Chr 36:21-22) signalling the end of forced migration in the wake of the fall of Jerusalem. At the same time, by examining the Chronicler’s markers of cultural trauma, this dissertation presents evidence that the Chronicler is seeking to recategorize the community within a superordinate identity of “all Israel” as a means to alleviate their cultural trauma that was initiated and symbolised by the death of Josiah. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Date of 1 Chronicles With Special Reference To The Chronicler's Treatment of King David

Satterly , Mark Philip 11 1900 (has links)
<p> The purpose of this thesis is to challenge the scholarly consensus regarding the historical circumstances which led to the writing of 1 Chronicles by a close examination of the nature and function of the Chronicler's treatment of David. There has to be a reason for the stress which is placed on David by the Chronicler, especially at a time when there was no monarchy ruling in Judah. Much of the study which has been carried out on Chronicles has concentrated to a large extent on linguistic evidence. Linguistic evidence alone, however, is insufficient for drawing any solid conclusions. Thus, the attempt is being maae here to seel-: some answers on thematic evidence. This involves a close study of the Chronicler's treatment of David and the suggestion that David is to be equated with the post-exilic governor of Judah, Zerubbabel. The concentration on the Chronicler's interpretation of the figure of ravid is being used to demonstrate the possibility of reaaing 1 Chronicles as the historical expression of the :novement inspired by the prophecies of Haggai and Proto Zechariah.</p> <p> During the course of the thesis, attention is drawn to the difficulties surrounding the dating of 1 Chronicles as a result of the work of many red.actors, which is evident throughout the book. It becomes more difficult to assign the entire work, in its present form, to 8ny one period in the post-exilic era. However, despite this difficulty, a comparison of the major themes in 1 Chronicles and those in Haggai and Proto Zechariah shows that it is at least possible to date the original form of 1 Chronicles somewhere in the period of 520-515 BCE.</p> / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

The Diploma´s thesis The Commemorative Books of Volyně´s vicarage in 17th - 19th century deals with parish chronicles survived in this administrative district. Its endeavour is to describe and characterize them and its aim is to consider and present them from different points of view. The thesis is divided up into seven chapters. The very first of them appraise state of research passed off up to now and introduces related literature created so far. The second one brings basic information concerning church administration in the Czech Countries from the very beginning up to the establishment of vicarage system. The third chapter deals with history of Volyně´s vicarage and presents some of issues, of which resolution this administrative office was in charge. The third chapter describes orders for keeping parish chronicles. The fourth chapter describes all commemorative books survived in the administrative district. Inside and outside description of all the chronicles is introduced in this chapter, as well as determination of particular authors. On the basis of the sources acquired I endeavoured to describe common features of individual parish chronicles, to compare them with municipal chronicles and submit some of the potential ways of usage of commemorative books of parish office in the field of historical research as well. The very last chapter recapitulates and summarizes the acquired finding. Other potential ways and methods of progress which may be used are highlighted and pointed out here. At the end of the thesis, there is a list of literature and attachments which are composed of charts filled in with authors of records of particular parish chronicles. All the researched and examined parish chronicles are summarized in the attachments as well. Beside the charts, there are also plenty of photographs which depict all the researched parish chronicles, examples of manuscript or interesting pictures from several commemorative books.
