Com o propósito de indexar, em bases de dados de literatura científica, a coleção editorial U.Porto Press, cuja área de atuação é comunicar e difundir o conhecimento científico, via materialização de criações intelectuais meritórias, criou-se um fio condutor entre a linha editorial e os critérios de seleção preconizados pelas bases de dados BKCI e SCOPUS Book Titles. O objetivo desta ponte foi selecionar o maior número de livros candidatos à indexação (em bases de dados), criando as bases para futura submissão. Para o efeito, num primeiro momento, caracterizaram-se os livros publicados pela U.Porto Press, recorrendo ao processamento estatístico dos dados obtidos diretamente dos livros. Daí decorrente, deram-se a conhecer, por um lado, o número de candidatos reais para submissão a cada uma das bases de dados identificadas e, por outro, os filtros aplicados na gradual redução dos candidatos. Num segundo momento, avançou-se para o tratamento técnico da coleção editorial, concretamente para a catalogação e indexação (por assuntos). Na catalogação, elaborou-se, tão-só, um template, com a identificação dos blocos e respetivos campos de preenchimento obrigatório e, outrossim, com recomendações. Na indexação (por assuntos), incidiu-se na linguagem vocabular e na classificação BISAC. De seguida, discriminou-se a amostra dos livros candidatos para indexação em BKCI e SCOPUS Book Titles, dando-se instruções para a preparação da amostra a submeter às bases de dados. No final, num quarto momento, criou-se um manual de procedimentos sobre indexação de livros em bases de dados científicas a implementar na U.Porto Press. As principais conclusões são, a saber: (1) número reduzido de livros candidatos (24 livros) à indexação em bases de dados internacionais de literatura científica, comparativamente aos 154 livros editados pela U.Porto Press; (2) necessária revisão da linha editorial U.Porto Press, de modo a aperfeiçoá-la e a assegurar, de futuro, um maior número de livros candidatos. / In order to index the U.Porto Press collection, which aims to communicate and spread scientific knowledge through valuable intellectual works, in scientific literature databases, we created a common thread between the editorial line and the selection criteria prescribed by the BKCI and SCOPUS Book Titles databases. The goal of this connection was to select the greatest number of books eligible for indexation (in databases), through the creation of a solid basis for future submission. For this purpose, first the books published by U.Porto Press were characterized using the statistical processing of the data obtained directly from the books. Afterwards, we presented the number of real candidates for submission to each of the identified databases, on one hand, and the filters applied during the gradual reduction of the candidates, on the other hand. At a second stage, we undertook the technical processing of the collection, namely for the listing and indexation (by subjects). During the listing, we created a template with the groups' identification and the respective mandatory fields, together with recommendations. During the indexation (by subjects), we focused on the terminological language and on the BISAC classification. After this, we indicated the sample group of books eligible for indexation in BKCI and SCOPUS Book Titles, giving instructions for the preparation of the sample to be submitted to the databases. At a last stage, we created a manual of proceedings for the indexation of books in scientific databases to be used by U.Porto Press. The main conclusions are: (1) the small number of eligible books (24 books) for the indexation in international databases of scientific literature, when compared with the 154 books edited by U.Porto Press; (2) the need to review the U.Porto Press editorial line, in order to improve it and to ensure the existence of a greater number of eligible books in the future.
