Efficiency and social capital in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises: the case of Ethiopia

Worku, Eshetu Bekele January 2008 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This study extends the existing literature on how social networks enhance the performance and sustainability of small enterprises. More specifically, the study isolates and investigates the mechanisms through which social capital helps with the growth and survival of MSMEs. The evidence presented in this study strongly suggests that an indigenous social network widely practiced in Ethiopia, the "iqqub", contributes significantly to the start-up, survival and development of urban MSMEs. / South Africa

Modélisation de la contamination nitrique de la nappe des calcaires de Champigny : Application à la protection des captages prioritaires de la fosse de Melun et de la basse vallée de l'Yerres / Modelling of nitrogenous contamination in Champigny's limestone aquifer : Application to protection of priority well-fields in “Melun depression” and in the lower Yerres valley

Bellier, Sandra 08 November 2013 (has links)
This thesis focuses on modelling of the nitrogenous contamination in Champigny's limestone aquifer. This groundwater is a strategic resource for Ile-de-France drinking water supply where several well-fields have been identified as a priority. The coupling of an agronomic model (STICS) and a hydrogeological model (MODCOU) enables to simulate the transfer of nitrates through the hydrosystem resulting from agricultural practices. The implementation of MODCOU on the study area has required improvement of the software for better representing distinctive features of the hydrosystem. The application of this model from 1971 to 2011 shows the importance of exchanges between rivers and aquifers in order to capture aquifer functioning and particularly the behaviour of the well field's water supply basins identified in previous studies. To integrate these exchanges in the modelling of nitrogenous contamination, a module assessing concentrations in rivers has been developed for each catchment and enables to reproduce the evolution of contamination from the past to the present and subsequently realize forward-looking scenarios. The development of a specific methodology enabled to identify the most contributory areas for well-field supply. Results show that these areas are located essentially along streams and represent a little less than half of the area of the well field's water supply basins. The linking between the main recharge area and the transfer velocity enables to determine the most relevant priority action areas on which protective measures could be more specifically applied.

Statutární a ekonomická transformace České filharmonie / Statutory and economic transformation of the Czech philharmonic orchestra

Doubětová, Martina January 2011 (has links)
The target of the study was an analysis of the current legal environment of the state contributory culture organizations in the Czech Republic and the options for their transformation into non-profit non-governmental organizations. This was demonstrated on the case of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, a contributory organization. Apart form the analysis of the documents, mainly analysis of semi-structured expert interviews, inner observations and informal expert interviews were applied in the qualitative research. These methods were the tool for a conclusion whether the current legal form of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra is appropriate or whether there is a more suitable alternative in the current Czech legal environment. The result of the research is its practical application demonstrated on a model transformation of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra into a non- profit organization (a specific type of a Czech non-profit non-governmental organization serving the public interest and/or common good), according to the Act on non-profit non- governmental organizations in its amended version.

Factors contributing to the foster care backlog : service providers’ perspectives and suggestions

Ngwenya, P. M. (Phindile M.) 01 1900 (has links)
The backlog in foster care applications has been an issue in the Department of Health and Social Development, Johannesburg office, for the last number of years, resulting in foster care placement applications accumulating and families’ quality of life being affected and compromised. The service providers are inundated with high caseloads. Foster care applications could take up to a year or longer before they are processed and finalised at the Children’s Court. The aim of the study was to explore and describe the factors contributing to the foster care backlog from the service providers’ perspective and to provide suggestions to address this continuing backlog. The researcher employed a qualitative research approach and an explorative, descriptive and contextual research design. Factors such as high caseloads, lack of resources and lack of support and training from management were identified as contributing to the backlog. Recommendations made are the immediate filling of vacant posts, induction of new social workers, provision of adequate resources and infrastructure as well as the division of foster care services. / Social Work / M.A. (Mental Health)

Srovnávací ekonomická analýza různých typů péče o seniory v ČR / Comparative economic analysis of different types of care for the elderly in the Czech Republic

Sabaková, Jana January 2010 (has links)
This thesis deals with the problems of seniors. Currently in the Czech Republic, but everywhere in the developed countries, a trend of aging and extending the retirement age is taking a shape. For these reasons the problems of the elderly is very actual. Older people sre becoming endangered and can get into a difficult social and financial situation. The aim of this study is to determine what the current possibilities are for senior accommodation service providers, than to analyze current homes for the elderly and to compare the homes for the elderly according to different lenders. The theoretical part presents the contemporary social policy, the current trends, providing of the social services and financing of the homes for the elderly as a social service. It also examines the origins of social policy and the need for social assistance. Practical chapters analyze and compare different homes for the elderly. It focuses on contributory organizations, charitable organizations and limited liability companies, comparing them and trying to figure out which form of the provision is most effective and what are the conditions of homes for the elderly. In conclusion, the work seeks to introduce alternative financing of social services in the form of homes for the elderly.
