The relationship between communication satisfaction and job satisfaction of elementary school principals

Villines, Valerie Faye January 1987 (has links)
Effective school studies showed that the principal -- as building leader -- is the key person in establishing and maintaining good schools; however, an extensive review of the literature revealed a lack of empirical data relevant to the relationship between the principal's level of job satisfaction end communication satisfaction. The purpose addressed in this study was to measure the relationship between communication satisfaction and job satisfaction of elementary school principals. Specific research questions addressed by the study were as follows: 1. How satisfied are elementary school principals with their jobs? 2. How satisfied are elementary school principals with the communication within their school system? 3. What is the relationship between job satisfaction and communication satisfaction of elementary school principals? The Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire developed and copywrited in 1974 by Downs and Hazen was utilized with revisions by the researcher. The population participating in the study was determined by selecting elementary school principals listed in the Tidewater Zone of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals. The computed correlation coefficients, which ranged from .09 to .41, indicated that a low positive relationship exists between the elementary principals stated job satisfaction, level of job satisfaction, level of productivity, and the eight dimensions and total communication satisfaction instrument. The conclusions presented in this study are the results of data collected from the elementary school principals toward the Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire. 1. Elementary principals were generally satisfied with their jobs. 2. Elementary principals were very satisfied with the communication within their school system. 3. A low positive relationship exists between the elementary principals' job satisfaction and communication satisfaction; however, observers/interpreters/researchers may be reasonably confident that a true relationship exists between job satisfaction and communication satisfaction of elementary school principals. / Ed. The impact of network communication in the capitalists relations of work: a study on freedom, power and Internet in the private enterprise

Maman, Armando 28 April 2008 (has links)
The research has as object the network communication practiced through the Internet in brazilian private companies and multinational companies operating in Brazil, privileging aspects and data on the use of computer and Internet by the employees. The aim was to understand, essentially, what are the standards that firms set for this type of activity use of the Internet as well as the reasons that lead to standardize the use of network communication. In addition to qualitative research promoted with 18 companies of medium and large sizes in various economic sectors, it was used data from the most recent survey of the Management Committee of the Internet in Brazil, which evaluated the use of this technology for communication in brazilian businesses and homes, disclosed in January 2007. As for results, it was found that information technologies have brought several innovations to the communication and working relationships, the main of them the fact that standards of behaviour prior written now are applied automatically by information systems. Moreover, it is realized that network communication, which many believe broad, free and democratic, it is appropriate in an authoritarian way by companies, that seek to control it through monitoring systems and permanent surveillance, thereby destroying the myth that techniques, by itself, alter how the means of production are articulated.

Roodt, Marco 20 May 2014 (has links)
D. Litt. et Phil. / The white paper on privatisation and deregulation in the Republic of South Africa, was tabled in 1987. This paper outlined a policy for the possible privatisation of state-owned enterprise. Generally this step was favourably met by "Big Business" and a number of political players, but rejected and resisted by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). This phenomena led to the central assumption of this study. It was assumed that the rejection of privatisation (or manifestations thereof, such as commercialisation) by COSATU, would not necessarily be indicative of the cognitions and attitudes which labour union employee members, hold of privatisation/commercialisation. The purpose of this study was to explore this assumption. This assumption was to be researched among a sample of official members of the South African Railway and Harbours Workers Union (SARHWU); an affiliate of COSATU. A further purpose was to explore the influence which an official communication action, (aimed at the employees of a commercialised parastatal), may have had on the cognition and attitude of the sample. The aim was to draw from these findings to formulate directives for the internal strategic communication management of commercialisation to black SARHWU members. To achieve this purpose, the concept privatisation and commercialisation were conceptualised, and fundamental differences between the two concepts highlighted. An extensive "theoretical study was undertaken to identify the communication principles on which the communication of innovation (change) are based. The concepts of privatisation/commercialisation and the principles of the communication of innovation, were integrated into a framework for the formulation of a communication strategy and strategic communication plan for commercialisation.

The Edu-Train project and the reduction of prejudice

Connolly, Esme 14 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. / However much ideologically diffuse argument there may be about the purposes of education, few would deny that it plays an integral part in the political and economical processes of societies. For the realities of power and the organisation of socio-economic structure are perhaps nowhere more clearly revealed than in a country's educational institutions. Education can maintain the existing social order as well as promote varying kinds of change (Toffler, 1971). Social scientists accept that "education is perhaps the most directly effective socialising activity serving the interests of dominant establishments" (Schlemmer, 1986: 1). Its curricula is a means of inculcating the political values as well as the skills required in the system of control and production in society (Wellington, 1987: 6). Education takes place relatively unobtrusively in homogenous societies but in deeply divided societies, it can become the focus of intense and often violent conflict. "In South Africa education is failing badly in what modern education is supposed to do draw different groups or classes together (Schlemmer, 1986: Preface). Hanf (1980), in addition, argues that education can do little to solve conflict in divided societies. He stresses that the significance of education in some societies lies in its negative role as a focus of conflict. Access to and equality of education for different groups has indeed been at the source of very bitter conflict throughout the world...

