Mobile Communication Device Antennas for LTE/WWAN and LTE MIMO Operations

Kang, Ting-Wei 24 April 2011 (has links)
In this dissertation, not only the antenna and antenna array design techniques for fourth-generation mobile communication system are proposed, but also the specifications related to antenna bio-compatibility are studied. At first, two dual-wideband design techniques suitable to be applied for laptop computer applications for LTE/WWAN and LTE MIMO operations are proposed. The techniques can also be applied to internal tablet computer antennas. The isolation issues of MIMO antenna array of different mobile communication devices, such as laptop computer, tablet computer, and mobile phone, are then discussed. Finally, an analysis of body SAR for tablet computer applications are given and discussed.

EMC Internal Antennas for Mobile Communication Devices

Su, Chih-ming 24 May 2006 (has links)
In this dissertation, EMC antennas for mobile communication device applications are proposed. This kind of EMC antennas can overcome the problem that happens to the conventional antenna; in practical application, when electronic components are placed very close to the conventional antenna, large degradation of the antenna performance will occur. In the proposed EMC antennas, by adding a vertical antenna ground plane functioning as a shielding metal wall, EM coupling between the EMC antenna and nearby components can be reduced. Thus, it leads to no degradation or only negligible variations of the antenna performance. Also, the concept of EMC antennas can be applied to the monopole antenna. One of the examples suitable for the future thin (< 10 mm) mobile communication device is demonstrated. Further, the user¡¦s hand effects on EMC antenna performance are analyzed. Even when the mobile phone is hand-held at the bottom, large radiation efficiency drops are observed, especially for the GSM band.

Thin Internal Planar Antennas for Mobile Communication Devices

Lin, Yuan-chih 16 December 2006 (has links)
In this dissertation, thin internal antennas for mobile communication devices with a total thickness of less than 10 mm are proposed. There are mainly two differences in the antenna¡¦s construction between the proposed thin internal antennas and conventional planar inverted-F antenna. The first proposed antenna for thin internal antenna is a combo type formed by combining the conventional inverted-F antenna with the monopole antenna. The second proposed antenna is obtained by integrating two radiating arms into a radiating patch. By adjusting the tapering angle and the direction of the end portions, thin internal planar antenna with a thickness of less than 4 mm can be successfully achieved. In these two antennas, their Q-value can be lowered, and then the impedance bandwidth can be effectively improved. This kind of thin internal antennas not only has good impedance matching but also shows good radiation performance. Additionally, by adding a vertical metal wall acting as a RF shielding wall, EM fringing fields between the thin internal EMC antenna and nearby metal components can be effectively supressed. This kind of EMC antennas can effectively eliminate the isolation distance between the antenna and nearby conducting elements to increase the available space on the printed circuit board for additional functions. Besides, multi-band operation is another important function in current mobile devices. In this dissertation, we also studied the effects of the plastic casing and the user¡¦s hand and head on the antenna charateristics. For studying the antenna with the presence of the user¡¦s hand and head, the simulation model provided by SPEAG simulation software SEMCAD is used. From the results obtained, it is seen that the frequency detuning is greatly dependent on the presence of the user¡¦s hand and head. Owing to the presence of the user¡¦s hand and head, large decrease in the radiation efficiency is seen. It also indicates that the radiation efficiency decrease and radiation pattern distortion are mainly owing to the radiation power absorption by the user¡¦s hand and head.

Integrating Eco-design Thinking in Redesigning of a Communication Device : Eco-design strategies for sustainable product design and development

Kishore, Varun January 2022 (has links)
The current wave of environmental awareness in the market has led to an increase of sustainability demands by the consumers. The focus of manufacturing companies has increasingly shifted from end-of-pipe solutions to the environmental performance of products and services. Companies find themselves in a situation where they must simultaneously create value for consumers and be profitable while considering environmental considerations. A case study is performed to explore this issue from the perspective of several eco-design tools. The existing product development process of a DECT communication device is investigated through the lens of eco-design. The theory looks into the apparent benefits and unforeseen difficulties, barriers and other factors in adopting an eco-design approach amongst companies, particularly SMEs. An eco-design audit comprising assessments on organisation capacity and potential for eco-design is carried out. This is followed by the creation and implementation of a comprehensive eco-design tool to generate a simple yet effective checklist for corporations with operational strategies for sustainable product design. Since changes in the product development and/or production to accommodate a higher level of sustainability cannot be easily or readily implemented, the framework functions as a guide of strategies within different time-scopes.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Barbara Conceicao de Oliveira Barbosa.pdf: 829020 bytes, checksum: 4aae6411bb8dddcd637eb59b27ac5dcc (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-10-16 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This thesis analyzes humans connection with interactive mobile communication media in the social-historical context of cyberculture, understood as the material, symbolic and imaginary configuration of a time resulting from the technological transformations that took place in the second half of the 20th century. The main objective of the reflection is to understand the logic of mobility endowed with info-technological support in its close interconnection with the phenomenon of obliterated structural dependence. We seek to chart and explain the causes and implications of the context of individuals coupling, and also to question their condition within this civilizing process. The problem implied is that of the independence of subjects undergoing processes of increasingly intense connection with machines; these processes remain in the pre-symbolic plane, not presenting themselves socially as structural dependence. As the main hypothesis of this work, we consider that the urgent need to live in a condition of mobility widely infused with real-time connection is due to the management and control of urgent needs that are fed and executed on a long-lasting basis within mobile interactive contexts, although this does not consciously constitute obedience to the rules of the cybercultural regime. The research is based on the ideas of Bauman, Harvey, Jameson, Lyotard (post-modernity); Breton (communication utopia); Baudrillard and Sfez (regarding the self-referential aspect of communication); Virilio (sociodromology); Trivinho (cyberculture, cybercultural dromocracy and global phenomena); Bourdieu (the concept of habitus); Baudrillard, Bauman and Lipovetsky (on questions related to the consumer society); Lafontaine, Le Breton, Rüdiger, Sfez and Sibilia (technological imaginary and the human condition in present civilization); Breton and Flusser (artifice and communication), Heidegger and Rüdiger (regarding the issue of technique), among other relevant authors. These concepts and tendencies are articulated by means of a critical reflection based on the phenomenic understanding of the sociocultural and historical processes related to the manner of being of the present mediatic civilization, questioning the condition of the subject within this same civilization. This reflection has enabled the analysis and clarification of factors underlying daily socio-technological experience, inherent especially to the changes brought about by social investment in interactive mobility, contributing also to the development of critical epistemology in the area of Communication, in the field of studies of the media and computer networks in their present configuration / A presente Tese tem como objeto a análise da vinculação do humano em relação aos meios comunicacionais interativos móveis, no contexto social-histórico da cibercultura, entendida como configuração material, simbólica e imaginária de época, proveniente das transformações tecnológicas ocorridas a partir da segunda metade do século XX.
