Identity Formation Process Of Young Generation Educated Palestinians In Israel In The 1990s

Ercan, Suna 01 June 2004 (has links) (PDF)
The main purpose of the present study is to explore the tendencies regarding identity definition of young generation educated Arabs who are Israeli citizens. The internal and external dynamics in the 1990s are investigated in relation to their impact on the identity formation of young generation educated Arabs in Israel. The aspirations and demands of the case study group on the civic and national grounds are analyzed. The research topic is focused on the changing attitudes of the Arab community in Israel by taking into consideration of previous years but putting emphasis on the recent decade. The common ground among the highly educated Israeli-Arabs is analyzed by questioning citizenship and minority rights. In-depth interviewing, observation and literature analysis were used as data collection techniques. Fieldwork has been done in Israel during the summer 2001. A qualitative study, using in-depth interviews with 9 selected educated young Arabs has been applied. All interviews were recorded, transcribed and the transcribed texts were used for discourse analysis. During the interviews political opinions, obstacles to powersharing and areas of discrimination, daily life, definition of national and civic identity, opinions on current issues throughout the world and in the region, education, language, culture and role as an educated group were inquired. Findings indicate that young generation educated Arabs of Israel under the impact of two processes Israelization and Palestinization, are radical in their attitudes. On the one hand, the new generation intellectuals have more or less succeeded to integrate to the Israeli society, but on the other hand their awareness of their personal/social and collective identity as a Palestinian citizen of Israel is high. Increased civic and national aspects led to a shift in their identity definitions. In this sense, they carry the characteristics of the new political trend which claims recognition for Arabs collectively as a national minority within the Israeli system. They prefer to be called as Palestinians who are Israeli citizens.

In order to achieve this objective, Law Projects (LP) and Legislative Decree Projects (LDP) have been proposed by FPE members that aimed at institutionalizing legally and politically the heterosexual and monogamous family as the only legitimate one, to the detriment of other arrangements, especially those formed by individuals that integrate the LGBT+ population. Speeches given by them have also been used and are available in the Diaries of the Chamber of Deputies. This research used a qualitative approach to reach the proposed objectives, through the explanation of the discourses of truth and later analysis with the necessary theoretical reference. We concluded that the defense of a truth about the family aims at perpetuating a traditional sexual morality based on the submission of the woman to the man and that is put in check by families formed by LGBT+ people, as they question the social roles attributed to men and Women in society. In addition, we came to the conclusion that this defense, made by political and religious agents, sets challenges to secularism, democracy and the consolidation of the citizenship of LGBT+ people.

The proposition of the workshops is supported in the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Social Occupational Therapy and the education for freedom advocated by Paulo Freire. Using several resources, it has been constituted as a social technology of approaching, life project (re)construction and the enlargement of the support net for youngsters from urban popular groups in social vulnerability situations. Along the research, we tried to analyze what has been achieved compared to the established aims for the Activities Workshops that have been proposed and implemented by the METUIA‟s Nucleus from the Federal University of São Carlos. The METUIA Project is an interinstitutional group of studies, training and actions for the citizenship of children, adolescents and adults in process of rupture of the social support networks, created by teachers in the area of occupational therapy in three brazilian universities in 1998 with the proposal to develop projects in teaching, research and extension on the social field. We also tried in this study to understand the point of view of the youngsters about their life projects, their (im)possibilities of action and the forging of identities, in this space for reflection and (re)construction of meaning of his being-in-theworld , with potential for transformative action in their immediate contexts, in view of make them strong to face the adverse situations they are exposed. It is concluded that the accumulation of these experiences reveals some repositioning in the lives of youngsters, as well it has contributed to confront contemporary social problems and encouraged them to establish positive links; sociability and familiarity based on mutual respect and solidarity; participation; autonomy; and the reframe of their belonging to scholar environment. It has also provided subsides to discuss about the construction of a formal and non-formal educational propositions supported by democracy, and which carry a tensioning movement of the status quo.

Contra-hegemonia e legitimaÃÃo no controle social na saÃde: Avaliando os percursos e contradiÃÃes do Conselho Regional de SaÃde V em Fortaleza/CE / Counter-hegemony and legitimation in social control in health care: Assessing pathways and contradictions of the Regional Health V in Fortaleza / CE

Antonio Cleyton Martins MagalhÃes 09 January 2013 (has links)
The study approach the participation and the exercise of social control in the public politics (PP) of health care implemented in Fortaleza in SER V which is the region with the lowest IDH rate, starting from two analytical-concepts aspects: the notion of social control as the political-theoretical phenomenon and the Regional Council of Health V as the object of em-pirical research. In the first aspect, it is analyzed the globalization of wealth with financial domain and the repercussion in the State, in the PPs and in exercise of social control, consid-ering that the health care politics bring effects of economic crises, social inequality and ex-clusion prevailing in the current society. At the second aspect, its investigated the CRS V as a privileged instance in social control and participation in the SUS system, in the period of 2008 to 2012, since that the social control system of Fortaleza have the opposite resistance to the limits imposed by the current conjuncture. It is elected as analytical categories the Brazilian democratization, citizenship and rights, State and PPs, participation and social control. The central object of investigation is to understand and to evaluate the participatory dynamics and the exercise of social control in the context of contradictory confluence of the democratic pro-cesses and of the structural adjustments due of the reformulation of the Brazilian state. The theoretical-analytic basement supports itself in authors, such as: Karl Marx, Boaventura San-tos, IstivÃn MÃszaros, Zigmund Baumam, Pierre Bourdieu, Antonio Gramsci, Gilberto Freyre, SÃrgio Buarque de Holanda, Florestan Fernandes, GlÃria Gohn, Luciana Tatagiba, Elenaldo Teixeira, Alba Carvalho, Lea Carvalho. The evaluative research is outlined from a qualitative and critical-analytical approach and constitute in a case study with the using of type ethno-graphic techniques, using the followings research instruments: observations, field diary rec-ords, opened/closed forms and groups with the advisors. The methodological sketch covers the characterization of the sociopolitical profile of the subject advisors that compose the sys-tem of social control of the SER V, the comprehension of the dynamic running of the CRS V from the entanglement of the plurality of their looks, the explicitation of the boundaries, di-lemmas, contradictions and possibilities of the performance recognizing the evaluative pro-cess as results of the interpretations of the evaluator and the positions of the different subjects evaluated. In conclusive terms, the study says, in a more structural way, that the social recon-figuration and neoliberal politics reveal a trend to undermine the spaces of collective repre-sentation and of social control. Nevertheless the CRS V dawn in the advisor system of health of Fortaleza with autonomy and independence from the regional government, showing be possible the viability of exercise of social control in the local SUS, presents itself more like strategic space, with potential and defiant in face of the govern actions and less as an effective place of social control and strengthening civil society. Moreover the Council firm up as legit space that format political contexts, instance receiving complaints and promoting accuntabil-ity in SER V, which contributes to press for the implementation of political health care in line with the principles and guidelines of SUS.