Government communication and dissemination of government information - the use of research to enhance effectiveness.

Strydom, Maria Sophia 05 July 2002 (has links)
There are indications of concern by governments for public opinion even centuries ago. The use of scientific research though, was only introduced by governments to enhance the effectiveness of government communication and the dissemination of government information during the last few decades of the twentieth century. The main aim with this research is to contribute towards improving the research used in South Africa by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) in order to enhance the effectiveness of government communication and the dissemination of government information. As research can contribute towards enhancing the effectiveness of government communication and the dissemination of government information, it is considered as being of critical importance to contribute towards improving the quality of relevant research in South Africa. No research has been conducted before in South Africa regarding the use of research to enhance the effectiveness of government communication and the dissemination of government information. The methodology used to address the aim and objectives of this research was that of a qualitative, non-empirical study conducted by means of a literature review. The research provides a brief theoretic overview of research in communication. It records the use of communication research by government in South Africa since 1936 as well as the process of transforming government communication after 1994. Furthermore, it records government communication and information dissemination in other countries, with specific reference to the use of research. Various conclusions derive from this research. Among these is a clear indication of the necessity of conducting communication research in a scientific way, by applying sound theoretical principles. It also indicates that there is a good platform and strategic framework from which government communication research in South Africa can be improved further, and that South Africa can learn from relevant research conducted by governments in other countries. The researcher presents a wide range of recommendations for consideration, as well as potential areas for further research regarding this broader theme. / Thesis (MA (Information Science))--University of Pretoria, 2001. / Information Science / unrestricted

Den kommunikativa organisationen – kejsarens nya kläder?

Börås, Frida January 2021 (has links)
Vilka professioner gynnas av just begreppet ”kommunikativ organisation”? / Purpose: The purpose of this study is to gain a greater understanding of what thoughts and feelings communication managers in eight Swedish municipalities have about the concept of "communicative organization", if and in such cases how the concept of "communicative organization" and research on the concept affect how one plans for and works with their communication and who benefits from the concept of "communicative organization". The focus of this study is on examining thoughts about the "communicative organization" (Heide et al, 2019) but also on whether and in such cases how the communicative organization differs from other similar "organizational labels"; for example, the listening organization, the innovative organization or the organization based on trust-based governance (Bringselius, 2017). Research question:  What do communication managers think about the concept of "communicative organization"? Does research on the concept of "communicative organization" affect how to plan for the organization's communication? Does the term "communicative organization" differ from other "organizational labels"? Which professions benefit from the very concept of "communicative organization"? Theories: The study is primarily part of the communication theory field of research and focuses more specifically on the concepts of "communicative organization" (Heide et al, 2019). The theoretical framework of the study consists of Heide's seven steps for a communicative organization as well as research on organizational definitions and profession research with a focus on communicators. These theories support this study's results and analysis by illustrating how a concept affects how the interviewed communication managers name, structure, package and work with their organizations' communications. Method: For this study, an operationalization schedule based on the purpose and questions of the study linked to the theoretical framework for the concept of "communicative organization", organizational theory and professional research has been set up. Since then, individual qualitative semi-structured interviews with communication managers at eight Swedish municipalities have been conducted. Since then, individual qualitative semi-structured interviews with communication managers at eight Swedish municipalities have been conducted. After conducting interviews, collected data has been transcribed and processed by coding in the analysis program NVivo. There, different themes have emerged and from this analysis and discussion and conclusion have been developed. Conclusion: None of the communications managers surveyed in the eight municipalities claim to have introduced or have plans to introduce “the communicative organization” to the letter as described in the research (Heide et al, 2019). That is, none of the municipalities interviewed had any kind of governing document or plan for all seven parts that the final report "The communicative organization" sets up for being a communicative organization. However, several of the municipalities surveyed say they are working with the research material as a basis for further developing the municipality's communication and all say that this is important and that they want to be a communicative organization.

Changing media, changing cultural values - Chinese young adults' micro-blog usage and cultural values

Wang, Yajiao 01 January 2013 (has links)
This study investigated the relationship between Chinese young adults' usage of micro-blog and their cultural values. Data was collected from a group-administered survey, which was constituted by 484 students aged from 17 to 30 in variety majors in five colleges in Beijing. Results answered two research questions, indicating that there is a strong relationship between traditional cultural values' changes in Chinese young adults and micro-blog usage. The results also indicated that the more Chinese young adults engaged in micro-blog usage, the more likely they would show distinctive features in both Eastern and Western cultural values. In other words, highly active Chinese micro-blog users have crossed the Eastern and Western cultural boundaries and are developing bicultural identity due to globalization in media environment.
