Design of an Armrest for Office Chairs : A Conceptual Development Study / Utformning av ett armstöd för kontorsstolar : En konceptuell utvecklingsstudie

Persson, Alexandra January 2023 (has links)
Office chairs are vital in various work environments, providing comfort during long hours ofwork. Poor ergonomic design can result in musculoskeletal issues, especially due to prolongedsitting. Therefore, the design and construction of office chairs must prioritize ergonomics toaddress these concerns. The project was conducted in collaboration with Malmstolen, a company specializing inergonomic seating solutions. The objective was to design an armrest for Malmstolen's officechairs, emphasizing functions, aesthetics, and ergonomics. The design process followed was the Bootcamp Bootleg process in the project. The processbegan with understanding the product, the user, and the market, followed by drawingconclusions and defining the problem. This was done to explore solutions and generate ideasfor a final concept, which would be presented through renderings and prototypes. The selectedmethods for the project laid the foundation for research and understanding the outcome.

Lindell, Filip, Persson, Albin January 2022 (has links)
Product platforms holds great potential for cost effectiveness since several components are reused in different product variations. This bachelor thesis evaluates the implementation of a product platform of simple geometric products by applying the two different product development theories Design Thinking and Product Platform Concept Exploration Method(PPCEM). Design Thinking is a well-used theory which is mainly applied for development ofindividual products with the user in focus, while PPCEM is used for building large-scale and complex product platforms. In collaboration with Seldén Mast AB the possibility of creating a product platform for their product was investigated. It was accomplished by first developing the platform through Design Thinking and then theoretically recreating it through PPCEM. The difference in performance between the two theories was then analyzed. The results showed that none of the methods are individually adapted for the development of modularity for smaller products and volumes. Great importance was attached to being able to identify and define the essential correlations between the reusable components that constitute the modularity, which was most effectively achieved by combining the two theories. The study is structured by a thoroughgoing implementation of Design Thinking where several methods and models are used to support the structure of the concept for the platform. The re-creation is then based on PPCEM, where the theories methods are used as a basis for defining the conditions and foundation of the product platform. The purpose of this report is to compare the implementation of the various theories and analyze its suitability for designing a product platform for simple geometric articles.

Induction powered percolator

omerovic, Semir January 2022 (has links)
This project was a collaboration with C3 Scandinavian Lifestyle to create an induction percolator. Certain points had to be considered and explored. How can the copper coil be used in the percolator, and how can the new technology be turned off at the specified temperature? The report will begin with a theoretical foundation. This will include the type of study contained in this report. Every step made during the project will be explained in the procedure. The approach and implementation section will discuss how the work was done, as well as what methods were employed to get the outcomes. Last but not least, it concludes with conclusions and debate.

Improved Sailboat Design Process and Tools Using Systems Engineering Approach

Zanella, Matthew Robert 20 May 2020 (has links)
This research provides a detailed and systematic update of the traditional sailboat design process, with specific attention being paid to the tools used for evaluation purposes, and in doing so creates an improved and optimized design process for sailboats. More specifically, this report seeks to modify a systems-engineering approach to the ship design process, in order to properly incorporate modern sailboat evaluation techniques as well as elements of traditional sailboat design while providing analysis of a case study from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's ocean vehicle design class. In considering all intricacies of sailboat design and with applications and gradual improvement in quality of design through the use of multi-objective optimization methods, a new sailboat design process evolves, which initially considers a wide variety of design options and alternatives. Specific attention is paid in this process to the evolution of the ordering and analysis of each segment of the subprocesses, reducing design risk through the use of industry standard assessment procedures and ensuring consistent interaction with the customer. In doing so, an improved and effective design process is established, to be used by future sailboat design teams at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. / Master of Science / Boats and marine vehicles of different types have long been a mainstay in the growth and development of this country's military, economic and transportation infrastructure. Whether being used for fishing purposes in the Pacific Northwest or moving oil and gas to different cities along the eastern seaboard, marine transportation plays a critical role in day to day life. Long before the invention of gasoline powered engines, most boats were powered by wind which was harnessed by the use of sails. In the 1800's sailboats were used extensively for fishing, delivering mail and a number of other important activities. Nowadays, the use of sailboats is more geared towards recreational endeavors including racing or simply cruising local waterways. It is the responsibility of the sailboat designer to deliver options and products commensurate with the prospective owner's preferences. As such, it is important for the designer to develop a process or system which incorporates useful tools which can successfully evaluate design alternatives. In doing so, useful information will be produced by which the owner and designer can collaboratively make decisions. Unlike a military or commercial ship, the owner of a sailboat is most likely the main operator and shares a personal connection with the boat. This study modifies a systems-engineering approach to the ship design process, in order to properly incorporate modern sailboat evaluation techniques as well as elements of traditional sailboat design. In doing so, the operation provides a process and tool benchmark for future sailboat design teams at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Concept development of a space-efficient aid for working remotely / Konceptutveckling av ett platsbesparande hjälpmedel vid arbete på distans

Fahlborg, Ida January 2022 (has links)
The way office work has been conducted has been reflected upon the society and historical moments. Due to the pandemic working from home has been applied on a large scale for the first time in history and some changes will certainly stay.  This project aimed to investigate and develop a product that could aid a better work environment while working from home. Therefore, a certain product was not defined beforehand. The goal was to explore product solutions that solved issues that users were facing. Since the aim was to design a product that was guided by the research, the final result did not only cover the field of working from home but also working from anywhere. The result did also cover a more sustainable solution by mainly using one material, and by being able to replace and repair parts. The main methods used in this thesis were Double Diamond, Design Thinking, and a Human-centered approach. The findings of the different methods and tools used in the project laid a foundation and guided the final result and outcome of the project.  The project was conducted together with Yellon, a Brand Experience – firm, as supervisor.
