A critical analysis of high staff turnover case study : an insurance company's Personal Financial Advisers (PFA) / Mmantepa Florah Matsei

Matsei, Mmantepa Florah January 2004 (has links)
The aim of this research was to investigate staff turnover in the Mabopane area serviced by a well-established insurance company. This area is comprised of three different offices; Brits, Kudube and Mabopane. The offices are of the insurance company in the Mabopane area and over the years they have experienced high staff turnover. This research examined factors that contribute to the problem of high staff turnover. The primary instrument used to acquire information for this study was a questionnaire. This questionnaire has sections that require information about demographics, staff turnover factors, perspectives of respondents and a section for yes or no answering. Copies of the questionnaire were distributed to 60 participants who were currently employed, newly employed, those who worked outside the Mabopane area and others who no longer worked in the Insurance Company's offices. Through this method a lot of data was acquired and it helped give a clearer picture. The findings were that high staff turnover generally occurred between managers and financial advisers. Managers handled staff turnover and the high staff turnover mainly occurred after 1994. The employees agree that those who are behind with their workload are not willing to work over weekends. Since there are hardworking personal financial advisers (PFAs) among the employees according to the findings, the company should remedy the situation by concentrating on hiring those who are willing to work overtime, and are not overwhelmed by their job. / (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2004

An enquiry into the competition structure in the South African newspaper industry / André Coertzen.

Coertzen, André Bernard January 2010 (has links)
The South African newspaper industry has not changed much over the past fifteen years since democracy. Although the government has with very good intentions declared that the media, and especially the print media, should be accessible to all the people of the country, it has not materialised and most of the media is still focused on one or the other group of the population only. The government also involved the big media companies, when they implemented the Media, Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), in an attempt to try to communicate with all the people of the country, especially people in the rural areas, via print media and community radio. This meant that the big role players, together with government, contributed financially to a fund, from which the grassroots newspapers and community radio stations would be funded and developed. It was a good idea that has since lost most of the initial mission and vision through bad management, but mostly because the MDDA became a politicised agency. The future of the independent media is still in the balance because of other factors in the market. These factors include the total control that the bigger media companies have over the associations, forums, printing and other bodies that control or has an input in the running of the media in South Africa. The study that was undertaken had the primary objective of establishing an understanding of the newspaper industry in South Africa, by analysing and identifying the type of industry market structure it has taken on. The study also has the secondary objectives to identify the role players in the South African newspaper industry and the influence and control they have,in the market. The survey also aims to identify some problems and challenges facing the independent newspaper industry in South Africa and to provide recommendations on how to improve the problems that the independently owned newspapers face in the market. A study of this kind has never been done in South Africa and it therefore made it imperative, that most of the information that was used was obtained via self initiated questionnaires, interviews and investigations. A literature study was done to give the necessary background on market structures and their different characteristics in analysing the South African media industry. An analysis study was done using the internet, journals, articles and other material that were available, to obtain the necessary information regarding the current structures and role players in the South African newspaper industry. This study will show that nothing much has changed in the media structures in South Africa over the past fifteen years. This study can also be used by people to do further investigation into certain areas of the media. / Thesis (M.B.A.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2010.

Energetikos įmonių licencijavimo sistema / Licenzing system of energy companies

Žilėnas, Kęstutis 21 June 2005 (has links)
Licensing of energy companies enables to implement state policy in strategical energy sector, where competition does not exist. Licenses are one of the most important instruments used by the independent energy regulator. This instrument not only allows perform the function of regulation under the licensed company’s activities in more efficient way and ensure the established level of service quality, but also ensures effective control over the different markets in energy sector. Licensing and regulation of energy companies is one of the functions established by the Law on Energy and separate laws for the different energy sectors and delegated to the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy (Commission). Licensing of energy companies started a few years ago in Lithuania. Shortly after the practical experience of the Commission revealed that inconcistency of some regulations which where in force, caused a possibility to interpret the same requirements of the legal acts in different ways. This circumstance did not allow the Commission to solve the rising problems quickly and objectively and to ensure proper and effective supervision of the already licensed companies. In addition, analysis of the requirements of the EU legal acts and of other countries experience disclosed that the licensing system which prevailes in Lithuania partially contradicts the competition principles established by the EU and diminishes the possibility of competition in the energy sector in spite...
